I'll be super honest, I've only bowled here a few times. My son had a birthday party or two here,…read more For those on a budget and don't go to church Sunday mornings are best before noon where lane and shoe rentals are cheap. Bowling just 2 games with 3 people is easily 2 hours. I see birthday parties here, and crowds of college kids many of whom are not from the area. They do lights out with moving lights and music videos over the lanes throughout the day and on weekends. They also have a pretty well stocked arcade area with a ticket generator and a prize counter. I have friends that I meet here once a week at the bar and we all converse about similar topics as Barfly's of all ages. The bartenders are really nice. If you come here you will see 1 person doing the work of 2 or 3 running back and forth servicing pitches, mixing up simple and complex cocktails, while earning their well deserved tips. There is a another smaller bar at the other end of the building serving just beer and wine. Order food at the well stocked snack bar (you'd be amazed at whats on their menu) and have it delivered to the bar or your lane. There are mobile order takers roaming around too. My friends order the pizza while I order the fries, hot wings and even the grilled cheese is good. The people behind the counter at the snack bar are really nice. remember to complement them so you get a big smile back. In a pinch when looking for a place to get hot-wings and i don't feel like wing-stop, I'll come here instead. Fun fact for anyone new to the city and referring to this place to your friends that have been here all their lives, When I refer to this place as All-Star folks look at me weird and then I say "Don Carters" and then they're like, why didn't you say so in the first place! Not being from here I wouldn't have known that. Now you can preted to be from here by referring to it as it's former name. Most evenings there's a city police cruiser out front and an office patrolling the lobby and lanes. I've never seen any trouble here even on the busiest of nights when it switches from league to college night ($5 pitchers for the cheap beer). I've been here when all lanes were full and there was an hour wait for people to bowl. The bar is nice place to hang out and people watch, converse with the staff as this appears to be their safe haven during all the chaos. Interestingly, the DJ is a computer. The system is on auto-pilot from open to close. The mechanical systems that run the lanes are maintained by a couple of dedicated technicians that are constantly correcting issues and working to make sure people have a good time. The decor in the place is as one would say "charming in it's own way". The carpet needs replacing, it still reaks of old smoke when they used to allow smoking there years ago. The decor in the bar is 70's brown panelling, although I understand it was recently renovated that way?? (hire a interior decorator guys). There is a mini-golf course attached to it that I've taken my son and his friends to a few times, and there's a snow-ball place that is now owned by the bowling alley and runs it during the warmer months on the edge of the parking lot. All in all it's a local place. Despite competition moving in at the mall, I don't think Don Carter's will be going anywhere anytime soon, and even if they don't renovate it will have that "Big Lebowski" charm to it to all that go to visit.

The person answering the phone didn't know the answer to the question, so she took my name and number and said she would have the manager call when they came in that evening. Didn't hear from the manager or anyone else. We took a chance, drove 35 minutes, arriving at 9:00: the whole family (4 cars). Walked up to the front counter and was told they were closed to the public for a special event. I told the person that I called yesterday and she said "And...". And they said nothing about being closed to the public. No apology, no regret, nothing. We were all looking forward to a fun morning on Mother's Day. Instead we wasted a bunch of gas and will not be returning to one of the few places that a family can go have some affordable fun. Is it so hard to keep a website updated or make sure employees know about special events? Either of which could have saved the wasted morning and gas. What a disappointment!!

But myself, I do not really use any of the above however I am aware that the above described attractions are available. My use of Highland is the tennis courts which most of the courts having been resurfaced within the last 2-3 years. There are plenty of courts here---17 to be exact-- plus some kiddie/ youth courts for beginners new to the game. The tennis center also provides you the opportunity to get your racquet restrung or take lessons---individual or group. The instructors at Highland are great at what they do! My knock against the tennis courts are the lights, and thus the 4 star rating. Otherwise it would be 5 star

There are so many women's teams that they split it up between day and night leagues. Not as many men playing, but still quite a few. This facility has been going through some renovations over the year and is finally, completely, open. The pro shop is really just an area to buy balls and hang out until your match if you're averse to the outside (why are you playing tennis, then?). They have rackets and other stuff for sale, but the selection isn't stellar. It IS clean and comfortable. The courts have a decent surface and are much better than other locations in town. I'm not a fan of the lighting situation here. The lights on the far courts are low so the ball disappears during your opponent's toss or when lobs are attempted. There are about 19 courts and a Round Robin every Saturday (unless there's a tournament going on), so feel free to try your hand. The Round Robin is fun if you're not too competitive. There tends to be a lot of beginners scattered about, so you never know what your competition is going to be. Overall this is a good facility with a LOT of courts. They don't sell beer...yet, but the BREC board has approved the sale of booze at the parks, so maybe soon.

No registration fees, no long-term contracts, pay day-by-day/weekly/monthly. This is the most flexible camp with the best prices I have seen in Baton Rouge. The staff here is phenomenal... family-owned and super friendly! Loooove them!! This is a great place for those young, aspiring gymnasts! We went there for a birthday party and was so impressed by the facility! I have never been to a genuine gymnastics gym! Not only does the facility offer birthday parties (which we went to), but it also offers open gym times, kids night out, holiday & summer camps, etc. Attending the birthday party encouraged me to sign my 4-year old up for gymnastics! She enjoyed the birthday party so much that she kept on asking me to return. Baton Rouge offers many things for kids to do apart from their parents and if you are interested in gymnastics in placing your child in gymnastics, I highly recommend this place! As for birthday parties, the attendant is very interactive with the children during the party and has them participate in several different activities the gym has to offer. Additionally, there is a huge playground up front that the kids absolutely love, so after they have cake and ice cream, they can get in there to burn some energy! See you at Elite Gymnastics!!

The courts were resurfaced, I guess, mid-last year. While a vast improvement from their previous state, the base of the courts is still in pretty lousy shape. There are quite a few spots where there are cracks or divots that could easily change the trajectory of the ball...unless it's me hitting it, which would result in the ball burying itself in the ground until friction of the surrounding pavement and consequential hole gravel eventually bring the ball to a stop somewhere near the earth's core. (um, that was a joke, I'm really a humble guy...I mean, some of my best friends are me) There are a lot of courts and they have a croquet field and shuffleboard, but the court conditions are really not perfect. One set of courts seems to be on a slope, so you're either serving uphill or downhill. Barely noticeable...but noticeable. It's close to my house, so I'll keep coming.
