Ideally, my first meal on this trip to Mexico wouldn't have been from a Quebecois restaurant, but it was a Sunday afternoon, football was on the big screen, and that seems to have trumped my desire for local cuisine. Wanting to keep my meal at least vaguely Mexican (which may have been my error), I ordered the fajitas, which came with mozzarella cheese (?) and without pico (?). The tortillas were actually decent, but nothing else about this dish worked for me. Service was good, though. In the end, I'm torn between 2* and 3*. Given that the Eagles won, let's make it three. read more

Absolutely appalling experience. We made a reservation and showed up at the time we were given, only to be told upon arrival that we were supposed to be there an hour earlier--completely contradicting what we were told when booking. As if that wasn't bad enough, the owner was unbelievably rude. Instead of attempting to resolve the situation or apologize for their mistake, they dismissed us completely, laughed and smirked as we explained the error, and acted as though we weren't even there. They made no effort to accommodate us, and the blatant disregard for basic customer service was shocking. The behavior of the owner was not only unprofessional but downright disrespectful and inappropriate. We left feeling disrespected and insulted. There's no excuse for this kind of treatment. This is NOT real poutine! The cheese is completely wrong, the gravy bland and thin, and the fries are frozen and not properly cooked (not crispy enough). The service was also pretty slow, and only cash accepted. Then again we are in Mexico... I just sorta expected better considering the owners are from Montreal and they list the poutine on the menu as "authentic Montreal poutine". If you live in Playa or spend an extended amount of time, this is a good place to go for some US or Canadian food. The Caesar salad is just OK compared to outside of LatAm but one of the best in Playa. The chicken club with bacon is actually pretty good and I could see myself going to this place in the US where there are competing US style sandwich places so doubly great that it's in Playa. The drinks are good but on the expensive side so if you're not coming to watch a game, it's not really worth it to get drinks there especially when there's another places nearby with better prices. If you have limited time in Playa, I'm not sure this place is worth a stop unless it's to watch a game. If you live in Playa and have extended time, it's decent if you're missing US or Canadian style food. read more

Québécois, you have your place, and your people give locals a 10% discount!!! You are inclusive, and I'm glad cool businesses come to Playa to be at home. I went several times to this place when it was located further down, but I think this new location suits way better the easy going attitude, and the success of hard working entrepreneurs. Free internet, relaxing music, sports, hockey jerseys, bigger kitchen, wider place. Good for drinking while watching sports. And some of the better looking washrooms in the area! Plus ultra: they are embracing the Mexican pop culture, so you can appreciate sombreros, luchador masks, Mexican mamacitas along with all the tough jerseys and hockey attires.... Such a good mixture. Owner told us to fuck off when we didn't feel like waiting for 20-30 minutes and left. We went back another time after, (we never should have) and the owner once again couldn't be more rude to us. Went to Los Tabernacos yesterday and was told it would be a half hour to get in, an hour later and the manager was busy watching the hockey game so we left and found another restaurant/bar and had a great time. Went back tonight because of the French onion soup. It was as always amazing. The rest of my order not so much. Ordered the Azteca poutine, brought the wrong one so she took it back, a few minutes later came back and asked if the Montreal poutine was ok? I said sure because everyone else was eating theirs. I asked "is it still hot" she said "YES" we'll when I got it, we'll not hot or warm. So back it went to get more warm gravy put on it. Helped a bit but question? is the cheese supposed to be melted on a poutine or just whole curds? Anyway I'll return for something other than their famous poutine. You decide. read more

This is a great hockey bar! If your in Playa Del carmen it's a must. Most sports bars food is just so so. But this place is the exceptions. Anything you order is made to be enjoyed not just get you through the game. From the delicious French onion soup to the sandwiches burgers and hotdogs. Make sure you order poutine whether it's your favorite from back home or your first time trying it. And make sure you save room for dessert! read more

AVOID. Terrible service. Stopped in as a single patron, ordered a beer and wanted dinner. Server never returned after delivering the beer. I got up and found him hanging at the bar and ordered a meal. The place wasn't busy. I waited another 20-25 minutes for a simple plate of spaghetti. Our new favorite sports bar in Playa. We were looking for a great spot to watch the Women's World Cup semi-final and found it. We were greeted warmly at the door by Michél, the French Canadian manager, who seated us in front of one of several large flatscreen TVs (they also have a big projection screen for nighttime events). The Canadian vibe is evident -- lots of hockey banners, flags, memorabilia. We ordered a bucket of four Mexican beers for 140 pesos (less than $2 a beer) and split a club sandwich with a side poutine (French fries and cubes of cheese smothered in a brown French gravy). Delicious. When the U.S. women won, Michél brought us tequilas on the house. Nice sports bar -- we'll go again for the Final! read more

Great find! Off of the Main Street, very mellow but great! Loved the red sangria and the Mexican poutine. They play current American music.

Owner was excellent. Went out of his way to find the NHL hockey game I needed to watch. Food and service was excellent

The girls are very nice, but the manager/owner was awful. I thought this was an authentic hockey bar in Playa, but he yelled at me and called me horrible names because he did not know the channel for the Sharks... A horrible experience. If you are a hockey fan, don't be fooled by the attire, there are better bars. Many locals were much more willing to help me. Don't give them the time of day...he lost business from California, and a die hard hockey fan. read more
