Located in the Hornu shopping center/"strip mall", this seems to be the only place there to eat…read more That's OK though, because this place isn't bad at all. We stopped by today, having been shopping, and sat outside in the tropical Belgian sunshine and had a couple of St Fleuillien beers and some food. I had a roasted chicken sandwich on a baguette/French bread and my lovely wife had a panini Parmigiana, with the main ingredient being egg plant. Yeah, a chicken sandwich isn't hard to do and it was basic; nicely roasted chicken and a nice spreading of mayo, along with a little bit of salad on the plate. Hey, I really liked it! The Parmigiana was enjoyed too and she even let me taste hers. I'm getting that next time! Cannot say much about inside because I just glanced through the window. It looked clean and spacious. Best of all, the waiters were very attentive and didn't seem to make anybody wait long for their food, drinks and then bill.

I grabbed a pasta salad with tuna fish and since there are tables there, decided to stay there to eat it. My first tip - don't buy that salad! It looked good with lots of tuna and finely chopped bits of carrots but it tasted like absolutely nothing. How do you get the flavor and even the smell of tuna to disappear? These guys have mastered it! I will go back there and pick up a few things but as I said, its expensive from what I noticed. Well, specialty stores usually are and in this part of Belgium, that is what it is.

I've entertained business contacts during lunch but I also had quite a few more casual dinner nights with friendly colleagues. La Planche manages to cater to both! The interior is quite simple but the service is prompt and correct. The menu has a wide variety of options, mainly classical French-Belgian cuisine. If you are a meat eater and hungry I would certainly recommend the Filet Pur Flambe & au Poivres Concasses. Nice dish but on the heavy side so I typically just go for a standard entrecôte. I personally like their meat options, they grill it on an open fire and they do it well. They also offer quite a choice of sides, I typically go for choron sauce with croquettes. There are obviously much much better places in Brussels or any other big city but in an area where there are decent dining options are scarce, this is definitely my fave. I will certainly return when in the area!

But this one is clearly different, the shop is clean the restaurant is located in an adjacent room.. There's table service, the price is good and the food is great! I had a steak, and it was better than in most brasseries (simple and local Belgian restaurants). You pay 50ct to use the bathroom, and you get a receipt/coupon you can use to retrieve that 50ct as a discount on your meal. (Best tip I can give is put the 50ct In the machine and wait for the green light to enter, if you don't the door will get stuck.) Thumbs up for this place!

Shakes are standard and also alcoholic based. I find the shakes to have tasted very good. Service is above par for Belgium. Prompt greeting, quick return from time of order to table.
