Been here a few times and it's always good! I got a Chimi and my wife got Pollo Jalisco and she said it was amazing! The seating area is nice and clean, the staff is amazingly friendly and attentive. There's not much open in Monmouth on a Monday night if you ignore the bars and fast food restaurants. Los Ranchitos provides an acceptable if not outstanding alternative. This place in a former KFC has a HUGE menu--7 pages of selections in smallish type. One entire page was for seafood so I quickly narrowed my decision to it. Pescado Yucatán was grilled fish beneath grilled chopped veggies. Mexican rice and an iceberg lettuce salad with guacamole, sour cream, and cheese accompanied the entree. The grilled items were tasty and nicely seasoned. Even the plain salad was enjoyable due to the fresh guacamole. The rice was past prime--dry and almost tasteless. Service was good. read more

This was some of the best food that I've had in my life! I actually ate at two Mexican restaurants while in Monmouth and both were phenomenal. The people in this Illinois town are lucky! This one is in an old Pizza Hut location, so the size of it isn't gigantic or anything. But what is gigantic, is the menu. It's limited on picture features, but it's already packed full and extensive. I ordered the lunch portion Los Ranchitos cheese steak. It was huge! Literally one of the largest steak burritos I've ever had. Remember, it was lunch portion?! I was half tempted to go back the next day for dinner and order the same thing, just to see how much bigger it can get. It was folded over, and served similar to a quesadilla, probably because everything inside couldn't roll into a burrito. The steak, onions and lettuce inside were spilling out. The cheese sauce! It was a bit thicker and darker than your average queso, it too was phenomenal. My husband ordered the lunch sized fajitas and requested no oil and they came out perfect. That's a small tid bit, if you like fajitas. Anywhere you order them request light or no oil, they are much better. He also requested hot salsa and he raved about that too. He's picky, so whenever he raves, it's an automatic five stars from me, even if I ordered the wrong thing. Luckily, here there was no wrong thing. read more

Visiting Monmouth from the east coast, there weren't a lot of dining choices. On advice from the hotel desk, we tried Los Ranchitos - and I'm glad we did. Good, authentic Mexican, reasonably priced and with fast service. The complimentary chips/salsa were good. I had the Ranchitos Fajitas (chicken, shrimp, and beef). It came sizzling hot with 3 flour tortillas (corn tortillas also offered). I ate every bite. Work requires me to start going to Monmouth frequently, and I'll certainly be trying their other menu selections soon. read more

People saying this place is "good" are delusional! It is GREAT and it's my hubby and I's favorite Mexican restaurant around! (It beats any place in Burlington, galesburg, etc.) Truly a GEM to Monmouth. The staff is attentive, friendly and punctual. The food is fresh and delicious! Haven't had great Mexican food like this since we ate at another restaurant in Chicago. I can't believe I'm just now posting a review, because we go there all the time! Wonderful service! I cane in with a group of 4 and we were seated quickly, served chips and salsa as we sat down. Even though there were lots of other customers we didn't have a long wait on food or service. We have a smiling face with every encounter from an employee. Good, really good. If your new I would try the Alan special. It comes with rice,chicken, and cheese dip on top.

Good Mexican food, and they have American fare for the less adventurous (children). The pollo encremado is my favorite there.

The burritos are amazing. The chips and salsa give me life. Beef burritos and Mexican rice is the way to go.
