Brand new pavement and straight shot into either end. Awesomely beautiful. Super nice FBO. Cross wind can be brutal sometimes.

This airport does have a balcony that you can step out onto to get some fresh air, but there's no smoking. But there are tables and chairs, so you can eat outside and watch the planes come in. The Charlottesville airport also has a nursing room, and a lounge (but I'm not sure who it's for), and lots of chairs with outlets. They have more outlets here than people, probably, so you'll find somewhere to plus your stuff into. It's an easy get-in-get-out airport.

Checking in my luggage was easy, as I had priority. There was a gentleman that helped move the lines along by helping passengers at the kiosk and printing tags. It was a quick walk through TSA PreCheck Touchless ID. And the ride in the movable walkway (people mover shuttle bus) was pretty cool. I had never seen anything like this at any airport - so unique! I enjoyed the ride and our shuttle bus wasn't full. I got to my gate easily and waited until it was time to board the plane. Overall, it was an easy airport to navigate. I did get to the airport early afternoon so I'm sure it was after the morning rush.

Sitting area was tidy and comfortable with power outlets around. There's even a vending machine if you want to get a candy bar or a drink for your flight, but remember that the rules on liquids still apply here. Eventually, the other passengers arrived and then the crew and the TSA and the local cops. My TSA screening went fine but my two fellow passengers (yep, only three people on this regional jet this morning) both had major challenges getting screened. Weird.

Wayside at Big Meadows was terrible barely edible. Black bean burger was undercooked with no flavor. Fries were cold and soggy. Mashed potatoes were gluey. Fried chicken was the only decent food. Pizza at the taproom was cheap frozen pizza with enough cheese for 3 pies, but so undercooked the cheese did not fully melt. The grocery store, and I used the term loosely, was worse than a 7-11. Having full sewer hookups at the site was a real luxury and definitely spoiled us. The resort provided bathhouses are older but clean. The back in spaces are deep and you'll have plenty of room. One of the highlights was the hiking. The trails are excellent, and the view from the top of the hill is absolutely worth the walk. The scenery and peaceful atmosphere made for a great camping experience. There are a couple of things to be aware of. First, Wi-Fi is limited. There is a location on the property where you can connect, but it isn't available throughout the campground. We relied on a personal hotspot, which worked from marginal to okay depending on the time and location. If you need a reliable internet connection for work or streaming, plan accordingly. Second, the catch-and-release pond was underwhelming. Casual anglers or families with kids may enjoy it, but serious fishermen will probably find it a waste of time. Neither of those issues was enough to take away from what was otherwise an excellent experience. The spacious sites, peaceful setting, great hiking, and full hookups made this one of our favorite camping trips. We'd gladly stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing campground in the Shenandoah Valley. Overall: 5/5 stars.

The kitchen utensils, cups, glasses, cookware and everything else, has not been replaced nor updated since 1984. You basically need to rent a uhaul and bring half of your kitchen, half of your linens, comforters, towels- just bring everything from home- DO NOT USE anything there. There are No lights on deck nor steps going down to lower deck; no lights on lower deck. They offer streaming services- but when you open Netflix, they have created a profile with your name,in their streaming apps, without permission and it is impossible to log out of their streaming services in order to log into yours. First, the positives: the location was beautiful and very accessible to hiking, wine tasting and several other great summer outdoor activities. The actual house is nice and very spacious. The negatives: the place was FILTHY. As a family, we decided to tolerate the filth so we wouldn't ruin our family vacation, but as the week went on, it became more and more annoying to accept how dirty it was. After our week-long stay, I contacted the owners and forwarded them a list of issues we found as well as photographs to document the condition of the house. We made it clear that we were not asking for any money back (although if we pushed the issue, I certainly think we would have been entitled to it). I also raised an issue with their ridiculous policy for the OCCUPANTS to wash and fold all of the linens before a noon departure on Sunday, which is totally unrealistic. This policy forces occupants to get up extra early on their last day of vacation to do something a paid employee should be doing. After the second attempt to contact the owner, the response she provided was that she forwarded my email to the cleaning lady. No apology. And No indication that she really plans to address it in the future. For this reason, I am giving it a one star rating. If she had sent back a different response, I would probably be giving it at least a two star rating. If cleanliness of the property is important to you, this place will not be satisfactory. List of issues: - Beds were unmade and the sheets were from the previous occupants (ewww) - I swept a large pile of dirt in one of the back bedrooms my grandmother was staying in - Mouse dropping in the back bedroom - Spider webs in closet - Overgrown lawn - Dirty stove, oven, toaster and refrigerator - Dirt, chips and crumbs in the couches - Hot tub smelled like urine and several jets were broken - Ashes in the fireplace - Mildewed towels in the linen closet (my Mom took all of the linens, washed, folded and put them away because previous renters put away wet towels, due to the ludicrous cleaning policy -- but made the entire closet really stink) - Dog hair on the linens and couches, even though the owner claimed her grandchildren are deathly allergic to pet hair - Remote controls did not operate - Playhouse (pictures on the website) was a mess and had a lot of dead bugs and spiderwebs - There was uneaten popcorn in the popcorn maker. My Dad spent at least 30 mins scrubbing it out before we could use it

Final update (for real): I did receive another return call from a manager this morning (after I…read morecalled) and I was able to answer it. We discussed the customer service aspect that this whole experience was lacking. The original issue was not the lack of a transparent policy, of which we had followed all rules, it was the automatic assumption that we had broken those rules based on limited evidence and without contacting the customer directly. Then the resulting customer service experience was a failure because instead of returning my phone call, I received another email that again was not informed by any discussion. I am glad the issue is resolved and hope that this situation will help promote a better experience for others in the future. Last update: Marriott did attempt to call me back yesterday but I was not available. I still have not spoken to a manager, nor explained anything from my perspective, but as a "gesture of goodwill" the charge was removed. Updated review: With no call from a manager and without them asking for additional details, I received another email that said that "our team is trained to distinguish between residual outdoor fire smells and odors associated with tobacco products inside the cabin" and the charges stand. I once again called to speak to a manager and one is not available. I am supposed to receive a call back "later." To be clear, this is not about the actual nominal charge, it is being charged when we do not smoke and are being accused of smoking cigarettes or other tobacco products inside the cabin when in fact it was fire smoke, without the benefit of asking for any details from the customer.

It was nice being dropped off and picked up. We did have issues with our card online, but when I called in to book, Nancy was helpful. She got us all situated and sent an email to confirm. We filled out waivers online which was a breeze. We watched a quick safety video, picked up our lifevest and were on our way. The water was the perfect temp, and it was clear. Tips: bring snacks and water. You are out there 4-5 or longer hours. Especially if the water is low, which ours was. We used a waterproof bag and had no issues. We used a tube with a cup holder which was nice. I wore my life vest out of precaution even though I can swim, plus it made it comfortable for my to use it as a neck rest. I've noticed people mention in previous reviews that the bus was dirty ect. Um, you're in the woods. If you get picked up after many other groups the bus will be dirty as everyone is wet coming out of the water no matter what activity you choose. I would not own a brand spanking new vehicle for this type of environment and job. Used is best and saves money I'm sure. Wear a hat and sunglasses, put in that sunscreen. Bring a waterproof phone case/bag. You will have no service out there so put it on airplane mode and use it as a camera.
