Totally a scam!! Avoid at all cost. They want you to book through their site and not use other apps…read moreso they offer 20%. When the offer on Hostelworld said if you wanted a room alone you had to book all 4 beds. They waited until we got there 2 days later to tell us we would all be split up in several rooms. Refused to refund. A terrible experience and they thrive on ripping off travelers. It was almost like they took pride in it.

If you are debating on where to stay in Amsterdam during your stay, you need to end that debate…read moreright now. This location is right in the heart of all the action, and every major spot to hit within the city is within walking distance or a quick tram ride away. I had never stayed in a hostel before, so I was a bit nervous based on stories from friends in other crowded cities. The check-in process was very easy. I booked through hostelworld and they just needed a passport to verify, then gave me the entrance key, house rules, and directions to my room. I stayed in a co-ed room with about 20 other people. Each bed was in bunk form with clean sheets and pillows with plenty of secure space to keep luggage underneath and an outlet to charge devices on the wall. The showers were clean and I felt like I had privacy while changing as well. The atmosphere at night was awesome. During my first night, I met four people each from a different area of the United States/England and we ended up bar hopping together. What an experience that was! The nightly rates are only a few more bucks than other similar ones, but I can assure you that they do not have the energy like the downtown Flying Pig does!

On this visit, I chose Cocomama for part of the trip. Cocomama is close to Fredericksplein, which is the main artery for some hip places you'll want to go. It is near the city centre, but not too close, otherwise it gets tacky. The ladies at the front desk are friendly and helpful. They give you a full tour of the hostel, which was once a brothel. Just my luck... In the basement, there is a nice lounge area with shared kitchen and dining space. Lots of lovely couches to fall asleep on and a beautiful cat to keep you company. There is also a garden and you can go out there from 9AM - 9PM, only cigarette smoking allowed. Tons of books, movies to keep you entertained. You can also play old-school Nintendo. Wow brings back memories. They will also do your laundry for €6. If you don't have a tablet or computer, they can loan you one. Good wifi throughout the hostel. If you arrive before check-in time, you can leave your bag and check-in later, the front desk open 9AM - 9PM. I stayed in a 4 bed coed room aptly named, "The Brothel Room." Beds are comfy and also there are lockers in the room if you need to lock up something. The bathroom is in the room, so not as big of a hassle to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night. My only gripe is that they don't serve breakfast. It is probably one of the only places I've stayed at in Amsterdam that doesn't have breakfast. Bummer...

The hostel provided a fun environment for our two night stay and we were able to meet people visiting Amsterdam from all over. Unfortunately, the day after we checked out of the hostel my room mate woke up with bed bug bites all over her back and on her face. I understand that this is the risk you take when staying in a hostel, however I always expect for the staff to do thorough examinations of every bed before a new guest checks in. We immediately alerted Coco Mama via email about the bed bug situation. We told them about the time and money that we lost having to dry clean everything we brought into their hostel and asked for them to check the beds we stayed in. I received a response telling me that unfortunately things like this happen in hostels. There was no apology or mention of a partial refund for our stay. I reached out two more times about the situation and inquired about a refund and got no response. I find this to be completely unprofessional and telling of Coco Mama. It's unfortunate that what started out as a great stay ended up costing us time, more money, and a bad case of bed bug bites. I would not recommend staying at this hostel.

It's a lodging space that doubles as a hostel and hotel. You can either book a dorm or your own room. With my best friend, we had a standard double room with two (2) beds and our own bathroom. The window in the room was huge offering plenty of natural light. There was also a long, thin radiator underneath the window that kept our room toasty while we were out exploring the city. It was clean & spacious with a desk, a closet, two (2) nightstands both with their own lamp, fresh towels, a blow dryer with a heat concentrator, and body wash. . Aside from having an amazing room, the hotel has a ton of amenities. Via offers a buffet style breakfast for €12.50 daily (or €11.25 if booked in advance), in the lobby and at the bar, they offer mint water, they have a cinema room where you can do yoga everyday at 9am (the staff let us choose a YouTube video to follow along), there's a restaurant with a full bar inside the hotel called The Dude which is where breakfast is served; they also serve lunch and dinner. On the lower level, you'll find parking, there's a laundry room where each wash comes with free detergent, also lockers and a communal kitchen. . Lastly, our stay wouldn't have been as great as it was without the wonderful employees. Marika greeted us and helped us extend our stay. Peppin and Speters came to the rescue with ginger tea and a bucket when my friend was sick from possible food poisoning. Nicole rocked the house with karaoke night (they give free shots for every song you sing) and the gentleman behind the bar with the blonde bob (I didn't get his name) was always kind and helpful! The space was always maintained and everyone was professional. . As for location, the hotel is a 5-7 min walk from the Diemen Zuid train station and a half hour commute from Amsterdam Centraal. Train tickets are €3.40 cents one way and most people speak English. We took the train and tram everywhere. Within the Diemen neighborhood were some great spots to eat Mama's Pot was a 15 min walk offering Nigerian cuisine and fútbol watch nights, all within the same plaza and about a 6 min walk from the hotel lives Bagels & Beans. A vibrant bagel shop with grand and creative sandwiches, we had the cutest miniature sushi at Lil Tokyo and got snacks at Spar. . I highly recommend Via to anyone looking for a cool place to stay that is safe, clean, fun and budget friendly! We'll be back!

The room was so spacious! The bathroom was so big! The short DEFINITELY needed to be bigger but I can't complain. They have a movie room, so many areas to just lay back and relax. Breakfast was delicious! You could basically stay here the entire time and enjoy yourself if you really wanted to! Thank you Via Amstedam; when I come back I'll be staying with you guys again! All the pictures I took were at night but during the day its so light and full of life!!

I booked it thinking that being an all women everyone would be nice!.. big mistake from the receptionist and the assistant manager everyone was horrible. Unable to provide directions, place is in a shopping center, scary place full of street people asking you for money, area is not well lit and the only light is right in front of the room I was assigned to so all night that light lites up the room. The bar right next to it keeps you awake with drunk people discussions and conversation. I had booked for 2 night but was out of there after the first night, the assistant manager got nasty very argumentative about the things got handle with my reservation. Not worth it. Now, come on, yes, I love boys, but the honest truth is, they are dirty. And if it isn't a boy I like or love, I am not sure I want to deal with their funkiness just for a few nights when passing through a city. This hostel is clean and very cute. Very girly, lots of pink all around. There is a cool lounge area where you can read, use your comp, lounge and meet other interesting travelers. The girl at the front desk was super nice even though it was crazy busy. She was trying to check a bunch of people in and answer the phone also. I booked for a 4-bed room, but apparently, they overbooked and she only had an 8-bed room for me. I said ok, wasn't a big deal. She also discounted my stay and gave me free breakfast in the morning (normally it is 5 euros). They have a kitchen, so you can store your food and cook. Also, a nice library full of interesting books. Bathrooms are clean and there are many, so no waiting in the morning. I really liked this hostel and when I come thru Amsterdam again, I would consider staying here. But the only problem is it is a bit out of Central Amsterdam. It is easily accessible by train, but still a bit of a pain to get to when it is late at night, so that's why the 4 stars.

There isn't much of a main area unless you smoke and want to use their reserved smoking room. As for storage for your bags before/after checking in, there are two cubbie holes near the front desk that are wide open and far from secure. As for the rooms, although my bed was very comfortable, there was only one toilet and one shower for each floor that was to be split between about 25 people. They did not supply any towels, breakfast, or even drinking water (that wasn't Bottled and costed €1). Not highly recommended, however if you have money and are just looking for a roof over your head it will give you that.

Best location (closest to all things touristy - I.e. Van Gogh Museum, Rijksmuseum, Anne Frank…read moreHouse, Heineken Experience), so that's 5 stars. And here we go... Minus one star for its steep ass stairway as their main entrance. You'll never find this place at night, since the sign is almost invisible and there's only a small piece of paper with the red letters painted "Hostel" posted at the top of the door. You have to ring the doorbell to be let in, then you climb up those narrow stairs to get to the main "lobby" to check in. There's a smoke room open 24 hours on the same floor (when you know you're in Amsterdam ). Minus another one for the small ass rooms with miniature bunk beds. Everything feels so squished (barely any walking room), lockers are run down, and the bed linen doesn't appear to be the cleanest. The beds were so close that I could literally turn my head and see a random face less than 6 inches away... No Bueno. Sorry, going to have to take one last star for the awkward way the showers are designed. You'll get absolutely no privacy the moment you decide you want a nice hot shower and call it a day. You scan your key, open the door, and there's a shower divided by a sliding glass (see through) door, without another door to separate that from the room with bunk beds... meaning anyone can walk in any time on you. I never felt so vulnerable in my life. ***** No free breakfast included. Free wifi. Really clean showers (despite the lack of privacy). Body wash/shampoo included. The toilets are in separate rooms outside the main rooms. In a gist, you get what you paid for. I'm not picky so I had no regrets. The proximity to everything made up for the crappy living accommodations.

WE WERE ROBBED BY HOSTEL STAFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. This was the most horrific experience…read moreever. On an educational school trip, we booked a 4 night stay at this hostel. 8 women, including myself, were assigned ROOM 228. Hostel staff was aware that us women knew each other and were traveling together upon check in. We went to bed at 145am and woke up at 650am to the realization that euros and credit/debit cards were STOLEN from our room and our lockers. We immediately went to the front desk, which informed us that security would not be in until 3pm and that there was nothing they could review until then. We were also told that we could not view the footage due to "privacy". Interesting how we had no privacy though..in the MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT. Upon further examination of the door in the morning, it appeared the lock was BROKEN and was not connecting with the door. The only way to get into our room was with a KEY CARD SWIPE. The hostel "manager" informed us that the hostel would be "opening up an INVESTIGATION". But would not guarantee a refund. We felt so UNSAFE here that we moved to another hotel. Never would have expected to have my rights VIOLATED in this way. This hostel should be shut down, as numerous other reviews mention thieves, thievery, theft, stolen items, feeling unsafe, and the room being in terrible condition. The staff are incompetent. Hostel staff- don't even bother replying to this review. Nothing you could say will make up for the traumatic experience I experienced at your establishment. My biggest recommendation for you is to FIX THE LOCK ON 228, refund our stay, and PROSECUTE the criminal who broke into our room. My biggest piece of advice to others is to AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Also, didn't appreciate the tattoo shop in the lobby.
