Im in the waiting room for 20 minutes, get ushered into the exam room. Dr. Campbell comes in, trims my nails and cuts a couple places on calluses with the same snippers , and gets me out in 2-3 minutes. Seems so hurried I'm afraid to ask more than rudimentary questions; like: how does the infection look? Is it going away? Then he says, "nice to see you," and it's time to get out. Last time he cut my calluses with nail clippers my skin split open in two places in the same locations. Every step caused horrible pain for a couple of weeks. I realize he's got a busy practice with lots of patients, and 6-week Medicare foot checks are probably not a great money-maker as compared to surgeries, but come on - he is getting paid, and my feet are important to me! Not going back

It's been eight months since my son's surgery, and I really wanted to write this sooner!…read more We had initial consultations with two Santa Barbara foot specialists and decided to go with Dr. Harrison. SO glad we did. His thorough study of all the reports, thorough examination of his feet (both were involved), and further questions resulting in more images, followed by taking the time to explain and educate, assured us that we would get the best outcome with Dr. Harrison. Everything he said jived with all the research I had done, as well as what I knew was on those reports (I couldn't say the same for the other doctor we saw, who had much cooler wallhangings in her office- and this created a challenge in explaining to my son who he should go with). I had researched and read that he would likely never walk normally again and that he would likely have to order specially made shoes to fit his deformed feet. In contrast, as of right now, although he still has months of physical therapy to go, 6 screws and a plate in one heel, and 2 screws in the other, he has been traveling internationally, is able to walk practically unhindered mostly all day, and he has been skiing. His gait is almost perfect and his shoe size increased by only 1/2 a size - Vans off the shelf - and he swims just fine! We can thank Dr Harrison for his amazing skills, for truly caring, for having the respect and personal regard toward his patients to explain, and for taking the time to get it right.

He didn't offer solutions, didn't offer guidance on pain management, he didn't say much in general. It was like pulling teeth to understand my options and what I could do. He was not informative at all. I since bought toe spacers (not his suggestion) and my pain went down from a 8 to a 2 which is amazing. I also followed up with another surgeon in town and now I fully understand my options and the road ahead of me. I do not recommend this doctor. He did the bare minimum with me and is very apathetic.

Can you give negative stars? Every experience I had with Dr. Garofalo and her office staff was…read morebeyond horrid. The fact that a patient calling gets put on hold five (count 'em, five!) times should be off-putting enough to make you look for another doctor, unless you like waiting, have extra reserves of patience and don't have any health problems, ever. The first time, I was just looking for a dermatologist referral, which you would think is relatively straightforward. Think again. I was able to get an appointment after about half an hour on the phone - this wait was just a taste of what was to come. Once I went to the office, I waited approximately 30 minutes in the waiting room, followed by 20 more in the examination room. I was seen by the doctor for about 3 minutes and shooed away. When I went for my annual, I booked I think 6 weeks ahead for an appointment so I could be the first of the day. However, Dr. Garofalo didn't feel the need to get to work on time (despite the fact that my getting to work on time was contingent on her showing up) so I got to wait in the paper dress for 45 minutes for her to show up. Once she showed up, she had to get settled in, so even though I could hear her voice I still had to sit there for another 5 or so minutes. The one time I was actually sick, the office girl told me that I could come in right away. After sitting in the waiting room for over an hour and a half, I asked if I would ever get to see her. The response I got was something along the lines of why should I expect to be seen when there are other people with appointments? I said that I needed to go to class and they told me that I was SOL. Wonderful. And not even a doctor's note for missing my earlier class. The last time I went to this office, I was looking to a renewal for my dermatologist referral. This literally requires the doctor to look at my face and sign a piece of paper. I waited 45 minutes in the waiting room and decided to ask how many people were ahead of me since again, I had class. It had been a rough week and I had a lot of other things I could have been doing, so my emotional reaction was probably disproportionate to the situation, but when I was told it would be at least another hour, I had my charts be sent to another doctor and never turned back. Do not. DO NOT. go to Dr. Garofalo's office if you want to see a doctor. If you want to read magazines for a few hours though, her waiting room is the place.

Two days before my appointment I got really sick and went to Urgent Care on campus. The doctor there was so nice and really took care of me. When I told him I had this appointment he said to go to it and he would consult with the doctor so I could have the best treatment. Dr. Garofalo was so rude and she didn't listen to me at all. I had to repeat myself often, and tell her which tests I needed. If the other doctor hadn't told me, I wouldn't have known them to tell her. I don't feel she cared at all, I feel all I did was waste my money and time here. __________ (I didn't want to write this as an update, because I don't want to hide the experience from my first visit.) I decided I should write an update of what happened a few months after my one and only visit. I cut my foot at the beach and needed stitches at the emergency room. They sent my x-ray to Garofalo, since she was the only GP I'd visited in Santa Barbara. The emergency-room doctor said the x-ray showed something embedded in my skin that looked like it could be glass, but was actually sand. Fast-forward over a week later, and I get a call from the Garofalo office. "Hi, we got your x-ray, you have glass in your foot." I mention what the emergency-room doctor had said. "Yeah, whatever, so you have glass in your foot." Ok, thanks. If I had actually had glass in my foot, it would've been nice to get that info when I'd actually needed it and not so far in the future it was useless. Further, beyond telling me this info, she had nothing else to offer: no suggested visit, treatment, or anything. Beyond useless!

Sorry, I don't look like your typical runner. When I called and set up my appointment, I was asked for all of my insurance info. No problem, gave it to her. I couldn't find my card this morning and when I arrive they say I would still be able to see the doctor and I can give them my card information when I get home. I was about to call my insurance company and get the id number then I reminded her that she took all of my insurance information over the phone. She says she didn't. Ok fine. I ask them if they can look my information up. They tell me they don't know how to do that and ask how do other doctors offices look up information. She also stated the doctor hadn't signed up with the insurance companies to verify patient information on the computer yet. That explains a lot. With all of the patient information they had on the counter space I could of looked up a couple of patients myself. She added my information to that file. I guess they don't know much about HIPPA there either. The receptionist rolled her eyes, and had a pretty bad attitude throughout the whole 45 minutes I was in there. It doesn't take much to properly train your staff. But when I met the doctor it explained why the staff is trashy. She's horrible too. Dr. Nelms comes in at 9:24. No introduction, no nothing. She speaks with the receptionist, then says with a scowl , "Never leave your insurance card at home. Ever." If that's the way doctors introduce themselves to their patients, I don't want to be seen. I told the receptionist I was leaving and the doctor chimes in from the back, "that's fine." If I could give this office zero stars I would. Bad form. I think I will suffer through the pain and find another podiatrist.
