I have used this accountant to handle my mother's taxes for a number of years. At first, he was…read morevery good (returned calls, handled her tax prep. professionally etc.) Not so much since my mom died in Dec. 2022. Per the estate's requirements, a final tax return needs to be filed. After her death, he ghosted not only me, but my mother's estate attorney. No returned calls, response to emails etc. At my attorney's recommendation, I sought out the assistance of another attorney. Since he had done her taxes for many years, I asked him if he wanted to prepare her final return (Oct. 23). He said yes. After receiving all the required tax documents in February '24, I mailed them to him, followed by a confirming email. Having no response, I called and left a message on April 4th, asking if an extension would be needed. No response. Followed up with an email the following day; no response. Finally, on Sat late afternoon of April 6th, he emailed me stating he would not be doing her taxes (he was going to retire, and he emailed MY personal accountant SOME of her tax info). HUH? I didn't authorize that, especially given there was NO discussion with me nor my accountant. Now I have to resurrect her financials and either have an extension and/or have another tax professional do them five days before they are due. TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE AND UNPROFESSIONAL.
