I had the misfortune to visit, to celebrate the 34th Birthday of a family member, after serving our…read moredrinks, the 34 yr old was "challenged" to prove she was over 21, as she couldn't we were rightly told she could not consume the drink she had purchased, we sat as a group of 8 at a table waiting for the rest of our party, NO ONE at the table had a drink in their hand as we were approached yet again by the staff member and told again in a very rude and abrupt manner that the drink was not to be touched. The 34 yr old then decided to return home for her passport, on her return as she held her passport in her hand, she took a drink, and was immediately approached by the Manager/Landlord and told that we were not welcome and to leave the pub immediately, I found the attitude of the Manager to be hostile, and bombastic, When asked who we would write to to complain we were advised that the person we were speaking to was the owner and that communication should go to him. and he would throw it in the bin! words were passed, and we then left. Sadly another customer actually collapsed in another room and required Emergency treatment and hospitalisation, a customer advised that the coat the Man had brought with him had gone missing, this was met with a stone cold denial that this had happened by the Manager. Overall I would advise avoiding this place at your own peril, I have since discussed this incident with local friends and neighbours who have spoken quite openly of the erratic manner and attitude of the people in Charge.

We decided to go with the large one so we could have a bigger selection of meats, and it was all succulent. The chicken was absolutely wonderful, as were the beef and pork. The sides of cheesy cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, mashed potatoes and such were spot on. And the Yorkshire pudding, stuffing ball and gravy were so yummy. Excellent friendly service here too! I'd love to come back for a Sunday roast!

Wonderful experience!…read more Just flew in to Manc from Chicago and was craving a good carvery. The Sheldon Arms was wonderful! Staff is almost always friendly when they hear my accent (American) so I can't tell if service was great because of my accent or because it was just that good. I was in a party of 4. I ordered a cider which came quickly and chilled. Others ordered juice and water. A child in the group had a fun little meal ordered and a juice. The 3 adults went up for the carvery. Although there weren't many veg options, I was pleasantly surprised with the offerings. Yorkshire pudding is what I crave most in the States and this one was lovely. Had my first gammon here, too! Yummy! I am partial to cranberry and although there wasn't a heaping pile of it, there was enough available for my liking. The child ordered a personal pizza and that suited him. Didn't order pudding but should have! Another table ordered some and it looked wonderful! Next time!!!
