Benson's Driving School

Benson's Driving School

This place is horrible. My older two kids were able to take their drivers course at Seacoast…read moreDriving School and it was wonderful. Unfortunately, the owner retired and our youngest was forced to go to Bensons due to a lack of other options. It was a terrible experience all around. Bensons is horribly disorganized - my kid finished the class weeks ago and STILL hasn't been able to get enough driving hours with them to get the required certificate. Benson's excuse is that some instructors quit so they don't have enough people to give all the students the requisite driving hours. So why accept so many students? Clearly, this place is all about the money - and the cost is outrageous - more than 50% more expensive than we paid for our other kids. They allow certain kids to get two slots each week but everyone else only gets one slot so it is impossible to get the required hours by the conclusion of the course. So we are having to try to schedule "roll over" driving hours which are hard to get - and Bensons refuses to accommodate the kids they've shafted if the student cannot submit their availability by Thursday of the previous week. Even the facilities and equipment are awful. They meet in a sweltering little upstairs room with no air, cramming in the kids. For the vehicles, when the regular car was broken or unavailable my kid was forced to try to drive their "back-up car" with a manual transmission - without ever having tried to do that before and no idea how to work the clutch and gearshift. I can't think of any redeeming qualities and am not surprised this company is closing down locations. Plus, one of the instructor drivers is a nasty, crotchety woman who harangues the kids and insults them so much that my kid came home from those drives upset and utterly discouraged. Totally unacceptable. I suggest going anywhere else and avoiding this place like the plague.

We've been working together for months now, and the progress I've made is honestly amazing. I used to have huge anxiety when it came to driving, especially on highways. It felt like something I would never get over. But Marco was incredibly patient, kind, and full of smart, easy-to-understand tips that made everything click. He helped build my confidence one step at a time. The day I went to take my driving test, he actually came with me to the DMV and let me use his car for the test, something I really appreciated. And guess what? I passed! He's also bilingual and speaks Spanish, which is a big plus for anyone who's more comfortable learning that way. If you're looking for a driving instructor who genuinely cares and knows how to teach in a calm, clear, and encouraging way, look no further. I can't recommend him enough!

She only wanted free help and not consulting support from all the people that were in her presence as parents. Due to the sale of the school and the lack of interest for 8th grade the upper school was closed. We moved our daughter to Windham Middle School and if it was not for a full-time tutor she would have failed math. This was actually "taught" by Lyn's daughter and another instructor within HA. Core concepts were never taught but lots of photocopies of old textbooks were used as teaching materials and homework. This would explain why people used outside math teachers while their children were enrolled. In 1st grade we had 29 students and by 7th grade we had less than 10 and of the 10 only 5 were from the 1st grade class. They should be ashamed of themselves for charging what they did with the level of education being so low that back to basics was required to survive in another schools system. Keep in mind my daughter achieved high grades at HA and even made Honor Roll and High Honors. Yet, outside of here she was failing. Waste of 7 years of education and money. A NH teacher of the year has left as well so they could even keep a few of the gems that they had on staff.
