This place was great! Surprisingly good for a Mexican place in Iowa. The queso was good and had a bit of a kick to it. The steak quesadilla was really good but I wish the pico and sour cream wasn't right on top and rather on the side. I also ordered sopapillas to go and those were pretty good too. We met friends here for dinner this past week as it was the halfway point for both parties. We had never eaten here before and I was surprised to see mole on the menu. Great mole is hard to find, but I found it here. The waiters were ever attentive and friendly. The restaurant clean, well light, and welcoming. Los Girasoles can compete with any Mexican restaurant in Des Moines and probably come out on top. I look forward to our next trip to Grinnell and Los Girasoles. read more

We went here for lunch and ordered off the lunch menu. We got chicken fajitas and a chicken burrito. The food tasted like it was made with love and was really yummy. We only paid $17 for both meals. Definitely a good price. The inside is cute too. Los Girasoles translates to Sunflowers and the interior has lots of references to the restaurant name. It's cute and clean. Cheap, fast and tasty, happy hour with selection of Mexican beer on draft and bottles. Salsa is good, along with bean dip that is also complimentary. Standard TEX-MEX fare is all OK. I took a picture of the churros and fried ice cream to show they do have desert. The desert is not on the menu. Best food in Grinnell! Surprised to find such good Mexican food in Iowa. This place is on par with any Mexican Restaurant on the West Coast. Everything, the food, service, price, cleanliness, and wait times were all well above average. I had the Pollo a La Crema and it made my night! Tacos were excellent too. It's right off the highway and open late compared to everything else in the neighborhood, so I'd recommend it. Good Job Los Girasoles. read more

The arroz con pollo and the Chile Rellenos were very good but the mole was too sweet and the fried ice cream didn't have very much breading (compared to the fried ice cream at El Molcahete, which had plenty of breading and came with a fried flour tortilla). They also brought free chips, salsa and bean dip at the beginning of the meal which were OK but not very warm. Overall, not quite as good as El Molcahete (RIP). read more

Giving it an extra star because unlike casa margarita, these people are on it! You sit down and they ask for drinks. When they give you the drinks, asks for food order. 15 minutes later food arrives. Nothing special but the staff is nice. The food is hot when it arrives to your table. They keep your drinks refilled. Been here only a handful of times but each time it gets better. read more

Update: on a 2nd visit, I rate this restaurant...ok. Not great, not bad, just middle of the road Mexican. I had a combo plate with a chalupa, enchilada, and chile relleno. Of these, only the relleno was notable. The other two were simply pretty bland - which is also true of the salsa. The waitress was great, the owners are nice - so I hope they up their game a bit. The other 2 Mexican places in Grinnell offer better, spicier, and simply more interesting food. read more

Stopped here while passing through Grinnell and we were very pleasantly surprised. The staff was very friendly and attentive. We ordered chips and guacamole and the #26 which included a chalupa, enchilada, and chile roleno as well as rice and beans. The food was very good and the portion was huge- more than enough for two people. The chile roleno in particular was very flavorful.
