Let me make it clear I was not looking to be represented for free. I needed some leniency. I had money down but, not a full retainer amount. I had been calling every phone number given to me for 2 days. All of these that advertise help with financial assistance or Pro Bono only handle uncontested divorces. A woman answered the phone. I spoke to her about my case in length. I explained in detail my financial situation. It is a complicated one as I was on the 2nd PFA, this time involving my child's life. The woman took down my information. She asked detailed questions. She assured me I had not found the right attorney. She stated I could relax over the weekend as someone from the office would call me back on Monday. On Monday around 2 PM I still had not received a call back. I realize offices are probably very busy on Mondays. I phoned in & was told by the woman who answered the phone she was just given my message & was ready to phone me. I again explained everything to her. She stated the best thing to do was to come in. I agreed that would be best. She proceeded to tell me just to come in and speak with her would be $100.00. I explained to her that I explained my financial situation when I called on Friday. She placed me on hold. She came back to the phone & stated by the notes Deborah received I would be looking at a $3500.00 retainer. She then wanted to schedule the $100.00 consultation. I stated why would I pay her $100.00 when after explaining my situation I would not be able to pay a $3500.00 retainer fee that day. Apparently this attorney just wants a paycheck because it doesn't matter to her of children are being abused. I ended the call with so my children will continue to be abused because he has money. Absolutely ridiculous & very unprofessional.
