There you can go sailing, windsurfing and kayaking or have a days relaxing fishing. Day and season tickets are available for the lakes - there are two, a large and small. The small lake has less 'traffic' on it and is a quieter days fishing. There are hiring facilities for the water sports and you can pay for lessons. We've been a few time to use the caravan and camping site located on the side of the waters edge. The pitches aren't massive but it's not bad for a weekend.There are good washing and shower facilities for all who are camping. They have a small shop but it's not got loads in for the camper, I'd recommend bringing what you need. There is also a bar but I thought it was a bit expensive. For an afternoon it's a nice day out - there is a fairly good play area, space to kick a ball, a walk round the lake etc. I think it's only about £2 to get in. Outside the park, there is the town of Market Bosworth, Shackerstone Railway, Twycross Zoo and Bosworth Battlefield. Every year they host events such as the raft race or Hinckley half mararthon.

Don't mind if I do…read more It was a little late in the day when my friends and I put together our annual camping trip and before we knew it we were stuck with only the first weekend in September. Camping in September? Well it's worth a try, we'll just need plenty of warm stuff and a strong constitution won't we? It was then that I remembered something from back in my Girl Guiding days - you can camp in barns! Camping barns are pretty much just tents made out of stone, with a roof, with a flushing toilet and a sink if you're lucky (and yes, Alstonefield is a lucky barn). The ground floor of this one has one big communal room with wooden picnic benches and a cooking platform and the whole upstairs is for sleeping. No beds, just a wooden platform. Luxury it is not, but utterly beautiful, rustic, quiet and homely (in its way) it sure is. The barn is literally in the middle of nowhere (though there is still some phone signal), with nothing much around for miles barring the farmhouse at the other end of the dirt track and the myriad sheep and cows. There's no electricity but plenty of nooks and crannies for candles. We were mildly unsettled when we arrived mid-afternoon and could already see our breath on the autumnal air, but this gave way in the evening probably through a combination of the candles, the humans, bringing the barbecue inside and the ever present and loving beer jacket. It wasn't half as cold as we thought it'd be - especially for a clear night. We had plenty of space to cook, eat, drink, dance, sing and shout. Camping barns are a bit of a revelation for me. Warmer and (slightly) more comfortable than camping, with no crouching, no damp, no trekking to the toilet block, no falling over guy ropes, no packing away the canvas in the rain, no neighbours. but still with all the good stuff, the great outdoors, the roughing it, the hanging out with your mates. You can rent the whole of Alstonefield for £84 for the night - it fits 12 people (it's £7 each). What a way to spend a weekend! Just bring your woollens in case.

None of them spoiled our weekend, and for the price, this site is a gem. The site has two fields for camping. The first includes both tents and caravans and includes power points. It also features free-range chickens, which we decided to avoid. The other field was dedicated to tents and has no electric hook ups. On the minus side: A water tap in the 'tent' field would save relatively long walks with heavy water cans. Whilst the new showers were very good and clean, the water did run cold at busy times over the May bank holiday weekend. The showers are new for 2011 and the water heating is due for an upgrade in 2012, so this problem should be short-lived. Note the old showers to the rear of he Hall still require a 50p payment in the meter. Not a problem for me, but if you're used to wet shaving, there was a lack of hot water and a mirror in front of a sink On the plus side: afternoon cream teas were served from the coffee shop on the lawn An on-site bar and coffee shop An on-site farm shop, with farm shop prices, but the quality to go with it 5 minute walk to the Kings Arms, Wing Within a stones throw of Rutland Water Free wi-fi available in the vicinity of the hall well priced campsite and friendly staff Overall, I would recommend this site to a friend, especially if you're an outdoor type looking to explore Rutland Water and the surrounding countryside. Birmingham one side and nice rolling green countryside everywhere else it's a great spot to pitch on for a family break. Site is definitely biased towards caravans with a number of new hardstanding pitches. Tent spots are limited to one field which has a bit of a slope to it, or a lower area with a series of dips (an old strip farming site). We pitched on the later, screened at the back with a hedge, easy access to the amenities. Having booked well in advance, the staff worked hard to keep four pitches together for our group despite a packed out for the bank holiday

If you are keen on big walks and want to have the privilege of experience stunning views, Clent Hills is a perfect day out. The standing stones are the highlights from this National Trust protects hills. I have been to Clent Hills in a very lovely day and I can tell even it's still considered a long walk, it's possible to enjoy the journey without getting too tired. There are also plenty of benches spread in the area and they are always pretty inviting if a rest is needed in the middle of the way.

In the winter especially the hills of Clent offer a great sledging point, attracting a million dog walkers and a million kids who head there to make the most of the rare snow days. Overall, whether it be snow or shine, perhaps not rain, Clent is a great place to visit, one that I definitely recommend.

I've been visiting this camp site for over 22 years and always had a nice time here…read more It's a very basic place, with one small toilet block and a couple of showers but it's cheap! It's not far from Bakewell (2 miles) and a nice drive into Buxton (10 miles) and there is a pub in Monyash that has an outdoor childrens play area and really nice meals (2 miles) The campsite is fantastic for the kids as it is quite far from the road and you can let the kids roam and play without worrying about them wandering and there are some woods that the kids can explore in and enjoy themselves. At the far end of the camp site is a family only field that tends to be nice a quiet (ish) as the groups field is further away. In all my family love to come here, relax, walk and play and it's greta value for money.

The toilets and showers have recently been refurbished to a decent standard and is ongoing with its improvements.Nice and friendly owners. Tree swing for the kids which they seem to enjoy. Nice views of Lathkill Dale and pubs in the nearest villages of Over Haddon and Monyash. Bakewell three miles from the site and Buxton 10 miles from the site. Matlock and Matlock bath within easy reach as is Chatsworth house and Haddon Hall.Tissington trail not far away. Definately worth a visit. Good value for money.

Visited burton caravans of…read morecanwell 2 weeks ago did a deal on a caravan took our caravan the week after to pick the other one up doing a 100miles round trip When they did inspection they came they came back and said our caravan had damp in the floor and would give us 3 to 4 thousand less on our 2018 they lies could not have tripped of her tongue quick enough they have shocking sales manner We have done a deal with a good firm with a good reputation Got what we where asking for and surprise there no damp in our caravan so people beaware don't be fooled by these robbing scum bags We hitched our caravan and come back with it but some new to caravanning might have believed them
