Large ruined Norman Castle . Built about 1100 by the De Lacys . Very important border fortress often under Royal control with large amounts spent on its structure . Has played a significant role in this country's history being at one time the home of the Mortimers .it was here that the Princes in the Tower were living when their father died . From here they travelled to London where the eldest was meant to be crowned King , but the Archbishop let it out that the King had committed Bigamy having married some lady before the Queen so the boys were illegitimate hence why their uncle Richard became king instead . Its now believed that following the Battle of Bosworth the traitor Henry the 7th had the boys murdered in the Tower as he did all the other potential rivals for the throne . The castle dominates the town and is poised beautifully above the gorge above the river Teme . Theres lots of buildings standing to their full height , a keep , great hall , towers etc . The grounds host loads of events such as food festivals . read more
