Of course, on any given visit, there would be different local artist's works exhibited, and there's no guarantee that some or any works would appeal to me (or to anyone, on any given day. Art is so subjective, and the featured artists here change regularly). I was just lucky that I loved so many pieces of art when I visited. There are many things I loved about this gallery: they showcase a wide range of artistic works, from photographs to paintings to sculptures to glassworks to artisan hand-made jewelry and more. All the artists are local. All the art pieces are for sale. There is a huge range of prices for the works, so there really is something for any budget. (Note: when I was there, there were postcards and small prints with the featured photographer's works on them, and these were super reasonably priced). And best of all, you can often chat with the artists who are there! I loved the fact that the featured jewelry maker was there, and she talked about her inspirations and her artistic process. It was fascinating (and she was super talented - and nice to boot!). I love supporting local businesses and local artisans and artists, and this gallery checks all the boxes.

Great space with artists onsite during First Thursday. Both Dave and Nancy took time to share their art and just chit chat about Portland life as both had been in the area for several years. This IS what creates and builds community and is the essence of First Thursday - chatting with artists and learning from them. Love it! That's the widest out of town art fair participation of any Portland Gallery. They are gathering a beautiful challenging contemporary group of artists capable of being noticed far beyond Portland. They regularly present video works. They are brave in doing installations and even performance connected with the installation. A notable example was their work with MSHR, Mission Statement Human Radiance, sculpture, analog synth and performance pair artists. Based in Portland, they operate internationally. Their most recent artist went immediately to the Frye Museum in Seattle. That is why we like Upfor, they are serious about finding world class artists and exporting them to world collectors. Upfor is a two year old very contemporary art gallery that is one of Portland's top commercial galleries.

The founder of Eutectic is Jeffrey Thomas was cofounder of Portland's single most influential gallery, the Jamison Thomas Gallery. Jamison Square is a memorial to his influence on the arts in Portland. Thomas was also executive director of the Museum of Contemporary Craft and has some artistic relatives too.

What caught my attention and drew me in was the absolutely stunning textured scarf in the window in several shades of aqua, teal, and a bit of lavendar. Reminded me of the colors of the sea, which is always what appeals to me. As I wondered in, I was impressed with the variety. Ceramic wall clocks, some shaped like the beloved VW van, handmade jewelry, watercolors, oils, postcards, canvas, framed prints, textiles - basically something for everyone, including prices. Its posted hours allow for the serendipitous: X-time to X-time on designated days or "by chance," they say, offsetting (a bit) the rigidity that many galleries exude. Yesterday was First Thursday and an opening reception, so access was sure, and the photos on display were accomplished, but glare off the glass of the frames was a problem. A skylight above one had me shielding my eyes from the invading rays, but even with that, I was squinting. This issue would be season-specific in Portland, of course, but I'm not much inclined to trek to NW 8th in the darker months.
