Stopped into Lush and had a pleasant experience. Michael, the owner, was very knowledgeable and helpful. I picked up Sangria, from Spain, and it was incredible. My girlfriend and I were in Asbury Park on a beach day and we were bar hopping and decided to stay overnight. So we decided to grab a bottle of wine. We found Lush was close by but closed in 3 min so we high tailed it over there walking. As we got there it looked like they were about to close the doors but the young man let us in anyway. His name was Louis and he was very nice and helpful with not even a hint of annoyance of us coming so late. He helped us pick out a wine and we were on our way. Spent a lot of money there, good selection, good people except for Harry. His flippant, nasty attitude eventually got the best of me and I'll be shopping elsewhere. Says I call you back in five minutes, takes two hours. Never offers a discount code when we're spending hundreds of dollars a week, plus tips. Bottom line: Lush is a very polished well stocked spirits stop in Asbury Park. Best shop for beer, wine, and liquor in the area IMO. Special thumbs up to the selection in the cooler in the back, you can't beat it. Lush is a 5 star stop for me! The Deets: Lush is the closest thing we call a "bottle shop" in the Cookman Ave area. You'll find if you spend any time in Asbury Park that there's a significant number of venues/restaurants that are BYOs as far as alcohol is concerned. That's why Lush is a perfect fit here in AP along the Cookman Ave area, it works with local businesses in that way to provide a great place to get that BYO item...excellent location. Lush is a very nice, clean, well presented spirits shop offering beer, wine, and liquor. It has a variation of hooch to fit your every need, as well as glasses and other accessories. I think it is awesome that they work to match up local restaurants and food items from local venues to what they offer in the shop for that "perfect fit." Great feature! The best part to me is the cooler in the back with "ready to go" bottles chilled. They have some interesting and special types of beer/wine there, not your run of the mill beer cooler so there's something for everyone's particular taste and mood. I like to grab a cold one or two before heading over to the cigar lounge down the street to hang out, as it is like many places in Asbury Park BYO. On a random walk through downtown Asbury Park I came across this wonderful store and its affable owner, (with an accent I couldn't quite place.....english? irish? Jersey?), and was so pleased I walked away with two bottles of reasonably priced wine and a six pack of Magic Hat #9. Almost bought a bottle of tequila too. I gave this rating of 5 stars because I wanted to give a 6 pack of beer, sampler pack for a pre-Christmas Eve gift for everyone from my sisters to their boyfriends and my step dad, and myself. We all loved the winter beers. The Oatmeal was really the best one we had because it was a dark beer but it had a subtle bite to it. the six pack only cost me $9.99 and is a perfect fit My sister Lindsay and her boyfriend were very interested in both the New Castle, The Warmer by Sierra Nevada, and the Oatmeal. My personal favorite was really hard to select but I really enjoyed the Smutty Nose and Never Summer. My sister Jill and her boyfriend liked a lot of them but I think the Smutty Nose got them good with a little "extra hops action." I'm very proud to have selected this 6 pack not only as a local small business but as a gift that keeps on giving. My family said "I have great taste when it comes to getting beer recommendations." Support Small and Local Businesses! This place is a great! There are several BYOB restaurants in AP serving wonderful food, but sometimes we run out of wine or decide at the last minute on one of them and realize we don't have a bottle of wine. Lush is a boutique wine and spirits store in the 600 block of Cookman Ave. It's location is perfect to grab a bottle for dinner or when you don't want to hassle with the big stores. The wine selections are varied and there is something for everyone's taste and budget. The proprietor (Ian/Aidan?) is a pleasant Irishman and very helpful and knowledgeable. read more

Friend owns this - so I might be biased, but pop in for a bottle of wine, what do you have to lose? I love how spacious and undusty and uncramped this place is - you feel exhilarated and ready to partake in some grappa. Great liquor store in town. Came here since we were at the Korean taco place next door and wanted something to drink. They had wine tastings and happened to have a tasting for a Sancerre rosé. We tried it and bought a bottle. The service was great and I'd recommend coming for anyone in town! read more

Best wine shop in Asbury. Actually, it's the only wine shop in Asbury. Anyway lots of fun esoteric wines and microbrew. Even if there was a choice, I would pick this place. If you don't recognize any of the labels on the shelf, that's a good thing, just ask the staff, they're happy to help. read more

Great selection, fun atmosphere, nifty arrangements such as wines organized by cuisine. Also carries quality beers in the fridge: I found a four-pack of Dogfish Head Burton Baton, which is about as amazing as it gets. While heading to a party Memorial Day weekend in AP, I needed to grab a bottle of wine so I Googled "wine" while driving near Cookman and Lush came up. I was right there, so I went in. I loved the way the place was set up (by matching food, by activity, by local BYO restaurant). Plus they had a wall of cold beer and regular booze too. I was so impressed I stopped back in that weekend to stock up on some stuff. They gave me great recommendations and I couldn't believe how reasonable it was. I completely agree, just what Asbury needed. Also, given how much thought has gone into the inventory, you'd expect it to be expensive. Not true! With the new Wegman's liquor store and Spritis in Ocean Township, Lush is more than holding its own in terms of price. Even better is that you're not restricted to some bottom-of-the-barrel wine when looking to go cheap. I've tried 3 of their bottles under $9 and they're not just OK for the price point, but they're actually GOOD! I'm looking forward to trying my next bottle. And the next.... read more

For a small store, Lush has a wonderful selection. It has a great variety of quality microbrew beer and top quality wines and liquors, this store doesn't waste space with garbage. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and eager to help. I find the prices to be slightly higher for the top quality wines such as Caymus and Cakebread than they are in a larger store, but the convenience of not having to drive out of town to pick something up more than makes up for the marginal price difference. read more

Visiting BYOs have been less than positive with the need to visit the inferior (and overpriced for the wine quality) at liquor stores in Bradley,Spring Lake, etc. Lush has a nice selection and detailed description of each wine - and no Bud in the beer section! read more

Something is radically wrong with their credit card machine. Twice in July 2017 my cards from Citibank were rejected . Happened with the debit card and credit card. Both cards worked fine in other establishments the same day. Even worse, after I used the cards in Lush and they were rejected, this created a fraud alert and my cards were useless until I alerted Citibank. First time this happened on July 3 the clerk told me they were having a problem with cards from Citibank so why wasn't this problem addressed then? Same problem occurred on July 21. At that point I insisted the clerk call the company running their credit card machine and I stood there while he made the call. I will never use a credit card again in Lush and this will limit my spending there. I was stunned this problem still existed when I when I returned later in the month.
