This is an awesome little spot in WV. I stopped in looking for a bite to eat and found way more than that! There is a small cafe with lots of vegan and vegetarian options available. Unfortunately there were out of many items but the pretzel and kale salad were actually amazing. They even had homemade mustard for the pretzels! Along with the small cafe there is an art studio with incredible works, an antique shop, and a little store with local beers. All of the items were so unique and cool to look at or purchase for gifts. A must stop if you are passing through! read more

I love the store it was neat but the experience was odd. My friend said Hello when we walked in and the worker didn't greet us back. There was a couple and it seemed like they were following us around the store silently. They were so close behind me I thought maybe they were trying to pit pocket my backpack purse. Lost River Trading Post is located in the tiny town of Wardensville, WV, and its presence alone has begun to transform the town to a stay-awhile destination. You'll find a wheelchair accessible ramp, a large deck to enjoy treats from inside, an art gallery, antique room, and lots of artisan items and American-made crafts. I was impressed to find cross-stitch kits from one of my favorite artists, Lisa Congdon, as well as Homesick brand candles, and DC-made goodies. We left with a chai-spiced almond butter, a rainbow magnet, and craft cider. I loved perusing the design-happy jars of pickled veggies, bitters, specialty salts, and ornaments. Just be aware that the prices are like what you'll find in DC, sometimes more -- a bag of chips and salsa for porch snacking will cost you an unbelievable 21 dollars (!). With that said, we'll be back for gifts, a cup of coffee, a bakery treat, a visit on the outside deck. My family met one of the owners and his pups and next time I hope to do the same! Covid-19 note: This business is observing social distancing, all staff are wearing masks, and there are hand sanitizer stations. I'm a fan of Lost River Trading Post! This place offers an espresso bar and a bakery, locally-crafted and American-made items, antiques, furniture pieces, dish collections, glassware, tools, farm, house decor, American wines, craft beer, and other handmade items. Be sure to check out the back that features local artists - it's kind of like a mini art gallery! I found a handmade stuffed hippo (I have a thing for hippos), created with recycled scraps of fabric. It was super cute, and I had to purchase it to add to my collection! I also loved that the line of items were unique and one-of-a-kind - so perfect! I tried their O.G. Cookie (chocolate chip and oatmeal raisin) and their Specialty Cookie (brookie with ginger, sea salt. chocolate chip, and tahini). You can get these warmed up or just have it to-go. Both were not too thick or thin and was tasty. I also found a small-batch popcorn item, so I got 2 of those. Sweet and savory treats - yay! Handful of beautiful wooden tables to dine-in and to relax. The staff members were friendly, and there are plenty of things to see and dabble with. They also pack your items well - the item that I bought was wrapped in tissue paper. I'd love to return to see what other handmade items can be found. If you're traveling through the area this is the perfect stop to grab a unique gift for someone. I almost describe it as a millennial's convenience store + trendy local home furnishings + gift shop for the cool kids. My favorite part of the store is their assortment of local craft beers and wines! They're all so fun and extremely delicious! This is the coolest stop in Wardensville so don't pass this one up. Not only does this place have nearly anything one could want or need, but dogs are also welcome inside! Prices are high. Only negative : ordered a chai and was told there was no whole milk. Asked for soy, was charged 75 cents. I'm sorry, but if you're out of milk, don't charge the customer ? Whole milk is extra ? Never heard of such a thing. 2% milk is no surcharge. Please consider that this type of milk can aggravate acne. I am accustomed to paying an exuberant price for lattes and chais, but this was unacceptable. This shop is likely frequented only by tourists due to high prices. read more

He also gave us a pizza recommendation because the Lost River Trading Post doesn't have a large menu. So, we bought a few post-hike beers, ordered pizzas, and had a great time. This place is a godsend! We stayed in a cabin at Lost River State Park and totally forgot to pack essentials... essentials being coffee and some grocery items (eggs be key). I also caught a minor cold (or allergies) and was in desperate need of tea and honey. All of these I found here, along with awesome chai lattes, galettes (apple, onion, and butternut squash!), biscuits, quiches, and pepperoni rolls. It was an added bonus that I found some cute food gifts to complete my shopping experience. What a highlight to this trip to rural West Virginia. read more

Such an adorable shop with lots of high quality and beautiful items. If I were richer I would buy all the gorgeous hand-carved wood furniture and Fiestawear here. They also have a very nice selection of WV foods, beers and wines. The shop is also part antiques shop so you might find some interesting treasure. They serve coffee and baked goods and while we were there the owner said that they are looking forward to having a liquor license in the future so they should have cool events coming up. We stopped in town and this was the most friendly place!! Great atmosphere, a WV gem-not to be missed!! All the food was homemade from scratch using local produce from their connected farm!
