    The banjolele I bought.
    Angela A.

I've been wanting to add a ukulele banjo to my collection for a while, and was happy to find one here. Patient and kind support--I sat and played several different instruments for quite a while. I found a Slingerland from the 1930s in decent shape. My go-to uke guy in Burlington--Nowa at Randolin--set her up for me nicely. (BTW once set up, she's staying in tune beautifully: it's a fable that banjoleles don't stay in tune. :} ) I'll certainly visit Luthier's again when next I'm in Easthampton, and I hope I get to hear some music. Feels like a great, relaxed environment to listen, eat, and have a drink or two.

Wow- what a great venue to see live music! We got there early and enjoyed dinner. They had these Tiger Stripe chicken tenders on special- they were so hot and so delicious! Burgers were great too. Lots of local beers on tap, and a full bar. I love that if you're still on the restaurant side when the live music starts they have a live feed of the show on a tv at the bar. The sound was great, it's a small space but still comfortable. Very inviting. Highly recommend checking it out.

    Belly dancing last weekend 1

What a great find! Luthiers is a music shop by day, selling and repairing instruments and offering lessons, and a bar by night featuring live entertainment on the weekends. Luthiers is located in downtown Easthampton. Parking may be a challenge at peak times like Friday and Saturday nights (like when I went in) ... but you will find some. They have a great selection of beers on tap. They have a full bar in the back and they have a bar serving beer by a stage where various local acts perform on the weekend. I was in for an acoustic set and then for belly dancers. Luthiers also offers food. I did not get a chance to check out the menu, however. We ordered some South West egg rolls and they were delicious. The service was exceptional. The crowd was chill. I even ran into one of my college classmates who I had not seen in years on my visit ... which was a real treat. In summary, 2 thumbs up for you Luthier's

I can't believe I moved to Easthampton without knowing about this place. I'm learning to play the banjo, and this place is as wonderful a resource as I could have asked for. This is no Guitar Center, and that's a huge compliment. Most of their stock seems to be consignment, and the variety is pretty interesting. There are a few Fender Strats and Squires, but there are also a lot of brands that I've never seen before. You probably won't recognize a great instrument here just by its looks or model name, but, given the expertise possessed by the people who work here, there are surely some treasures waiting to be found by someone patient enough to explore them. Electric and acoustic guitars, mandolins, pedal steels, banjos...there's a lot to see. And yet, the place doesn't really feel like a retail store. It's not packed solid with gear. Rather, it just feels like a big workspace belonging to the people who own and run it, very personal. And work is certainly being done here. I usually walk in to hear the sound of some kind of woodworking machinery emanating from the back of the store while someone else is at the front desk, tool in hand, working on a guitar or violin. Lessons sometimes take place in a small practice room in the back, or sometimes right in the center of the store. There's free coffee available and a few tables and chairs where you can have a seat. The first time I entered the store, I was looking for a banjo strap. They carried a new one that was a little overkill for my lightweight banjo, and it costs something like $25. However, they also figured out that they had a used mandolin strap that I could use on my banjo with some adjustments, and they sold that to me instead for $3. This is not a high-pressure sales place. The people who I've spoken with at the shop genuinely love the instruments and the music. I think they'd rather just quit the business than worry about squeezing every last dollar out of someone. Like I said, this is no Guitar Center. You might be able to find a cheaper instrument somewhere else. In fact, I'm sure you can, but you'll get what you pay for. I bought my first banjo pretty cheaply from a guitar shop in Worcester. It wasn't set up correctly, it was poorly built, and it fell apart in a year. For the same price at Luthiers Co-op, I could have bought a much nicer banjo (it's the one that Jane plays during our lessons) that is not only manufactured well but has been in the hands of people who know and care about it. As mentioned above, I've been taking old-time banjo lessons here. Jane, who teaches banjo, is an amazing person to know. She's been working with stringed instruments all her life, and she's an inexhaustible source of knowledge about my instrument and the music I'm learning to play. Because I'm an intermediate player, and because I don't have any well-defined goals, our hour lessons are more like conversations in which we talk about whatever songs or techniques I've been playing with. She seems comfortable offering me advice without forcing me to accept it. "As long as you're playing the music the way you want to hear it, that's good" is what she says. The lessons I've had so far have given me a lot of confidence to continue exploring the banjo. I don't feel boxed in by technique or style. Every week I leave excited to continue playing. My lessons are $45/hour, and I bought 5 up front for the price of 4. 1/2 hour lessons are $25 I think, but they might vary depending on the instrument/teacher. I've never had to bring an instrument in for repairs, but given my experience so far, I would absolutely trust them. Like I've said, they seem to really care about the instruments, so if there was something they couldn't take on they would say so. Aside from the services they offer, the coop also hosts several musical events every month. On wednesdays, the Pioneer Arts Center of Easthampton hosts an open mic here with an admission donation of $5. There's also a string band jam on the 3rd friday of each month. These and other events in the region are posted in the front window of the shop. Easthampton's artistic community is quiet compared to that of nearby Northampton, but it's also a lot more personal and close. I'm looking forward to becoming a part of it. This is quite a long review. There's a lot to say about this place, because it's not your typical instrument shop. Not by a long shot. I hope you will check them out.

    Sweet place.

My favorite bar. Cute, unique, great staff! Interesting open mics and events. I could look at the decor with the instruments all day.

Terrible selection of mandolins. Expensive! Lots of clutter and junk there. Not sure if they repair instruments or not, looks like a bar

Originally from Vermont, Berzins began looking for a good location to open a brewery after attending the Siebel Institute for Brewing in 2010. He settled on a former hay field in Easthampton at the base of Mount Tom. He chose Easthampton for the city's delicious, environmentally protected water. He was also enamored with the community's friendliness and sense of welfare. Berzins adheres to the Reinheitsgebot German purity law for the majority of his beers. Per the age-old law, the beer can only be produced with four ingredients: water, hops, malt, and yeast. At first, Fort Hill only brewed lagers. More recently they have ventured into hoppier territory with the addition of IPAs. My son and I recently visited Fort Hill Brewery while we were cycling the large network of bike trails in and around Northampton. The brewery is conveniently located right alongside the spur trail section of the Manhan Rail Trail. The location had seating available outside as well as inside and was quite packed when we arrived. The draught menu that day featured about 20 different beers of varying styles. Being the hop head that I am, I decided to order a sampler flight of five IPAs. It consisted of "G-Fresh" (Grapefruit IPA), "Disco Kid" (IPA), "Fresh Pick" (NEIPA), "Checkmate Chuck" (DIPA) and "Jigsaw Jazz" (DIPA). They were all pretty good, but "G-Fresh" and "Fresh Pick" were my two favorites. My son and I grabbed a table by the brewery's small stage and we listened to the blues sensations of Wildcat O'Halloran's band while I enjoyed my beer samples. We had a nice time at Fort Hill Brewery and I would definitely stop by again!

I had two beers, and both very tasty. The Pianist, is exactly what I'd usually gravitate towards a great sour, with a bit of a twist. I also had Corrupt Cranberry, this is not for everyone, but I enjoyed it. It's a seltzer beer, I've never heard of such a thing. It's very unique, a bit more watery then the average beer, but also very flavorful. The night I was here, there was live music. This is a great little brewery that I enjoyed checking out. I have to add, they charge $2.00 for beer sampling. I'm not sure how big the samples are, this might be a covid reason. This is also a dog friendly brewery.

How absolutely ridiculous to sit there and try to sow political division in our community. There are many different types of people who live here, and discrimination is never okay. Yesterday, there were several absolutely normal families, a gay couple, a trans person, and your regular bar-goers. Would it be okay for Amy's to turn those folks away because a Trump lover cried about it on Yelp? Grow up. Anyway, Amy's has some of the best boneless wings I've had in a long time- it's so rare to find ones that are not pre-frozen or just full of cartilage. Their French onion soup is always a winner, as well. I think the atmosphere is pretty cozy, and there's always a game on if you're into that sort of thing. Either way- Amy's is a great local, American, community restaurant that really reminds me of the kinds of restaurants I used to go to when I was a kid. We'll be back for sure!

The beer list is a rock solid curation of high-quality regional craft beers and the cocktail menu is quirky and fun. I'm not the sort of person who drinks martinis that taste like cookies but that's super fun for some people, and I appreciate the diversity of choices that appeal to a wide range of people and their particular moments in life. I had a cocktail made with grapefruit juice that actually tasted identifiably like fresh grapefruit juice. The service was kind, attentive, pleasant and professional. The ambience was casual and easy going, and the place was clean and welcoming. So it is regrettable that having just discovered this perfectly nice place I will never set foot in there again. They serve Trumpists wearing Trump-fawning t-shirts. If that bothers you, you should not eat here. We moved tables, still couldn't bring ourselves to eat, packed our uneaten food, tipped well, knocked back the remaining beer, left a hundred dollars lighter, and will never return.* People can and do refuse to serve fascists. This business choose to serve them. Spend your money as you wish. * Yes, that's pricey for lunch but that's on us. We went out to have fun. It was a hard week. The prices were reasonable. We had cocktails, beer, an appetizer and an entree. Frugal people who aren't quite as desperate for a little fun could get away spending less, on the other hand, you may have to eat it looking at this guy.
