The guy working the club house said it was in the best condition of all the area courses, and he was not kidding. He also said "in general, don't miss right" which was also partially true... but really, he could have just said "don't miss" and it would have been just as palpable. The course is not very long for the most part, but is well protected by hazards. These manifest as natural reeded marsh, ponds and creeks, large pot bunkers, and just general woods. Accuracy is at a premium over distance, I think I only hit driver off the tee three times, opting instead for 3 wood or 3i hybrid in the majority of cases. The greens were immaculate, true rolls and good speed. In general, the course was very well maintained, the staff kind, bathroom breaks convenient and clean, and the drink cart girl showing up right when you needed her services! The starter let us go as a twosome without having to wait and be paired up, yay! We also hit a small bag of balls on the practice range before the round, and found it to be in good shape as well. We would absolutely play this gem of a golf course again.

It is called the Queenston Golf course because the village of Queenston is located in the town of Niagara on the Lake. It's not particularly long/hard (2,900 yards from the back tees), but it perfectly skirts the line between an executive par 3 course and a more challenging course that might scare away beginners. There are a few long, narrow fairways, but the course itself is open enough that an errant ball can be easily rescued from the neighbouring hole. It may only be 9-holes, but two of the holes have dual greens - letting you play one on the front 9, and a different one on the back. Even that slight change can make 18 just a little more interesting to play. There's relatively little elevation change, and enough sand/water to keep things interesting without burying you. A course like this is nice because it keeps beginners from getting too frustrated, and more experienced players from getting bored. The surroundings are beautiful, and there are no shortage of wineries in the immediate area - whether you're celebrating or drowning your sorrows after the round. Didn't try out the kitchen, but the decent beer selection what mission-critical thanks to the 30°+C temp our last time out.

They were very accommodating as long as you pay the ride along fee. I didn't need a tee time being a single rider, and even if I wasn't, there was one other two some on the entire course. It was kind of chilly that day, so I'm sure that didn't help. First impressions were not good. A TON of construction going on, around the clubhouse and the whole driveway coming in. I guess they're in the process of building up an entire community here. I had trouble finding a parking lot because every building was just frames of new construction. The pro shop was nice, with Loud Mouth gear everywhere and the crazy John Daly Apparel. It was the opening week, so they were still stocking the shelves. The guy who pulled the cart around for me told me that they were still working on some teeboxes, and asked that I play one of the three up tees (red, white, or blue). The other options were the black and Daly tees. I would've liked to play from at least the black because the blues made the course pretty short. The course was in really good condition, especially for the time of year. Hardly any dry or dead patches, and everything was lush green. My only complaint was the bunkers, which appeared to have not been cleaned yet for the season (lots of debris). The greens were super slow (compared to what I'm used to) and some greens weren't consistently cut (which cost me more strokes than I care to talk about). Fairways were in great shape though, and the rough was a good length. I ended up shooting a 74 for the day (par 72) and I felt like I didn't play well enough to get that score. The course played short and very easy. The par 5s were very short. The first whole was drive-able with a wood (which I did) as it was only 240 yards (par 4). Overall I had a good experience while on vacation (scoring well helped I'm sure). The course was kind of in a maintenance and building stage, so I didn't get the full effect. The layout is nice and the scenery is pretty cool on some holes (others all you see are construction vehicles and trailers). The staff was very friendly and I stopped into the pro shop on the way out to get a couple of souvenirs. Not sure when I'll be back in Niagara again but I'd be interested to see how the build up on and around the course turns out.
