There are some nice houses near by and didn't really understand. Once I got older I started going on my own. This was the nearest park walking distance. She would always tell me to be careful and not to talk to strangers. I really thought she was exaggerating on the dangerous part until... I went one day with my sister and my little brother. We took him so he can play for a bit. There was actually more kids than usual at the park. This little girl was playing in the tennis court and out of nowhere this homeless man starts to walk towards her. No one thought that he would do something since he didn't look gang related. He just looked like he was going to ask for money. Her parents were there and didn't do anything. He got way too close and by the time he was in front of her he pushed her hard!!! For no reason at all, he just pushed a little innocent girl. The parents kept him inside the tennis court and called the cops. All these people decided to help until the cops arrived. He was arrested immediately. Not only that but a lot of people come here just to smoke weed. Like really come on! The people are the ones making this park a disaster. The park has everything any other park would have. All the basic things. Also, my sister met the coordinator and she said she wa so rude. I have never met her personally but take my sisters word for it. If I ever meet her I will make sure to speak my mind. This park needs a lot of improvement. The sad part is that the improvements are not the equipment. The improvements need to be done on all those crazy and all those people smoking in fromt of the poor babies.

Whether it's a Laker or Clipper Game or even an Dodgers Game. The people are friendly and always welcome with a smile. I never hesitate to ask questions and most residents respond willingly. The food in the restaurants is delicious. Views are awesome too! If you haven't been to LA, please do yourself a favor and visit ASAP! I live in San Diego which is a gem too but I have my admiration and love for LA. So much history and art. Can't wait to visit again. With the Rams returning to town, I'll probably be back soon. Had a chance to explore it a lot more on MLK Day when we found out that Griffith Park was closed because of the expected high winds coming. We connected with the Los Angeles Bike Path using the Los Feliz Blvd and I-5 Interchange, and took the path until we were able to connect with the A-Line at Lincoln-Cypress station. It's a nice walk, sharing the two lane concrete path with bicyclists moving in both directions. Water was flowing, providing moisture to the willow trees growing right in the middle. There weren't many places to sit to admire the scenery, but did find a place to (almost) hear the sound of falling water from a very little cascade where there was a sudden change in elevation. It's an unusual sound here.

These storybook architecture style gives them the look like they came from books. The houses here are nicknamed and more widely known as "the Hobbit Houses". These houses/apartments are really rustic and cute! The windows and all the wood and bricks give them character! I love the wonky light on the pillar next to the driveway. The chimney topper is unique, tall, and interesting, too! The uneven shingled roofs are cool, too. I was reading about the interiors and the Conservancy's website states, "The apartments feature galley kitchens, vertical-grain boat plank flooring, and built-in furniture with hardware made from boat latches." If you are interested in seeing what they look like, there are pictures on the internet! Out in front of both front houses, there are ponds. The pond to the right has turtles in them. I think the other pond is just filled with water. I was invited by a resident to feel free to walk up the driveway, so I did! I was greeted by 2 friendly cats!! :) How sweet! In Dec. of 2014, the main house (front and to the left) was for rent for $2595.00. Supposedly, Nick Nolte rented one of the apartments in the back house. This is a pretty rare sighting of a home or homes with this storybook theme. I think they're cool enough to play tourist and check them out here in Culver City!

The projects here, also known as the Rancho San Pedro Projects, aren't as bad as some people make them out to seem. Now, would I say "yeah, go walk around at night"? no, I wouldn't. I can tell you though that there are far worse projects out there than these. A lot of the people that live here, have lived here for many, many years. Almost everyone knows each other or knows someone that knows them. Its a pretty tight community. The only issue around here is the parking, so if you're arriving late... good luck with the parking. It's an issue in most of San Pedro, but with a denser population here, it's more noticeable and harder to find parking.

After recently finishing a PBS visual documentary of "Lost LA," I was awestruck by how many…read morehistorical landmarks are missing from Yelp! It is so easy to walk or drive past important buildings, statues, or places of interest in a large city like Los Angeles without blinking an eye. One particular example is the Merced Theatre (originally named the Merced-Abbott Building) located in the original El Pueblo de los Angeles district. This was not only the first theatre in the city, but also a gift to cabinetmaker William Abbott's wife, Mercedes (who went by Merced)--hence the building's name. Together they had hoped to rival the other three-story building around the corner, The Pico House. Both buildings shared an interconnecting door which worked great for Pico House guests. Merced Theater offered live theatre between 1871 to 1876 until it ceased operations due to an outbreak of smallpox at the nearby Wood's Opera House. Here's where things get interesting... When the Merced re-opened towards the end of the 19th century, Victorian Sex Clubs were the only organizations that could afford the high rent of the building making it LA's first porn theatre. At that time, it also offered a safe gathering place to LGBTQ+ individuals through its hosting of masked balls. These costumed balls allowed anyone to socialize with one another under the safety of their concealed identities, in addition to have the freedom to dress in clothing of the opposite gender without fear of persecution. Beginning in 1897, the building was used as a lodging house for queer men. Now the building is apparently undergoing renovations to become the new home of Cityview, the City of Los Angeles public access TV station on Channel 35. Nonetheless, I wanted to share these fascinating facts and can't wait to go visit the building and peek through the windows. "Plaque Marker NO. 171 MERCED THEATRE - The Merced Theatre was built in 1870 and is one of the oldest structures erected in Los Angeles for the presentation of dramatic performances. It served as the center of theatrical activity in the city from 1871 to 1876. The theatre was built by William Abbot, the son of Swiss immigrants who settled in Los Angeles in 1854. In 1858, he married the woman for whom he would name the theatre, Maria Merced Garcia, the daughter of Jose Antonio Garcia and Maria Guadalupe Uribe, who were long-time residents of the Los Angeles pueblo."
