I am not in the business of disparaging others, especially business that help the public interest. But I thought it important that I share my experience so that if you are like me, back when I scourged the internet for a little more information, you can make an informed decision.
Lower Columbia College is a good option for the few seeking the LPN to RN option mostly online. You will need to qualify and you need to attend whatever rural, non Uber friendly option that is available. The town the school is in does not have Uber. You are on your own. Thankfully, locals are happy to pitch in for a friendly, clueless face.
As a remote student, do not fall for the hype. This is the equivalent of those med students that go to the Carribean for an MD.
You have no assistance or options if life happens. They are a community college so the people who are responsible for helping you can switch policies up on you with zero regard to your situation or outcome. Advising may want to help you and overpromise but nursing here, like in most schools in the country, can be as pendantic and as punitive as they feel like it.
This is an online school affect. In real life, you may be able to appeal to a teacher that had to show up for you. Online classes mean they will give you those grades if you want but if something happens, they won't care. They don't know you. It makes sense.
I live in a tough, tough city and I thought this would be the easier option. I am completing my RN with no thanks to this instition who said they will consider extenuating circumstances but could not care less when I was hospitalized and damn near hysterical in trying to find anyone to point which direction was help.
if you are a person who is capable, but life happened.. don't feel bad. If you are on your last leg and this is what you can try for, DO IT. The school is legit and outside of the nursing department, the school is nice. Outside of the nursing department, they all go above and beyond.
Nursing is good living if you are good at petty bull sh. t nad gatekeepers. It really is. Long story short, they won't help you get there if you're just another one who has complications of life but they are an avenue if you make deadlines. That is more than most schools give you online and California can't keep you out if you need that online license there.
By the way, Ms. Tara Norton is hbic over there. She is kind and informative like today's AI would be in the field. Don't confuse professionalism with someone caring about you. You won't take it as personally as I did if anything happens. They won't care.
I wish you all the best and hope you take my grain of salt as a reality check. It is easier to just wait til you are ready that to try and fail. I made the mistake of fighting for myself with their "procedures" (they are BY THE BOOK and kick you out until it is their side that messed up. Then, they just change policy. I have proof)
I was told point blank I was not allowed to return the next year the way their nursing handbook explains.
If you want to be a nurse, you will get there. Just understand that the petty B S starts early. At LCC, it starts even sooner. I sent these people a lot of students so it is a big deal for me to say this. Whatever. It had to be said. read more
