Ultimately my experience with MI HOMES fell short of expectations. Overpriced for the final build quality, attention to detail and management team deficient on business and client acumen. Poor customer service all around. The sales team is fake. They do not back their warranties, they refuse to handle defects and issues with the house correctly. They talk down to you and insult you for having an inspection completed and believing the inspector. They give you the run around when they are confronted about their incompetence and are full of excuses. Rusted and corroded furnace cabinet in a new build house where no one has moved in yet. Builders report furnace is "new" and refuse to replace. Customer service is total crap, not easy to work with, and insulted the buyer and their family. This house is the 3rd house within 8 houses of new builds that have major defects. Items noted in the inspection report seem to be from poor quality and installation procedures. Many errors with cabinets, windows, plumbing, hvac, and cosmetic items. MI and builders were approached regarding and refuse to handle appropriately, do not provide adequate and reliable paperwork, and do not follow through with compliance. Horrible customer service. Their one year warranty means nothing. Agree with previous writers who have said that attitude changes after the 30 day inspection. No one came to do the 60-day or 90-day repairs and now at 1 year- when warranty is about to end, they want nothing to do with you, hoping you will forget about the 1 year anniversary. read more

I built a home with MI Homes, and unfortunately, I cannot recommend them to anyone. From the beginning, their sales team made impressive promises--many of which turned out to be misleading or simply untrue. Once construction began, the experience quickly deteriorated. The construction managers were polite and responsive--until I signed the 30-day inspection report. After that, their attitude shifted dramatically. Any issues I raised were met with a dismissive "not our problem." I strongly urge future homeowners: DO NOT SIGN THE 30-day inspection report. You have NO legal obligation to do so, and signing that document only gives MI Homes a legal out, allowing them to limit their support and accountability. IT DOES NNOTHING FOR YOU!!!! They may assure you that unresolved issues will be addressed in the 60-day report, but that's a promise I regret believing. One year later, I'm stuck with a failing concrete driveway--cracking and deteriorating--and facing a potential $20,000 replacement cost. This experience has been deeply frustrating and expensive. If you're considering building with MI Homes, proceed with extreme caution and protect yourself at every step. Don't let their paperwork become your problem. read more

My father and I recently purchased two quick move in "paired villa" homes. We each paid cash and since we didn't go through the design process there were a lot of things we were never told. Our issues started when we originally put our down payments down and their system wouldn't recognize the 2nd because both homes are in both names. This meant one of the homes did not come off the market and anyone could have sold it from under us. Our sales agent took her sweet time fixing the issues. The process following purchase was not explained well, we were only told we had to close by May 31 and that was all. Then they contact me for a home walk through and tell me they are only available m-f 700-430. My father was out of the country at the time and I am typically at work from 730 to after 6 m-f. When I explained this to them they did nothing to work with me. I even told them I would meet at 5 to try and compromise. The response I got was "you can send someone you trust." No way! I am not sending "someone" who is not on the deed to the home to do my walkthrough. Instead of working with me they just stopped communicating. I had to have someone else go do the walk through which to me is completely unethical and if I have issues they didn't catch I have no leg to stand on because they wouldn't work with the cash buying homeowner to ensure things were completed appropriately. There were MANY issues during the walk through which were promised to be fixed and another wall through would have to occur before closing- another scheduling nightmare. They didn't fix several items and then told us some of them they refused to fix- such as the peeling paper and footprints all over the drywall in my garage. They said "they only rough finish and that is it." All we asked was for them to fix the peeling paper and throw a quick coat of primer or white paint up- nope. Our landscaping is not as promised in the design they sent- wont fix it. And we still have paint chips and carpet issues, on top of the fact that everything in the house is low-grade crap, you can feel the carpet tacks when you walk, horrible! If we had not been in a position where we had to move I would have walked away from the home. I can't believe a home builder will not work outside of most peoples working hours and requires them to take off work to do a walk through, I have never heard of such an issue. Not to mention, when driving through the neighborhood at 530-600 they guys that do the walk through are still there, sitting in their trucks or talking to each other. So if you are there, why couldn't you accommodate my extremely demanding work schedule????? If they were smart they would cater to the cash paying buyers who they don't have to worry about a home being foreclosed on and who obviously have the means to purchase additional homes. Instead they have created customers who will never purchase another M/I home, will never speak well of the or them as a company, and will readily tell anyone who will listen about the terrible experience we have had purchasing our homes. Do not buy a home from MI. DO NOT TRUST ANYTHING they say. They don't follow through on any promises or commitments! They will sound great before you close, then do absolutely nothing afterwards. Lots of promises & excuses but nothing ever gets done! read more
