We loved this place and hope to go back soon. We rented one of their floating condos along with some friends and stayed two nights. The condo is basically a house boat without a motor that is anchored to the dock and has two small bedrooms w/ double-beds, a bathroom, a living room, and a kitchen/dining area. There is a spacious deck on top where you can sit and admire the spectacular view. Perfect for 4 people.
We rented a 24' platio boat for the day (ask for the newer yellow one) and had a great day on the water, cruising and fishing. It has a canopy you can open for shade or rain cover. The marina is barely on the Utah side of the border with Wyoming, and the store there sells fishing licenses for either or both states. They also have fishing supplies, as well as other sundries (clothers, alcohol, souveneirs).
The people who run the place were great -- so nice and friendly. Raynette checked us in and was very helpful, as was her daughter Cody, who let us into the condo and gave us advice on fishing and other things to do. Billie in the store was a hoot, and Brian at the dock was great.
One thing you should know if you want to rent a boat is that you have to be back at the dock by 6 PM or else they, by law, have to send the sherriff out to find you. The marina is inside a national park, so this is Homeland Security at work.
You also need to buy a pass to the park, unless you have an annual pass to the national parks, which is what we were able to use.
The people in the office can help you locate things to do in the area. We drove up to the Red Canyon Lodge for dinner. There is a pond there, but no great views of the gorge. If you enter the road into the park then drive past the entrance to the lodge, you will be able to walk out to areas where you can see the gorge. There is a platform off to the right that has truly amazing views of the canyons. The dam is a little further (stay on 44 and turn on 191) and offers tours. We took the geological loop off of 44, which was worthwhile. The Hub was recommended to us as a good restaurant closer to the marina, but we never made it there. read more
