Jasmine Thai Restaurant - The vegan combo (red curry with tofu, rice, veggie spring rolls, and stir fried veggies)

I got the Vegan combo, which came with vegan egg rolls, stir fried veggies, and red curry with tofu. These were all very tasty, and in my opinion, tofu tastes better than meat in curry as it doesn't try out and become rubbery. They do close between 14:30 to 18:00 (2:30pm to 6pm), so try to come for proper meal times. Highly recommend this place.

The location on Fore Street, on the southern edge of the centre, is not the location you might expect to find a good restaurant, but it's clear on entering that a lot of thought and investment has gone into the venue. The welcome was warm and friendly but not over-familiar - and we were seated and served very quickly. The choice covers a range of familiar Thai dishes, with vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options clearly labelled. The meat is sourced with care - ie free range and local. Staff were happy (within reason) to adjust the spiciness of dishes to suit Our food was very good - my Tom kha soup was excellent - fragrant and flavourful - and both a green curry and ginger stir-fry similarly impressed. Fish-cakes were a little disappointing but, overall, we were very happy with the dining experience. Overall, two courses with drinks came to £45. I'd be very happy to recommend it and happy to return.

I lived in Llantwit Major for a number of years and never visited The Old White Hart, mainly…read morebecause during one election, I think it was 2005, they put up a massive UKIP banner. Now there's one way to deter the punters. But on returning to Llantwit, I understand that there are new owners in charge now. Apparently they've turned the place around. Once grotty, it's now a magnificent traditional country pub. In the public bar, you'll find three guest cask ales (Spitfire, Old Specked Hen and the sublime Timothy Taylor's Landlord were available on my visit) at £2.90 a pint or £4.60 for a pie and a pint. Such an old-style approach to bar snacks is further cemented with the large jars of pickled eggs, pickled onions and cockles behind the bar. I can't stand them, but it was heartening to see them in a pub. The low wood beam ceiling, the slate floor, the beery smell and the yellowing Bass clock, completed the scene of country pub precision. Only the sporadic jukebox bungled the show. One concession to modernity I was pleased to see was an It-Box with Monopoly on it. There's also a dart board for use here. On the other side of the bar you'll find a large lounge set up for diners that looked clean and well presented. There's a large and quite pretty beer garden to the rear as well as some tables out front, which overlook the historic square. With poker on Monday nights, a quiz on Thursdays, a disco on Saturday nights and live music on Sunday afternoons, there's always something going on in The Old White Hart. A cracking pub.

This place is like Cheers, Vale-style…read more I guess you can attribute the convivial atmosphere to its location in the centre of such a small village - I certainly felt it while sipping a few Stellas, and it was enough to cement its place in my cold Yank heart as a pleasant pub with a personality. The clientele here encompass a range of ages, from jitterbugs to one lady who I overheard saying that she and her husband have been together 63 years (!!). I can't imagine living that long, much less upholding marriage vows to one person. The building that boasts The Old White Hart was built around 1440 (according to the website) and embodies the quintessential British pub persona with its low wood beam ceiling, traditional decor and expansive beer garden. With a range of beers, ales and ciders, The Old White Hart is a haven for imbibing locals, but its warm and familiar spirit is extended to everyone who passes through its doors.

Cosmo - a really good place to have a amazing night with friends and families the foods are tasty never forget the mint&choc ice cream!

NOTES: ~ This review is based on my experience on a Saturday night, so it was relatively busy. Ambiance: This place is really clean and fancy. It could get pretty crowded so I recommend calling ahead to make a reservation if need be (for large parties). Thankfully, I only had a party of 2 so it was pretty easy to accommodate and needed to wait only about 15 minutes or so. On the inside, with all the glitz and glamour, Cosmo is definitely made for a special night out to treat yourself every now and again. Customer Service: From what I've seen, before you go in while you're still in the queue, they could get a bit short with you and impatient. However once you finally sit down, the staff is attentive and respectful. I guess just grit your teeth through the service until you finally get in? Food: This is why I love Cosmo. It goes for a pan-Asian Fusion experience with cuisine from all around the world - Chinese, Indian, etc. I'm a huge fan because I've been seriously lacking authentic non-Chop Suey Chinese food in Swansea and Cosmo definitely delivers. My recommendations: ~ Potstickers. They're little nuggets of meat wrapped in flour and pan-fried. Delicious and juicy on the inside. The chef here does some of the best potstickers I've had! ~ Duck w/ Pancakes. Get it with Hoisin Sauce (a brown slightly sweet thick sauce), cucumber, and wrap it all up in a pancake. Delicious! ~ They make really really good battered chicken on a stick. ~ The queue for large dishes such as the lobster, salmon, etc takes a VERY long time so it depends whether or not you want to go. It's really well made though and fresh. ~ Get the dim sum. They're in round wooden containers and the custard buns are delicious. I'd definitely come here again.

There was a wide selection of Indian and Chinese food to choose from, I assume there is more of a selection in the evening too. The food wasn't 5/5 but it was definitely what I'd expect when I'm paying £6.50. The drinks are quite expensive, however beer is at a relatively normal price which is a positive! Overall I'd come here again, in fact I look forward to it and trying out the other options they have.

iCookThai - Possibly the world's best chicken satay!!

Just back from a business lunch out with a colleague who had heartily recommended eating at…read moreiCookThai and, having had one of the best dining experiences I've ever had, I can see why he loves it! First thing to say is this is not your average run-of-the-mill dining experience. On first entering the restaurant, the decor is, shall we say, eclectic with old shelves around the room piled with plates, steamers, dishes and an assortment of ingredients with the tables and chairs looking functional at best. But look beyond the decor, because what iCookThai is really about is the food and the experience! When I first entered, I was met by the owner/chef - Pimm - as though I was an old friend, not just a first time visitor with one of his more regular clients. After being shown to our table and having perused the lunch time menu - more comprehensive than many - it was difficult to decide which of the many interesting dishes. Pimm was the consumate host and, knowing we had business to discuss poring over laptops and tablets, suggested the chicken satay to start with and a light noodle broth dish which would be tasty but light enough not to spoil our concentration. When the food was served - all freshly prepared and pleasant, unhurried service - I finally could see what makes this an outstanding dining experience. The chicken satay was quite frankly one of the top 5 dishes I have ever had in my life - the most succulent chicken pieces, marinated to perfection and with perfect charred lines from the grill. Served alonside this was the most amazing satay sauce which arrived flaming and which had a delicious chilli warmth without overpowering the other spices. Along side this were 2 perfectly formed little rice blocks with the sweetest flavour and the dish was finished with a small dish of lightly pickled cucumber/pepper which had the most delicate crunch and flavour to perfectly round out a stunning dish. More conversation with Pimm followed the starter while the main was being prepared - another light and refreshing steaming bowl of a delicate broth with noodles, chicken and vegetables (all perfectly cooked to retain their full flavour and crunch), finished with a drizzle of the most sumptuous chilli oil on the top. Once again, the whole dish was perfectly balanced with the zing of chilli just sufficient without overpowering the delicate balance of flavours. By now, Pimm felt like an old friend as he explained the cooking processes and ingredients with all the passion for his art of cooking, all interspersed with stories of his interesting life story. Dessert followed on an impromtu serenading by Pimm accompanied by his guitar (all part of the rich experience!) which was homemade green tea ice-cream - bags of flavour yet a delicate way to round off a lovely lunch. We couldn't resist staying a little longer for a coffee (extremely good with excellent crema) and, at Pimm's persuasion, a bubble tea - my first experience of this curious beverage! All in all, we spent about 4 hours in the restaurant, but never once felt rushed or hurried or as if we were outstaying our welcome. The food is undoubtedly the star, but Pimm makes the whole experience of a meal there quirkily wonderful! I can still count on one hand the number of truly outstanding dining "experiences" I have had in my life, and I have travelled extensively around the globe. Eating at iCookThai is certainly in the top 3, and I look forward to eating there again soon and perhaps taking one of Pimm's cookery courses. Highly recommended
