Chicken enchiladas with green sauce
Traci E.

Wanted to mix it up in our Mexican restaurant go-to's and took our family here for dinner for a first. I had the chili rellenos, my husband had carne asada and our kids got chicken enchiladas-one with red sauce and the other with green sauce. The chili relleno was flavorful and very good, the enchiladas with green sauce were good but no one cared for the enchiladas with the red sauce. The red sauce seemed to have a lot of Tabasco sauce in it and it was finished with a mozzarella cheese which made it look more like a lasagna slice at first glance. Service was great and the staff very friendly and accommodating. They don't have fountain drinks, only bottles or canned drinks as well as agua de fruta natural, which we tried the pineapple and mango and both were very good.

Chilaquiles, don't be fooled at how good this looks. It's bland and low quality.
Chase S.

I had high hopes, ordered the chilaquiles crispy with everything. Came out soggy, the waitress couldn't really understand what I was saying to her. So I just ate it. It looks like a lot of food but the beans were paper thin layer. The sauce was ok, similar to a taco stand. The beef was obviously low grade beef with lots of gristle and fat. Overall they have a great idea but need to put emphasis on quality and quantity. For two people I was out the door at $32 and felt ripped off. Especially considering the location of the restaurant is high crime and run down. I kept looking out the window to make sure my car was still there. I was hoping this was my hole in the wall awesome Mexican spot.

The Barbacoa taco is tender and so flavorful. Always have to top with their salsas and lots of lime!

I always have to get a watermelon or cantaloupe agua fresca, and their chilaquiles are one of my all time favorite dishes. You can order them several ways, but I go with salsa verde, crispy chips, carne asada, and an over medium egg. They top it all with crema, and I always have to add some of their fresh salsa and lot of lime. It's insanely amazing!!! They have massive quesadillas, and the barbacoa tacos are on point as well. It's authentic Mexico City food, so I hadn't heard of a lot of the dishes on the menu when I first went. Everything I've had has been good, but those chilaquiles are life changing!!!

I order a menudo and it was the smallest thing ever it had about 7 pieces of meat

This place is so good. I got the carne asada chilaquiles. Their chips are homemade. Salsas are way good. This place deserves 10 stars

I paid $12 for a burrito (take out) on 1/27/24, & it was terrible. I had much better tasting burritos at Del Taco & Taco Bell.

The staff was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant was very clean. First of all, Muertos Cantina is a total vibe! The inside is so cool with fluorescent lighting, colorful decor and bottles displayed beautifully behind the bar. Even the bathrooms are worth mentioning! Each one is decorated differently with tons of bright colors. Seriously, each bathroom is like its own little fiesta sanctuary. Now for the FOOD! They start you off with fresh tortilla chips and a trio of salsas, and the chips were AMAZING (especially the flour chips). Each salsa had its own completely different flavor. The Red Chile Arbol had some heat, the Chipitle Lime Crema was smooth & creamu, and then there was the milder Tomatillo Verde, which was my favorite. Soooo good! We also tried the Agua Frescas. They were refreshing, flavorful and really pretty to look at. The watermelon was probably our least favorite, but to me anything watermelon flavored can sometimes taste a little watered down. The pineapple was definitely the winner because it was way more flavorful and satisfying. Then came the Elote Corn Dip. YUMMY! It had fire roasted corn, cheese, spices, crema, pico de gallo, cilantro and Tajín. It had so much flavor and texture. Definitely one I would order again. My daughter chose the Birria Ramen, and I think this might have been her favorite part of the meal. It had slow cooked beef birria, consommé, melty cheese and ramen noodles with cilantro and red onions, plus lime and radishes on the side. It had a little spice to it and was absolutely packed with flavor. She loved it! My husband ordered one of their burritos with a side of tater tots. The kid in him was VERY happy that tater tots were an option. And FYI the burritos here are HUGE. I ordered the Smothered Spicy Chile Verde Burrito, and OMG. It had braised pork in chile verde sauce with rice and refried black beans, wrapped in a flour tortilla and then smothered with MORE chile verde, melted cheese and chipotle lime crema. It was MASSIVE and SO GOOD! I honestly have yet to find anything in Reno that compares to this one. I would order it again in a heartbeat. And whatever you do, SAVE ROOM FOR DESSERT! We got the churro beignets, and they were fantastic. Covered in cinnamon sugar and drizzled with caramel and condensed milk... seriously, what more do you need? They were the perfect way to finish the meal. Muertos Cantina ended up being such a great first stop on our Utah trip. Fun atmosphere, really good food, huge portions and so many different flavors. Again the atmosphere set the entire vibe for our meal. Yelp came through for me again!

The breakfast area was separate from the rest of the restaurant which ended up in ordering being kind of strange. I didn't really like their kiosk system. I did think the ambiance was fun and nice. Sitting outside for breakfast was nice and I enjoyed how relaxed it was. The food itself was good. I ordered a breakfast burrito that was really tasty. The tater tots were plentiful and well made. All in all, it was a good visit.

The service was excellent and everything came out much more quickly than I would have expected for a large group. I had the chile relleno and it was the best I've ever had. Unfortunately, our experience with our server, Letty, completely changed our opinion of this restaurant. There were two main issues that made our visit frustrating: 1. We did not receive our drinks until after our food arrived, and we actually had to remind our server that we were still waiting on them. When Letty brought out our food, we politely asked about our two cokes and were told, "Give her more time." We felt we had already been very patient and only asked after our food had arrived. Waiting for drinks while eating a meal was frustrating, especially since the restaurant was not busy and was actually starting to slow down during the last hour we were there (around 8-9 PM). 2. While we were eating, Letty refilled our water and the table next to us, then continued having a long conversation with the neighboring table while standing very close to us. It felt like we were being completely ignored, and the lack of awareness for our personal space made it difficult for my husband especially to comfortably enjoy his meal. We understand that everyone has busy shifts, but the level of attentiveness and service we experienced was disappointing. We left feeling frustrated and unlikely to return after this visit and would NOT recommend this place to anyone.

I was pleasantly surprised by the decor inside, they have spent a great deal for this location. I ordered chips and salsa to start. These were not complimentary but when they arrived the salsa was fresh and unique. I was glad I ordered them. My wife chose the carne asada burrito. She raved about the flavor and could only finish half. I ordered a unique taco which had an authentic name this gringo cannot remember but it was built on a house made corn tortilla about twenty inches long and ten inches wide. Steak, Mexican cream, tomatillo sauce, freshly shredded lettuce and cheese. I've never had anything like it but it is awesome. The service was quick and efficient. Very delightful people. The check had included a 15% Service Charge so I was glad to see the options on the screen to add a tip began at a level that matched up with the service charge at a reasonable level. I only had one complaint, The music was a little loud. The sound system is great and I loved the authentic music but the baseline was pumping loud enough to hurt my ears. I'd recommend adjusting the volume or the mix to make it a little more comfortable. Overall I loved this experience and will definitely want to come again. No pictures, sorry.

They seem to be oddly near each other, and you can't really go wrong with either one. Parking was a challenge in the lot right next to it, but they also have a lot a block or so down the road (or is it up the road?) where I found parking. I got lucky on a weekday evening and there was no line and I was pretty much seated within 5 mins. Awesome. They have a pretty big menu and I decided on the Don Ramon tacos with Chicken which were delicious. I wanted more stuff but I had a big lunch that day and just couldn't overdo it. The Mezcal Margarita was good and hit the spot, but you're really here for the food. I didn't get the Mole here, but it was amazing at the other location and they have so many different kinds. I had seen countless social media posts about this spot, so we made a reservation online and headed over to the famed spot on a Saturday evening! STAR #1: The space is SO colorful, interior splashed with paint and colorful artwork - which creates the most inviting space! The interior is massive, offering a large dining room and a covered outdoor dining space. Upon arrival, we were led to the outdoor dining space - as the main dining room was being used for a party of some sort. BUMMER: The covered, insulated patio was HOT. Like 95 degrees hot. Thankfully we were shaded and the fans were turned on, but the movement of warm air, couldn't cool the room down, so everyone was sweating, including our drinks! HA! STAR #2: The service was so friendly and welcoming! Our server greeted us, took our drink order and brought us over the complimentary chips and salsa. She brought our drinks, had our waters refilled often and had assistance delivering all our food. Overall, she was extremely pleasant! STAR #3: I'm such a fan of the NA/mocktail movement and the drink menu proved to cater to us sober gals! I opted for an NA Corona which totally hit the spot in the 90-degree heat, while the girls opted for full strength house margaritas. They both said the drinks were strong but well mixed! BUMMER: I have to take a start off for the food. It was okay. Definitely nothing special and pretty bland, but okay. The chips and salsa were a great start; salsa was both smoky and spicy. I ordered the fish tacos which were entirely different than I expected, in that my fish was grilled with hardly anything else in the tortilla. Despite the extra fixin's (lime + slaw + sour cream mixture) each bite was extremely dry. BAH. The girls seemed to like their entrees - enchiladas and carne asada plate - but I found mine to be underwhelming. One item worth ordering is the sopapillas. Get a small order - as it comes with 6+ sopapilla triangles! The whipped cream and cherry weren't necessary, but the perfect pillowy pocket of honey filled dough, was the perfect way to end the meal! YUM! When in Salt Lake, I wouldn't go out of my way to return.
