My boyfriend swore that the best mami in town can be found in Quiapo. So while we were there on business, we managed to sneak in a couple of minutes for lunch just so I could try it for myself. The Mamonluk branch on this side of town looks like the shadiest thing EVER. It looks so old you'd want to give the floors a good scrubbing and call the exterminator. But I was adamant on trying the mami and the super jumbo siopao, I just sucked it up. The siopao arrived at our table and it was almost as big as my face. Filled with their special bola bola recipe and red egg. This siopao is in the running as one of the best I've ever had. Then the mami finally arrived. Warm and full of the yummy kind of fat you'd expect from old school mami houses, my boyfrien wasn't kidding when he said it was the best. Perfectly fatty and meaty, the beef mami was something else. It's as if every ingredient felt free to let its flavors run into the broth you hardly need condiments. It was one of the best meals I've had in a while and save for its sketchy location, it's really hands down the best mami and siopao in town. read more
