I am writing this to warn future patients and help them mentally prepare in ways I was not. While I am satisfied with the physical results of my tummy tuck with Dr. Lyle Back, the pre-operative communication, patient dignity, and post-operative accountability fell severely short. There was a severe lack of transparency regarding operating room protocols. While generic paperwork given to me the day of surgery briefly mentioned a Foley catheter might be used, it was never discussed with me in person, and I was completely left in the dark about how extensive the surgical scrub boundaries would be on my body (I was exposed and scrubbed from nipple to mid thigh). Discovering these medical interventions post-surgery without warning caused me immense shock and a severe panic attack. Furthermore, I had my period on the day of surgery and was wearing surgical mesh underwear. No one told me these would be removed; I woke up in the recovery room completely exposed with no underwear or menstrual pad, leaving me deeply embarrassed and vulnerable.When I obtained my medical records and later confronted Dr. Back, his behavior shifted dramatically. Two weeks post-op, I explicitly asked him if I had a catheter, and he evasively told me I "may have had" one. As the primary surgeon who signs the operative reports, he absolutely knew the answer but chose to downplay my experience. When I asked him to update his pre-op paperwork so future women wouldn't experience this trauma, he fiercely disputed the need for systemic changes. He is an effective communicator when building rapport before surgery, but he completely lacks the emotional integrity and transparency required when a patient addresses a legitimate care flaw. This entire situation was completely avoidable; it would have taken less than five minutes of upfront communication to inform me of what would be done to my body. Instead, my autonomy was disregarded, leaving me feeling deeply distressed. While Dr. Back did a decent job on the physical procedure, the lack of informed consent and pre-op transparency completely overshadows the results. I have completed my immediate post-op visits and am leaving this practice to transition my care elsewhere. If you choose this practice, please be your own advocate and demand a full, written list of every operating room protocol beforehand, as it will not be voluntarily disclosed to you. Look elsewhere for a surgeon who actually respects your body, your dignity, and your boundaries. read more

After lots of research, I chose Dr. I like his way with people, I like his honesty about what is possible with what services. I like when he says that something won't work, too. He's funny and efficient. He explains every step and why he won't or will recommend. He takes copious notes. I highly recommend. The staff is lovely too! read more

Looks like he has harmed more folks on here than helped; he is more of a salesman than anything. I wanted to lessen sun discoloration; he told me to do microneedling. It did literally nothing $2000 later. I went back recently to inquire about another procedure. When I asked too many questions, he abruptly said he wasn't the Dr. for me and left the room. As others below said, he doesn't own up to mistakes or want anyone to question him. How arrogant. So glad I didn't go with him, and yes his office is a mill. read more

My review is based purely off of a consultation, as I do not plan to have any procedures done at this facility. I am very interested in the cosmetics field, and when I heard that this "juvilee" procedure was a new thing, I had to find out what it was. I mean, the before and after pictures were incredible. They would not tell me via phone, they only offered to send me an information packet with more before and after photos. Then, they called me a couple times over the next few weeks to try to get me in. I obliged, both to settle my curiosity and to stop receiving their phone calls. This procedure is just a less invasive face lift, done under a local anesthesia instead of a general anesthesia. This will have less chance of complications and less down time. They told me I was not a candidate (I knew this) but if I did want my jaw line tightened, it would run me about $3500. The office was nice and clean, but very crowded. It feels as though they are just trying to see as many people as they can. I did receive a phone call after my consultation, but now I've blocked their number. read more

Did breast augmentation and lift a year ago and it's HORRIBLE. I cry every day and now I'm so depressed. He left me with very bad scarring and left the stitches too long. And one of the nurses tried to take out the stitches and couldn't. So Dr. Back came in and removed the stitches and it tore open. And says it's normal. Never try to fix it. The scars are horrendous.. Do not go to Lyle Back! I had rhinoplasty in January of 2005, it was an easy and slight change. I was coming out of surgery and I couldn't feel my arms, him and the anesthesiologist were arguing about my arms being tucked under me too tight. It took awhile before I had feelings in my arms, it was scary. After the bandages were removed, I was very upset as the results were not what we discussed and my nose was markedly worse that before. I now have a deviated septum and a big line on my right side of my nose that I never had before. Stay away from this doctor at all cost. read more

I had a full mommy makeover with Dr. Back. I lost over 100lbs and I am a marathoner and an Ironman. I tried every way possible to tighten my stomach skin and just about gave up on my floppy boobs. Dr. Back did a face/neck lift on me 11 months ago. He ruined me. I have horrible scars in front and back of my ears as well as under my chin. Rear his website -it says the incisions are hidden in the folds. NOT! I went to another surgeon for a consult regarding scar revision and was told I need to wait longer. This has been the worst year of my life. He was initially so complimentary, pleasant, and acted like my best friend and advocate. I was promised the world, he took my money and then scared me for life. He does not own up to his mistakes. I am writing this review to warn anyone who is considering going under the knife of Dr. Back. I hope you don't have to deal with what I dealt with. I had a breast augmentation about a year and 5 months ago. Immediately after my surgery I noticed a double bubble (where the implant falls below the breast and droops, giving the effect of one bubble placed on top of another). After doing some research on my own (and about 8 months after my surgery) -- I decided to go back to Dr. Back and see what was happening. He said there was nothing wrong and seemed offended that I would criticize his work. For me, visibly see there was something wrong. So, I went to 2 other doctors for a 2nd & 3rd option & they both agreed without question that what happened to me was a true double bubble caused by the way the implant was placed during surgery. I went back to Dr. Back to discuss & he finally admitted it was a double bubble. He claimed that I had gained weight -- which was not the case (and I'm not sure why that was part of the conversation as that wouldn't cause a double bubble). He also suggested that I could not afford a corrective surgery. He also wanted to charge me to fix his mistake on top of what I paid for the original augmentations. A total of more than $13,000.00 to fix his error. Truthfully, I would never get back under the knife with him & I wish I never did in the first place. read more

I had a full abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) done by Dr. Back in 2007 after having two very large babies. My stomach skin was very stretched out and full of stretch marks. The result is really good - my stomach is still flat 10 years later and the scar is very light and flat. My belly button looks very real and I've gotten many compliments on it as belly buttons are hard to replicate. Dr. Back and his staff were very professional. I would recommend his work based on my experience. Expensive, but considering what you're entrusting him with, it's worth the high price tag. read more

I never thought of having any plastic surgery before and thought I could trust Dr. Back, but to my disappointment after the surgery when there was a problem he did not even see me until a week later and then said there was nothing he could do to rectify the issue as he was so busy and booked for 2 months. He's not there just to do a 'procedure', he is there to help you. On a personal note - he saved my life! My family and I have had a few procedures done by Dr. Back (not disclosing what) and I have been meaning to write a review for some time now. Every time we have been to see him it has been a pleasure. Honesty and Integrity Dr. Back has always been up front and honest with us about what we have wanted done. He explains every option and I can tell you that he has always suggested the best option even when it was not the option that would yield the most money for him. I always feel he has our best interest at heart and it's not about the all mighty dollar. It's about you and what you want. Demeanor Dr. Back is a light hearted funny guy who really knows his stuff. He is confident and professional and is always fun to talk to. When it comes down to business, he is very serious and he understands that you are making life changing decisions. He has a unique way of putting you at ease, making sure you make well informed decisions and then moves forward. He is one of the very few doctors that can make me feel at ease just before a procedure and when it's done he is there when you wake up to make sure you want for nothing. His proof is his work. He is amazing. Office and Facilities His office is beautiful with the nicest décor to the latest equipment. His staff is friendly and always willing to answer my questions. If they can't answer something for you they will make sure Dr. Back takes some time to talk to you. When the procedure is beyond the scope of his office it's done in a hospital. I don't know what he says's to them there but when I say I'm Dr. Back's patient, I get the best treatment. Price Ok, he is not the cheapest but think about it. This is your body. He is doing work on you that will change you for the rest of your life. You know the saying you get what you pay for. Well, I may pay more than I would for the hacks down the road but the return on my dollar is well worth it. When I go in I want it done right the first time and Dr. Back delivers every time. I was on the fence about having this procedure for quite some time but I'm very glad I finally had the surgery and that I chose Dr. Back as my surgeon. I found Dr. Back to be very pleasant initially. I went to see him regarding "impressions" in my chin. Before I knew it, I had filler and botox for other areas (my fault as I agreed). The botox actually exasperated the lines that I went to see him for originally (his own admission) and I now needed additional filler to fix my original problem. The area that was filled is uneven (I gave swelling almost two weeks to resolve) and I called to ask to try and book an appt. to have some removed. I was told that he never had to remove product and therefore would not have the product available. I asked if they could order it and I was told it would not arrive on time. I hardly believe that they could not get a product in a matter of 4 days in order to help a very unhappy patient. $2100 later and I am quite angry at the lack of care and concern. Go find yourself another Dr. he's certainly nice enough for as long as you don't need him to fix something that he did. read more

One year I had plastic surgery - lipo to flanks, abdomen, inner thigh, hip area and buttocks (unconsented) performed by Dr. Lyle Back of Cherry Hill, NJ. Immediately I noticed irregularities - too much fat taken out on left side of body (flanks, butt and inner thigh) compared to right. Also, Dr. Back did something to my butt wherein he created a new/unnatural butt crease which caused my butt to drop and sag. This was never discussed with me nor did I consent to him doing this. I have talked to Dr. Back on several occasions about my concerns. He kept telling me that it could take a year to see the final result. I am not at all happy with the results. My body is completely uneven and my butt is not repairable without extensive scarring. I have sought the opinion of several other PS in South Jersey and Philadelphia, all of which note the defects and state that lipo can take care of the abdomen and flanks, however, my butt is deformed. They all stated he should not have touched my buttocks as this sagging and dropping was likely to happen. I never expected anything to happen to my butt as I did not consent to work being done on my butt. I have been trying to work with him to correct the problem areas - initially he said he would do the revision for no charge to me. Note the only paperwork I have states that for revisions, anesthesia and facility will be charged and dr's fees may or may not be charged. Then he had his office manager call me and tell me he now wants to charge me $4200 to fix his mistakes. I paid $7000 already and did not get the benefit of any good work. Not only was the liposuction disastrous, leaving me with a deformed buttocks which cannot be fixed, along with the need for additional lipo to my abs and flanks, but Dr. Back's treatment in the handling of my complaint was just plain egregious. Initially he verbally offered to fix all my problems at no to little cost. After our meeting he had his office manager call me back with a quote of over $4,200. He lied to me. He ruined my butt, the liposuction to the flanks, abdomen and inner thighs is noticeably uneven and I still have large purple scars from over a year ago! Don't let him treat you. read more

I love Lyle Back!!! I first went to Dr. Back for Botox and fillers and he was kind, gentle, honest and compassionate and definitely put me at ease. I wanted breast implants but Dr. Back advised I would need to have a breast lift first. Results were unbelievable. I waited 3 months and then got implants...again unbelievable. No one can believe they are implants. I then recently had liposuction and again results are amazing!!! There was minimal discomfort with all of these procedures. Dr. Back is the most caring doctor I have ever been to and is wonderful with his bedside manner and follow up. The staff is also great...very caring and pleasant. I am still going for Botox and recently had a facial and microdermabrasion by Donna...was the most relaxing experience of my life and my skin looks great. For those of you raving about Lyle Back, God Bless you for getting through your procedure untainted! I used Dr Back in 2001 for a B.A. He was very charming and gushing with a great bedside manner BEFORE my procedure. I preferred and wanted under the muscle. He told me he could tell " just by looking at me" that "he was 99.9% positive" I was a candidate for under the muscle vs over the muscle. That should have been a Red Flag. Anyway, I did agree to going with over the muscle if there was an unexpected result during surgery. I had surgery on a Thursday and was told to expect the most pain on the 2nd and 3rd day. I'm pretty pain tolerant and don't handle narcotics well so I was prepared and not worried. At about 2 a.m. Saturday morning I was having a " different type" of pain. After several hours of no sleep and complete misery I woke my best friend who was staying with me. This was now around 6:30 and the pain was getting increasingly worse! When she saw me she immediately asked if I had looked in the mirror and made reference to my chest. Obviously I was swollen, however when I took another look I could see my Right side was way more swollen all over my chest wall and side. I immediately called Dr. Back's Emergency Tel #. No Answer! I left a message and waited about a half hour. I called a few more times describing the pain, appearance of my chest and feeling like the implant was getting bigger and felt like it was ripping into my underarm! STILL NOTHING!! At this point I decided it was best for me to go to the Emergency Room. My bad. I was not informed prior to my surgery of which hospital he was affiliated with and I had failed to ask. So after several calls to area hospitals I found he was affiliated with JFK Cherry Hill. We were traveling on Kings Highway when I finally received a return call from Dr. lyle Back. This was now about 8:15 a.m. You would think he would have been empathetic, calming or even shown a sliver of " that great bedside manner" he had before cutting me open? NO. He began berating me with comments like, " I told you the worst would be the 2nd and 3rd day"! I asked if he even listened to my messages describing what I was seeing and feeling. When he kept shouting over me and minimizing what I was saying I finally shouted back with a few Choice Words. I told him the pain was excruciatingly worse and felt like a bowling ball was going to push out of my underarm! At this point he began to reassure me and became his alter ego, " Good mannered Back"! He discouraged me going to the ER at JFK because he had performed my surgery in His Surgical Suite at the office and all my records were there. I thought it made sense at the time. He told me he would meet me there at 9:30. At the office we waited in the parking lot ( his old office that he shared with his " no longer partner" the 1800 Building on Old Cuthbert Road. When Back showed up he appeared to be cowering. Once inside his office he led me to an " Exam Room". Just like the one pictured in his present office. Not a sterile Surgical Suite. My friend was with me and sat in a chair about 4 feet in front of me where I was instructed to disrobe. He then tilted the chair back. After examining me he advised he believed I had a Hematoma . He was not answering Any of my questions at this point and basically minimizing the situation. He then gave me a bunch of local anesthetic shots around the incision under my right breast. After a few minutes he cut open the sutures. He then grabbed onto my breast with both hands and began squeezing and manipulating something to the open incision. He then took a scalpel and used the handle to further manipulate and scoop out what he was after! My friend then said " What is that?" As he was removing chunks of what she said looked like pieces of Liver! He shooshed her immediately! Then I asked Dr Back, "Won't all this grabbing and squeezing and pushing of my breast cause Capsular Contracture? ( as my post op instructions were NOT to massage or manipulate in ANY Way!). He snapped, " Don't jump to conclusions", and " Not necessarily"! At the end of approximately 7-8 large chunks ranging from 2- almost 4" in diameter and length, he closed me up advising he believed he got it all. I was instructed to prepare for a 2nd surgery on Monday so no meds. I went back to the office on Monday and No One there was expecting me! I asked to see him at which time he said, "If it ain't broke don't fix it!", and " to heal and see the results later". After "Healing" I have a rock hard right breast full of scar tissue! No offer to correct! The Blood Clot was due to him NOT properly cutting off the blood supply when he cut the pocket for "under the muscle" and proceeded to reposition the implant Over The Muscle! So much for 99.9% sure of himself along with his atrocious actions following. I Should Have Sued His Balls Off! I Believe in Karma. read more

I first went to Dr. Back in June to talk to him about a breast reduction/lift. He explained everything and then asked what my questions were (he had already answered most of them!). He made me feel so comfortable and I immediately booked my surgery. My surgery was on August 17, 2016, and to say I was nervous is an understatement. I first saw him around 6:30am that morning and he was so excited for me!! He held my hands, looked in my eyes and told me I would be okay. I woke up hours later and felt tired. As the next 48 hours went on I got a bit of anxiety. He called me that night and I was okay. The next morning I wasn't feeling well, I called him earlyyy in the morning and he talked me through it. I was even so nervous that I asked to come in and just see him. He was never annoyed or bothered by me. As my mom and I sat there, he again held my hand for a good 5-10 mins telling me I was okay! And he was right!! I'm 2 weeks out of surgery, looking and feeling great! I know I can call him or his staff at any time and they know exactly who I am! I would HIGHLY recommend Dr. Back! read more
