I greatly enjoyed my visit one sunny afternoon. As an American citizen living in Hamburg, I have come to miss ice cream from home and have been on the hunt for something with similar thickness and flavor. I have found that ice cream here is often very soft (as opposed to hard and thick American ice cream) and the flavors are not as intense.
Someone recommended me to try Luicella's, and I was not disappointed. The lady at the counter helped me choose from their plethora of flavors, and then even told me that they do a small scoop of another flavor on top of their cups and cones, just so people can try more options.
The shop itself was not very large. It had plenty of sitting options, inside and out, and had a very modern, cute vibe. It would be a great place to meet some friends.
I got the coconut mango flavor and banana, with the franz broetchen flavor to try on top. All of them were great. Though I would not order banana again, they all had very strong and refreshing flavor. The ice cream still was not on par to American ice cream texture, but it was the closests I have had so far.
Overall, I plan to visit this place a few more times while I am here. Fair warning, it is on the expensive side compared to other ice cream options in Hamburg, but to me it is worth it. read more
