Lower Grange Farm is a Camping And Caravanning Certified Location that we've been going to for years. Twice a year we all roll in - about 8 caravans - for a weekend of fun.
The owners (Anne and John) have added this little venture to help keep their still working farm running and it's great. In the caravan field there are grass and hard standing pitches with about 8-10 electric hookups.
On the other side of the dry stone wall is a field where you can by the stream if you wish. The stream is very shallow and fun for the kids to mess about in in the summer. There are extensive fields that you can explore or have a knock about with your golf clubs, and they've also cut a patch in the next field where you can play cricket.
There's a kind of area in the middle where we convene to drink and chat and have a big roaring fire with wood collected from the fields.
There are paths from the farm to go off exploring further - into Ellistown, along the disused railway line that used to service the coal pit, into Hugglescote itself etc.
It's a really fab place where you can chill out and let your kids off to explore as you feel really safe.
Keep it a secret though as we don't want the crowds coming! read more
