If I won the lottery, there would be signs... It is such a dream to have a space like this, that is a private residence, but also used for various art exhibits.
I got the chance to visit the current exhibit 'Where I End... You Begin.' This is an exhibit about the relationship between designer and client, and designer and space, by Andee Hess of Osmose Design. It in itself is wonderfully creative, but the space it is hosted in is equally impressive.
You enter through a nondescript door on NW 9th. A second set of doors, but this time the opposite of nondescript - wonderful, huge, Douglas fir - invite you to the hallway and then to a winding and wide wooden staircase up to the second floor. The exhibition space is totally Portland, with wood floors and wood beam ceilings, and three huge windows that look out onto the Pearl District.
It is wonderful that the owners of the space choose to share it. Keep an eye on their website or social media for information about when you might be able to visit, as it is primarily appointment- or invite-only. And in the meantime, support local artists whenever you get the chance! read more
