Great menu OK food, I asked my wife to get me some tamales and when she brought the tamales to me, it had hair wrapped in a tamale, and there was one that stood out because it was on top of the tamale. They should try to do better instead of a refund. They did remake it unfortunately I didn't feel good about eating it so it never got eaten. read more

This is a Pineville Rebel territory eatery. After a winning game night Mexican food is basic. My friends and I have eaten here many times. This establishment creates consistent dishes. The elders in my community find this restaurant to be more of a Tex-Mex restaurant. The entrées are not spicy. Also, I bring my own hot sauce because the restaurant doesn't have any. Remember on Sundays there is not a lunch menu. The location is in the center of a strip mall connecting the parking lot to Wal-Mart. I always order queso dip. It never fails to satisfy. The guacamole appetizer tasted bland. Our entrée was cooked to perfection. The male servers are present and quick to help with any concerns. The chef's twist on the Mexican dishes to satisfy the communities pallets. Oh yeah, there are not any alcoholic beverages, but the sweet tea was wonderful. Our family's go to for Mexican food. We call it LoPo. Fast, cheap and delicious! The staff seem friendly although I don't think they all understand English. What a pleasant surprise in a world full of "strip mall" restaurants. A well staffed and organized gem that truly outshines its underrated location. The service is great and the quality and presentation of the food we received was fantastic. The tilapia fajitas with shrimp was so fresh Cooked perfectly with a little crispness on the edge of the filets and the plump shrimp along with the fried onions and peppers(including the additional fried fresh jalapeño I requested) were also cooked perfectly. My request for a small bowl of chopped cilantro was fulfilled with a great smile. A rare find and absolutely worthy of more visits. read more

I first came here when it opened a few years ago and it was pretty yummy, but now I see a few issues. The chips are hot and seem to be fresh when brought out, but then the salsa is weak and tastes like they bought it at the nearby Walmart. They also need more variety in the salsa they bring to your table. I'm use to getting a red sauce as well as green or an avacado based sauce. Otherwise the fajita's are good and so were the enchiladas. When I'm in the area and craving mexican food, I do come here. It's good for the Cenla area, but I just wish it were a bit better. read more

Got a recommendation to come here and I am disappointed. Pros: I was seated immediately. The place is clean. No awkward smells. The chips and salsa was ok. Cons: my waiter sucked. He took my order. Came back with the drink. Someone else delivered the food. Next time I saw him, he gave me the bill. Didn't ask me if I was ok, didn't ask if I needed anything. Just gave me the bill. I order a fajita quesadilla. My meal was suppose to come with guacamole I ordered on the side, never got it. The quesadilla was so cheesy it was nasty, they put some cheese sauce instead of real cheese on it. My beans and rice was cold. The only this that was good was the water. To make matters worst, I felt like he was kicking me out. I wasn't finished eating and he tried to take my plate three times. Guess I wasn't eating fast enough for him. Absolutely awful. Ordered take out. Got the queso con carne appetizer that was trash. Chess was very watery had cheap grounded up beef, got some shredded beef burritos with cheese equally as trash. Came with rice and beans looked like it had came straight from a can and microwaved. Also came with a side guacamole salad oh it was pathetic had lettuce straight from a bag and a tablespoon of Walmart guacamole in it. Don't do it to yourself spend your money elsewhere. read more

My wife and I went to college just down the road at LC. Between dates with her, outings with friends and lunch by myself, I ate here about once a week for five years. We have since moved to Denver, and have yet to find Mexican food anywhere near as good. Whenever we go back to Pineville, our friends there know that we will all be getting together at Los Portales at least once. LP has great chips and salsa, and excellent nachos, fajitas and enchiladas. I've never had anything there that I actually disliked; but where they really shine is their queso and tacos. LP uses white cheese (not sure exactly what type) on most of their dishes, and it makes all the difference in the world. I've never had better queso or beef tacos anywhere. This is also the only restaurant in town that makes sweet tea as good as my mom's. Combine all of that with an excellent wait staff, a great environment and very reasonable prices and you have a restaurant that we'll be visiting for a very long time. I just wished they would open one in Denver. read more
