I really love the location of Tay's studio in the Willow Glen area in a building designed for a bunch of separate hair studios. I've never seen anything like it before & thought that it was fun/interesting & intimate. Her studio is literally just one chair and a space enough for two people. Guests who come during another guests' slot will have to sit outside in the hallway. Tay at first canceled on me because she was having migraines due to her pregnancy but was so accommodating when she found out that I was leaving town soon and couldn't do any other date. She immediately canceled her cancellation with me and did my hair anyway. She also at first didn't have time to do my haircut, and only had a slot for color but was able to fit that in too. I really appreciated her flexibility. Tay's a really smart and quick-witted girl who is personable, relatable and easy to talk to. She's confident in her skills and I felt at ease in her hands. I wanted a rather Ash-brown grayish balayage with no orange/copper tones but find that my hair is pretty copper/gold toned post-hair session. I think this might be due to the nature of my hair however so I do not know if anyone else could have done it differently. My hair is definitely a lot more orange than I was hoping it to be despite me bringing in a picture. Perhaps multiple sessions would have brought my hair to the correct color? Nevertheless, I am very happy with my hair as I got lots of compliments & I am refreshed by the new color/do. I have't had my hair dyed by a professional in around 6 years and am actually even allergic to hair dye. Luckily, balayage doesn't touch your scalp so I was able to circumvent my allergy. Prices are very reasonable & setting up an appointment is super easy because of her online appointment scheduler. She definitely does hair for both men & women and even expressed that she finds men's hair a lot easier. So men, welcome! My friend one day told me that she saw a worker at MAC with beautiful hair, and that it was done by Tay. Her appointment system is so easy to use (styleseat) and she didn't ask for a high deposit to make an appointment like some other stylists. She was also super nice to talk to and because I attend school with her brother, we had a lot of laughs. She is a professional at what she does and uses high quality products on your hair. She also cares a lot about the health of your hair and styles it to her best without causing a lot of damage. My hair was box dyed black because my hairstylist before made my hair very streaky, uneven, and greenish. After i box dyed it i left it alone for over half a year and went to Tay. I also love to support local artists/small business owners :-) First, let me preface this review by admitting that I've never actually had a "real" salon experience. Growing up, my Vietnamese/Chinese mom always reminded her children that we should never pay anyone to do something that we can do for ourselves. So for years, I trimmed my own split ends -- that is, until I found Suite Meraki. I came to Tay with butt-length hair, the length it'd been my entire teenage/adult life. I wanted to chop it all off, but ultimately decided that armpit-length would be a good starting point before going any shorter. Tay made sure I was actually ready to make the change before moving any further with my appointment. I really appreciated the fact that she understood I was going through a big, dramatic change (that could've been traumatizing if I wasn't emotionally or mentally prepared for it) but I was so ready, and she made the experience even better than I could've imagined. The end result EXCEEDED my expectations. I received the perfect length that I'd requested, added dimension, and even the way she styled my hair afterwards made me fall in love with my hair again. What sets her apart from other hairdressers is that she educates you about stages of coloring hair & hair care etc. - which I totally enjoyed and appreciated. During summer '16, I went to a previous salon to dye my hair for the 1st time and I wanted an ombre but I ended up getting highlights instead but I did not have the time to get it fixed due to being away for college. After a rough fall semester, I needed some self-care and love. I decided to go to Tay to have my hair done and it was literally the best decision I made that year! She was so passionate about hair which made me really intrigued about my hair and how to take of it! At the last salon, I did not get educated about hair coloring at all. Tay is soo easy to talk to and you can ask her anything! You can tell from the extra detailing when she does your coloring that she truly loves what she is doing. Her customer service is top-notch and she even offer refreshments during the bleaching/toning! I went during December and she even gave me a small goodie-bag which was so thoughtful and festive of her! Session 1: I am a indecisive person and was not knowledgeable in the hair coloring world. I showed her pictures on how I wanted my hair to turn out but she was honest and informed me to the lighter shades that I want would take multiple sessions because Tay really emphasizes hair health during your hair coloring, which I really appreciated because it reflects how transparent she is and she wants to best result for each client. I got a balayage ombre & IM IN LOVE!! (Reference the before & after images) Session 2: 6 months later and with her hair treatment list, I was able to maintain good hair care and my hair was still colored but not as brassy as before. Since my hair grew out, I wanted a touch up at the roots as well as tone the rest of my balayage ombre that I still had. I also showed her a new picture of an ashy blonde color - she again told me she will go as light as my dark brown asian hair can go without completely damaging my hair. I went to Tay's Studio recently to get my hair updated for fall. She's a breeze to book an appointment with and is super sweet and easy to talk to. I started the summer with a blonde ombre, but by the time September rolled around, it was looking very janky and the ends were a mess. I decided to go for something different and wanted a nice subtle lilac-y rose color. Tay got it perfect! She mixed the color for me and made sure the shade was perfect before she applied it to my hair. I have A LOT of hair, but she took her time and I never felt like she was in a rush. For many years stylists have cut my hair "close" to the way I would want it but Tay is ON POINT.
