I had never stayed in a hostel before, so I was a bit nervous based on stories from friends in other crowded cities. The check-in process was very easy. I booked through hostelworld and they just needed a passport to verify, then gave me the entrance key, house rules, and directions to my room. I stayed in a co-ed room with about 20 other people. Each bed was in bunk form with clean sheets and pillows with plenty of secure space to keep luggage underneath and an outlet to charge devices on the wall. The showers were clean and I felt like I had privacy while changing as well. The atmosphere at night was awesome. During my first night, I met four people each from a different area of the United States/England and we ended up bar hopping together. What an experience that was! The nightly rates are only a few more bucks than other similar ones, but I can assure you that they do not have the energy like the downtown Flying Pig does!

Beds are super comfy and each one has a mini locker by their side. And even though there's a tram right out of the door, don't worry about transportation: you can rent an ad-free bike for just 5 euros a day, so you can look like a true Amsterdamer. And let's face it, there's no better way to navigate the city than on your own bike.

Just my luck... In the basement, there is a nice lounge area with shared kitchen and dining space. Lots of lovely couches to fall asleep on and a beautiful cat to keep you company. There is also a garden and you can go out there from 9AM - 9PM, only cigarette smoking allowed. Tons of books, movies to keep you entertained. You can also play old-school Nintendo. Wow brings back memories. They will also do your laundry for €6. If you don't have a tablet or computer, they can loan you one. Good wifi throughout the hostel. If you arrive before check-in time, you can leave your bag and check-in later, the front desk open 9AM - 9PM. I stayed in a 4 bed coed room aptly named, "The Brothel Room." Beds are comfy and also there are lockers in the room if you need to lock up something. The bathroom is in the room, so not as big of a hassle to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My only gripe is that they don't serve breakfast. It is probably one of the only places I've stayed at in Amsterdam that doesn't have breakfast. Bummer...

It's a lodging space that doubles as a hostel and hotel. You can either book a dorm or your own room. With my best friend, we had a standard double room with two (2) beds and our own bathroom. The window in the room was huge offering plenty of natural light. There was also a long, thin radiator underneath the window that kept our room toasty while we were out exploring the city. It was clean & spacious with a desk, a closet, two (2) nightstands both with their own lamp, fresh towels, a blow dryer with a heat concentrator, and body wash. . Aside from having an amazing room, the hotel has a ton of amenities. Via offers a buffet style breakfast for €12.50 daily (or €11.25 if booked in advance), in the lobby and at the bar, they offer mint water, they have a cinema room where you can do yoga everyday at 9am (the staff let us choose a YouTube video to follow along), there's a restaurant with a full bar inside the hotel called The Dude which is where breakfast is served; they also serve lunch and dinner. On the lower level, you'll find parking, there's a laundry room where each wash comes with free detergent, also lockers and a communal kitchen. . Lastly, our stay wouldn't have been as great as it was without the wonderful employees. Marika greeted us and helped us extend our stay. Peppin and Speters came to the rescue with ginger tea and a bucket when my friend was sick from possible food poisoning. Nicole rocked the house with karaoke night (they give free shots for every song you sing) and the gentleman behind the bar with the blonde bob (I didn't get his name) was always kind and helpful! The space was always maintained and everyone was professional. . As for location, the hotel is a 5-7 min walk from the Diemen Zuid train station and a half hour commute from Amsterdam Centraal. Train tickets are €3.40 cents one way and most people speak English. We took the train and tram everywhere. Within the Diemen neighborhood were some great spots to eat Mama's Pot was a 15 min walk offering Nigerian cuisine and fútbol watch nights, all within the same plaza and about a 6 min walk from the hotel lives Bagels & Beans. A vibrant bagel shop with grand and creative sandwiches, we had the cutest miniature sushi at Lil Tokyo and got snacks at Spar. . I highly recommend Via to anyone looking for a cool place to stay that is safe, clean, fun and budget friendly! We'll be back!

It was hands down the cleanest, cutest, and the staff was amazing. Honestly I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. I stayed with a group of 7 people and we all bunked an entire room together. The room was so spacious! The bathroom was so big! The short DEFINITELY needed to be bigger but I can't complain. They have a movie room, so many areas to just lay back and relax. Breakfast was delicious! You could basically stay here the entire time and enjoy yourself if you really wanted to! Thank you Via Amstedam; when I come back I'll be staying with you guys again! I had booked for 2 night but was out of there after the first night, the assistant manager got nasty very argumentative about the things got handle with my reservation. Not worth it. Very girly, lots of pink all around. There is a cool lounge area where you can read, use your comp, lounge and meet other interesting travelers. The girl at the front desk was super nice even though it was crazy busy. She was trying to check a bunch of people in and answer the phone also. I booked for a 4-bed room, but apparently, they overbooked and she only had an 8-bed room for me. I said ok, wasn't a big deal. She also discounted my stay and gave me free breakfast in the morning (normally it is 5 euros). They have a kitchen, so you can store your food and cook. Also, a nice library full of interesting books. Bathrooms are clean and there are many, so no waiting in the morning. I really liked this hostel and when I come thru Amsterdam again, I would consider staying here. But the only problem is it is a bit out of Central Amsterdam. It is easily accessible by train, but still a bit of a pain to get to when it is late at night, so that's why the 4 stars.

They did not supply any towels, breakfast, or even drinking water (that wasn't Bottled and costed €1). Not highly recommended, however if you have money and are just looking for a roof over your head it will give you that.

The beds were so close that I could literally turn my head and see a random face less than 6 inches away... No Bueno. Sorry, going to have to take one last star for the awkward way the showers are designed. You'll get absolutely no privacy the moment you decide you want a nice hot shower and call it a day. You scan your key, open the door, and there's a shower divided by a sliding glass (see through) door, without another door to separate that from the room with bunk beds... meaning anyone can walk in any time on you. I never felt so vulnerable in my life. ***** No free breakfast included. Free wifi. Really clean showers (despite the lack of privacy). Body wash/shampoo included. The toilets are in separate rooms outside the main rooms. In a gist, you get what you paid for. I'm not picky so I had no regrets. I picked a bottom bunk and the lights and speaker system were so unique. You can change them through the City Hub app. The place was pretty clean. Bathrooms were clean with multiple stalls and nicely decorated. The side of the bed was slightly dusty, though. They also have a vending machine in case you forgot anything like toiletries or flip flops. But I couldn't figure out how to purchase the items using the wrist band. Overall, I'd definitely stay here again if I was looking for a cheap place to stay in Amsterdam.

Dyson hair dryers for use in the shower room. Plenty of showers (7-8??). Nice Rituals shampoo + body wash. One shower did flood a little, so keep that in mind. Can change out towels as needed from a file cabinet in the common area; I shared a room with my friend, so grabbed an extra comforter as well- both items included! Pod living was similar to that of Japan, limited but adequate space. Common area available if you needed more room, place to work, etc. It felt a bit cramped for two people, but was fine overall. Bonus : resident black cat (needs occasional assistance exiting and entering the hostel).

The entry way is hard to find, but it's hiding in the corner looking at a stream. You walk in and have a few sets of staircases, but just go to the right. The front desk was really interesting. All the employees have badges detailing what language they spoke. Check in wasn't later, so we stored our bags in their basement area which was super helpful and a must when you're carrying a crap ton of luggage. We got our keys and headed to our room. The rooms weren't anything out of this world, but very clean and -I'm assuming-standard. There are lockers in the room, which is an absolute must have when you stay in hostels (just bring your own lock). The bunk beds were fine, if not a little squeaky, but my boyfriend and I shared on. The bathrooms were single stall down the hall and the showers were spread out. I never personally had problems finding open bathrooms or showers. There was a bar downstairs with a mini restaurant. We were there on St Patrick's Day, which seemed overly Americanized. Oh well because we had some free beer tickets! We also tried some absinthe for the first time and... WOW! Breakfast was absolutely amazing. They do have a guest kitchen, but why cook breakfast when it's $8/night when you book early? The breakfast was a smorgasbord of local meats, spreads, fruits, veggies, breads (rye, wheat, sweet bread, and etc.), and so much more. The coffee machine has a thousand settings, including chocolate lattes. I highly recommend the chocolate latte with their farmer's bread and chocolate hazelnut spread. All in all I was very pleased with my first hostel experience. We stayed in Air BnBs the rest of the vacation, but I appreciated staying in the hostel. Clink was so close to everything and the central train station hub was a short fairy ride. Definitely invest in the Amsterdam rail pass and you have a quick way to get around town.

Definitely a bit grimy, but not too bad. You do have to make your own bed upon arrival, which is a bit silly. And super warm rooms. One fan in the room, but didn't do much to circulate air. My main issues were the bathrooms. The shower stalls didn't have any ventilation, so just opening the door you were hit with the scent of MOLD! Really grossed me out. The price overall was way more expensive than any other hostel I stayed in across Europe. I'm not sure if Amsterdam hostels are just more expensive in general, but I wasn't thrilled with the price hike and the subpar cleanliness and lack of things being ready upon arrival. It is fun to take the ferry across, but if I visit Amsterdam again, I will definitely be trying to stay on the other side of the river just for ease of access.
