On Jan. 19,2024 the city of Providence flipped the switch on a month-long celebration of light called Lumina. The public art project is based in the 195 District Park filled with colorful lights.
It's the first time the art exhibit - which has toured the world many times before - has come to Rhode Island. The prism exhibits are mobile, so anyone can turn and see the lights refract out....also there are wind chimes inside the prisms so they churn out a melody as the exhibit moves...
Throughout this month long festival, there will be special events such as a light parade, skating performances (with dance parties), lectures and dining specials at selected restaurants. At the 195 District Park, the festival's visual anchor is an exhibit called "Prismatica" - 25 prisms that refract any number of a rainbow of colors at you depending on where you stand. The 6-foot panels are a sight......A beautiful way to stroll around downtown on a winter night.
At certain times of the day, there are food truck and beer stations.
It's free to attend. read more
