Taqueria Orinoco - Quesadilla Maiz (MX $29)

We definitely overordered, but it worked out because we wanted to try a little bit of everything on the menu. The tacos were excellent, and I also ordered a couple of the larger specialty tacos. I think one of them was called the "Pirata," but honestly, everything we tried was delicious. They came with these small smashed potatoes on the side, which ended up being one of the unexpected highlights. I cut mine up and added them to the tacos--and even to the beans--and they made everything even better. The tray of salsas they bring to the table was another major highlight. All of them were good, but the white salsa and the chimichurri were my favorites. They added a lot of flavor without overpowering the tacos. I also ordered a side of beans for the table, thinking they would just be something extra to share. Surprisingly, they ended up being one of the biggest hits of the meal. They were rich, flavorful, and so good with the tacos and potatoes. There was a line when we arrived, but it moved along and was absolutely worth the wait. I would definitely recommend Taquería Orinoco to anyone in the area. Come hungry, order more than you think you need, and make sure to try the salsas, potatoes, There is an upstairs seating area that allows for great people watching. The place is big and bright

Everyone wants to be here, there is a never ending rush, and visually pleasing red and white atmosphere and decor. This is what a CDMX taqueria should feel like. Plus everyone was so cordial. The food was pretty good, but nothing life changing. The menu is a little unfamiliar for Americans used to dining at a taqueria in the states. But whatever you order, it will be good. Great selection of salsas.

While my physical body was aboard the airplane as the wheels slammed into the pavement at Benito…read moreJuarez Airport, my heart and soul were already at El Turix. The first meal of the trip is the most important. It sets the tone. The trip goes how that first meal goes, and I'd gotten so many passionate recommendations for El Turix, it became the obvious choice. I called the uber straight to the promised land, and hopped out with my luggage, into a run down, no frills interior. Just how I like it. I wish the written word could do any justice to how it smelled in here, but I won't even try. I can only imagine it is what a teenage girl feels when she walks into a Sephora. I ordered 4 cochinita pibil tacos, which is the only thing on the menu. Cochinita Pibil is a traditional Mexican dish that is slow roasted pulled pork. They pull the tortillas off the griddle and put them into this enormous pan of the pibil to give them a little bit of the juice and glisten from the pork juice. They then STUFF each taco, roll them up, and hand them to you on a plastic plate. I topped them off with the salsa verde and dug into them right outside. These babies actually exceeded my expectations. I was FLOATIN. Pork juice leaking out on every bite with flavor that can only be obtained through that traditional slow roast. It truly set the tone for the rest of the trip. This is the kind of simple, well executed meal that makes me grateful to be alive. IG @johnny.novo Tiktok @jnov__ Substack @johnnynovo

Very busy restaurant and located in a very lovely area. The staff was amazing and in sync. We started with some cocktails - the guava mezcalita and jamaica mezcalita and also the chardonnay that was very tasty. Here's what we had: -Tostadas de atun(tuna tostadas)- must get -Ensalada de Pulpo con patatas tibias con albhaca(octopus with potatoes and basil) - octopus wasn't very good and there was no flavor -Pescado à la talla Contramar(grilled whole fish with salsas on top)I would only get the one with just the red sauce, the green sauce didn't have a lot of flavor. This is very filling and enough for 4 people -Tacos de Pescado estilo Ensenada(fried fish tacos) - these were ok The dessert, though!! This is what the extra star is for - The Meringue with Fresas(meringue cake with strawberries)- OMG soooo good. Even after how incredibly full we were, we could not stop eating this. Delicious and so unique but with the classic flavor of strawberries and whipped cream. Don't forget to add a carajillo! À delicious coffee drink with coffee liqueur.
