Quite a treat!…read more
Tucked away on a quiet street corner, Cafe unter den Linden provided a lovely outpost for breakfast and a few teas and coffees. In true Hamburger style, even though it was raining and quite cold by normal standards...everyone was perched outside. Luckily, there are blankets provided to keep warm or pad the benches, so do grab one if you plan on staying for a bit.
I ordered something I've come to really enjoy: the German "brunch" plate: salami, cheeses, butter, homemade strawberry jam, berries, and pate. I also ordered mine with a soft-boiled egg, mostly because I like eggs...but partly because I love the little dishes and spoons they are served with. I still haven't QUITE figured out how to eat the egg daintily or without spilling shell all over the place, but I'll learn.
The best part? This plate was served with two fresh, warm rolls. Heaven.
My cappuccino was on par, as was the hot green tea I ordered after shivering a bit. The people in Hamburg don't seem to mind when it is raining and cold, but I am still adjusting!
Total for my brunch plate, capp, tea and a few coffees...under 20 euros. This is a great spot to catch up with friends, grab a light lunch, enjoy the sun on an off day on their cute patio, etc. I'll surely remember next time to order whatever the coffee drinks are that come in a bowl-size cup...it appeals to my American sensibilities!
