We got the veggie combo. So flavorful without being too salty or oily. 10/10 will come back. Even my picky toddler loved the red lentils.

I judge an Ethiopian restaurant by their berbere. I make my own. I am disappointed in this one. My…read morestandard is Jarra's, Portland's first Ethiopian restaurant to my knowledge. Lalibela used a sour paprika, and the other spices such as ginger and cinnamon are not perceptible. In my Ethiopian restaurant experience, I have never had a sour berbere before. The derek tips were very, very dry, toward jerky. With a dry-spiced dish, you have to get the meat cooked to a moist tender state, almost braised, then combine it with the spices and oil at the last moment. More rosemary would be welcome. The Lalibela Special I ordered lists salad, but it was absent in my order. It's easy enough to make salad at home. The injera was fine. The collards were quite tasty, even sweet, so +1 for that. I woud agree with the other reviewer that incense is never appropriate in a restaurant. Much of taste is smell, and strong non-menu-related smells work against the food experience. Incense entered the air while I was waiting for my order. You never know if another party is going to request coffee with it while you are there, so prepare your senses. I understand that is traditional in Ethiopia around roasting coffee in restaurants. Maybe they need an outdoor patio or a separate room for it? The staff was nice and my take away order was fast. I think this completes my Portland collection, other cities beckon! https://www.yelp.com/collection/S6aAlFKE7m1h14Lmf1_EDw/Ethiopian-Food-Yum

It was piping hot and, well seasoned. I find eating with my hands quite satisfying when it's necessary. Service~Our waiter was very nice, attentive and, a straight shooter (we like that). Asking questions, talking, laughing, and joking was pretty pleasant. I wanted to substitute the green beans but, he advised me that it really helped balance the meal. My man loves greens beans but, he was willing to change it if I didn't like it once it came to the table. Ambiance~Open only Wed~Sun 5-8:00 it's located on a busy/residential street. It has very limited parking in front and, in general. You are going to have hit a few blocks (1-4 hr) because, it's a lot of 30 min parking signs on this particular street. It upstairs on the second floor of the red building. It's a very spacious, clean, and restrooms to the right of you! I would highly recommend this spot for date, family, or a chill night out (lighting is just right)!!!

A new go-to spot for Ethiopian cuisine!…read more Our friends brought us out here and it was sweet that the staff remembered them. He was very friendly and charismatic, joking like old friends from the get-go. He provided several recommendations for our group of five. The mixed sambusas were incredible. One friend remarked the lentil one didn't taste vegetarian (which is huge for him). Perfectly crispy with the right amount of spice. We ordered 2 veggie combos, 1 beef combo, a chicken special, and a lamb. It arrived on this giant plate to share. After making sure we all knew how to eat, we dug in! I've had injera before where it was too sour but this was perfect and the subtlest of flavours. The chickpea was my favourite! The salad in the middle was also a perfect cleanser.
