The Chocolate Cottage is a bit of a Highfields institution. We sat out the front under a gorgeous thick trellis of vines. As it was a hot day, we were thankful for the cool shade. The cottage has tables in front, inside the actual building and out the back on a beautiful green lawn that overlooks the Lockyer Valley - though this has been partially obscured in recent years by the growth of a hedge! I cannot fathom why they don't trim it a few feet to reveal the fantastic aspect. We arrived about 12.15pm on a Sunday & the place was already hopping. I'd rung earlier to book a table but was told they don't take bookings- it's a 1st-come, 1st-served situation. We ordered at the counter, my dad happy to have a beer as it is licensed. Meals were out in under 20mins which I was impressed with considering the number of people dining. My father & I had panini ($18.50), both of which were pretty yummy and my mum & hubby both had the nachos ($22). All servings were generous but the nachos especially! I think though the prices were not on the cheap side, they were good value for a cafe lunch in the area. Coupled with good service and a lovely laid-back country atmosphere, we were very happy. Will be back!

Wonderful outdoor seating area, very friendly staff and tasty giant sandwiches. You may want to eat…read morethem with a fork and knife or just indulge with a napkin in hand because it's worth it. It's not just about the sweets here.
