Staff were very rude and confrontational. Dogs appeared underfed and not well cared for. We were there all of five minutes and left.

He does have some separation anxiety but my other dogs do also, and this is a common trait with the breed. He was up to date on vacs and his medical info from all his vets was provided. He appeared well taken care of. I would adopt from this rescue again.

I scoured the internet for weeks and signed up for pet search engines, adoptapet.com and Petfinder.com. On October 30, 2014, a male yorkie mix posted on petfinder.com. He called out to me. His name was Teddy and he was available through LowCountry Animal Rescue in Summerville. I completed the extensive on-line application. They checked our veterinary reference and made a home visit. As rescue groups look to make the best match, we were thrilled when we received that approval phone call the next day. You see, while we do have a fenced in yard and retired, sometimes, the match is to a household with multiple dogs, or children ... both, of which we had neither. We went to a 'meet and greet' at the PetSmart on Rivers Avenue, the next day. Would Teddy like us? Would hub like Teddy? It was love at first sight and we loved him every minute he shared our lives until he passed almost 7 years later. We had huge holes in our hearts but knew the time was right to fill the void with another precious soul who needed a fresh start. Back to the search engines. The first email in my inbox on New's Year's Day was from adoptapet.com. I couldn't believe my eyes when Clarence's face popped up on my screen, up for adoption through LowCountry Animal Rescue. I had submitted an updated application a month earlier and was approved. As such, I sent them a message with lots of questions to which they responded right away. I asked for Clarence to come to the Adoption Event at Petco, Summerville, scheduled for that afternoon. Clarence was beautiful ... a yorkie-schnauzer mix (Snorkie). Joe and he started bonding right away. He was just who we needed ... and this 6 year old needed us, too. In no time, we were a family of 3, again, on our way home. LowCountry Animal Rescue is a small group of volunteers who foster in their homes. Their fosters come from shelters and owner surrenders. They are responsive and take care of the dogs, cats and any other furry kids that are in their care. Adoptions are on weekends at pre-publicized Adoption events around the greater Charleston area. An approved application must be on file. The animals come up-to-date on shots, Heartworm tested and neutered or spayed. Both Teddy and Clarence were crate trained and house trained. Looking to open your home and heart? They're on Facebook ... Google them and click on 'pets available for adoption' on petfinder.com. Please adopt ... don't shop. You'll be saving a life.

The online form was completed twice, I called multiple times and also sent emails. I never received a response (hence the loss of one star). However, I went to the shelter not aware they were closed on a Wednesday. I called and said I had attempted contact and really needed to leave the dog due to honest fear of him hurting my two small dogs. The staff were pleasant and did take the dog even though they were closed. The sweet women I dealt with were efficient and very kind. I understand not all the visits people have could be pleasant but mine was not bad at all.

It haunts me to imagine how scared and confused she must have been. Every day Jamie or Becky would take me through the shelter, knowing Cookie wasn't there but also knowing I had to see for myself. Their genuine concern and kindness made it tolerable. I felt as though I made two new wonderful friends!! I no longer go to the shelter. I couldn't keep hoping and praying she would be there. Then the pain just as overwhelming as the day Cookie was stolen!! Jamie & Becky thank you from the bottom of my heart. I know y'all have my back. I miss you both!

Atmosphere - I used the Google hours as they did not have a web page, well Google was wrong and they were already closed at 2:30 PM. Since the building was closed little hard to grade that. We did walk around until the number of cob webs became too much. Maybe not the webs themselves but the large spiders making them. Yes spiders scare me. I love in Reno NV where we have two different species that can kill an adult if medical aid is not given in a timely manner. Okay maybe not kill a healthy adult but will make your life painful. Animals - Mallards, some fish, a couple of turtles, and large spiders. Clearly we came for the heron and maybe they are seasonal birds but since I do not live here and there was no one to talk to about them, it was a let down. Service - Self guide nature walk around a pond in a very city like area. Future - Big fat no. 2 Stars to be fair as they were closed when I arrived.
