Luna's not worth traveling to Australia for, but we were in St. Kilda and my kid saw this on the way to someplace else. It's outstanding! It's more Coney Island old school than the real place. There's (no kidding) the world's oldest working roller coaster at this park. My kid loved it (and so did everyone else). So if you've got a couple hours to spare, and you're in St. Kilda anyway, do yourself a favor and step inside -- your kids will beam with joy. We were in all parts of Melbourne and Victoria, and maybe I'm biased because the kids had so much fun, but Luna is one of the top things we did while in Victoria. read more

This is probably one of those classic seaside amusement parks, and honestly, while I'm not particularly big on such places, it is still a rather fun place to go with friends. In fact, this is basically one of those ts Kilda icons and it has been around for ages. In fact I remember coming here as a kid, and going on the rollarcoaster with my Mum. Yeah, this place really does have some history, and the rollar coaster is literally heritage listed (and still operational, in normal times that is). My friend and I were visiting from the states and she insisted that we visit both Luna Parks. So, it's not that fair to compare this one with Sydney's, but it is a lot smaller and a bit dingier. We did come during the day that was about to turn stormy, so it was definitely overcast and not very crowded at all. I also thought the cost per ride was higher than expected. The views from the top of the Ferris wheel were very nice though! But I don't think this is a must see stop. read more

Luna Park really is everything that you would expect from a theme park and more. The tickets are extortionately overpriced. The food is hideous. The games arcade is a total rip-off. Squealing children and frantic parents abound. The rides are pretty underwhelming: I challenge you to ride the Gravitron without feeling hideously sick. The roller-coasters are short and sweet, to say the least. And as Stephanie pointed out, the ghost train could not be less scary if it tried. BUT this is what makes it all so awesome. Luna Park is an unashamedly trashy experience, and proud of it. This place is a true Melbourne icon. read more

The Scenic Railway is one of the original attractions and still operates around the entire perimeter of the park, giving riders the golden ticket view of St Kilda beach. The Magic Mirrors making your legs taller, body stumpier or face alien like can keep the whole family completely amused and entertained for longer than you'll realise, and show alley games such as the moving clown faces are hits with pre-schoolers, especially as they are guaranteed a prize at the end of every game! Luna Park has managed to retain its historic charm from yesteryear and puts me in mind of what theme parks would have looked like in the fifties. Game and park attendants wear old style carnival costumes, and a little train that operates around the park all add to the spark that makes Luna Park magical, regardless of what age you are. Luna Park is one of those places that can be enjoyed by all ages, but I really love that kids as young as two or three can enjoy and partake in a lot of the fun and show rides, unlike many other theme or fun parks. Whether you're a thrill seeker, enjoy basking in the carnival like atmosphere of a great theme park, or simply want to experience a part of Melbourne come come COME to Luna Park! This is probably the last time I went there, on my own will and money. All starts with a new regime where we now have to pay to enter and wear silly wristbands. It looks like a controlled zone I was almost expecting them to ask for tax on my own food we brought. No small cans of soft drinks only half-litre. Wish there was horeca format (250ml) which is green because aluminium not PET The Ferris wheel took two quick loops and asked us off "because weighting". No photos from up there either. Staff are not happy, probably underpaid? I don't think the owners care. They have enough clients I guess. Pity. I wish the shebang was placed under new management who cares about customer experience not just profits. As for now, never again. There are parks like this in suburbs, just not Looney like this one. read more

The big mouth entrance to Luna Park conjures memories of growing up in Melbourne during the summer. Walking through those shiny red lips and giant teeth still gets me in the mood to ride the spider ride and the scenic railway. Sure, many of the rides at luna park have been there for over 20 years, and the ghost train is probably the least scary ghost train I've ever ridden in my life, but its still a great afternoon out- and so much fun to go with friends for something different to do, or even better to go with kids! Entrance is free, but you pay for each ride, game and attraction. My absolute favourite ride? Hard to decide, but maybe the carousel... it definitely brings out the little kid in me! read more

I do find it expensive as for an adult ticket it can cost around $45 on peak time. However, It's something you have to experience once in your life. You have to experience the rattles and genuine screams of all of the children fearing for their lives where you do have the feeling that a nut might fall off and it could be your last moments. It's part of the rustic charm I assure you. I always get thoroughly entertained by the guy who's job it is to stand in the middle of the carriages of the rollercoaster. What a job! The whole tour just took 3 to 4 hours. And during the sunset we enjoyed the beach. Whether you live in Melbourne or you're visiting, I do recommend that you visit Luna Park at least once. It's sort of a "get it over with" kind of thing for the sake of saying that you've at least been there before. Pros: ~ For the most part, I did have a great time but it could have just been the good company. ~ The employees were fairly helpful. Nothing too out of the ordinary. ~ Great location right on St Kilda Beach. Even if you don't really enjoy the park, a day out on the beach or visiting other parts of St Kilda is a definite plus. Cons: ~ Way overpriced. Like seriously overpriced. OUTRAGEOUSLY overpriced to the point where you will blow a lot of money if you come here often. ~ Rides aren't bad, but they weren't amazing either. But it could just because it's not worth the money because they themselves weren't that bad. --- I don't mind Luna Park, it was a good time. I went here for a corporate function. For this, Luna park was awesome. It i reviewed it as a whole as a amusement park then it would receive a different review all together. The fact that we had an event here, meant free entry, food, drinks and rides. It was really fun day out for Telstra Team day. Lots of events were on, we took a few rides, learn magic, juggling, listened to speakers and engaged with each other. It was a good day out and held really well. As with all amusement parks, Luna Park makes children's heads explode with excitement. However, that's not necessarily a representation of the quality of rides or the thrilling atmosphere of the place itself... it's more about the idea of Luna Park, which I think is much better than the reality. Having said that, there are some great rides: the Mad Mouse is a classic - it's faster and scarier than it looks; the Enterprise is an old favourite (but looses it's excitement soon after the spinning wheel turns completely vertical); the Gravatron is thrilling simply for its apparent defiance of gravity (though it has been known to cause the occasional vomit to douse unsuspecting thrill seekers on the ride); but the Ranger is truly where it's at... making you feel like you could fall to your death at any moment. And of course, there's the wild and rocky Scenic Railway that runs the perimeter of the park (one of, if not the oldest rollercoaster in the country). What sucks about Luna Park is the fact that a single adult ride pass in $9.50... to go on ONE RIDE! But if money isn't an issue, there's a fair bit of fun to be had at Luna Park. read more

Luna Park is a must see when coming to Melbourne. The small theme park right along the beach provides some great photo opportunities and is great fun for kids. My best mate, Sandy from Geelong works there which I guess makes her a carnie to a degree but I won't hold that against her. I usually find myself heading down to St Kilda on a Sunday arvo to meet up after her shift and walk around. I'm not the biggest fan of the rides but I'm also 20 and can't be bothered waiting on lines amongst children. In addition to this, I'm on a travelers budget and everything in the park is pretty expensive. Definitely go take a picture in front of Luna Park and enjoy the atmosphere that surrounds you and the excitement in the air. It's an easy 25 minute tram ride from the city and St Kilda's got tons of cafes, bars, clubs, venues, restaurants and so much more to offer to anyone and everyone. read more

Luna Park really is a Melbourne icon and if you are a tourist, I would definitely recommend checking it out and having your photo taken in front of the famed big mouth entrance. Inside though, it is your basic, standard, average theme park. It is quite pricey and the food etc is nothing to write home about.
