By sixth grade, my daughter had become deeply depressed at NGFS, and we were genuinely concerned…read morefor her mental health. Her early years were positive--she loved the Rainbow program, and we are especially grateful to Beth, who helped her develop a love of reading despite auditory processing challenges. Unfortunately, things changed significantly as she got older. In fourth grade, a tick bite during the week-long school trip was egregiously mishandled--whether due to a lack of protocol or a failure to follow one, the result is that she now lives with chronic Lyme disease. Our family has paid nearly $30,000 out-of-pocket for medical treatment, in addition to the high tuition we had already invested in the school. Academically, she was ahead in math, but when we advocated for her to take Math 1 in seventh grade, NGFS flat-out refused to consider it. After transferring to Greensboro Montessori, she was placed in Math 1 and earned a 96. She went on to earn As in each subsequent math course and is now in a senior-level math class as a 10th grader. Clearly, she was more than capable--she just needed a school willing to meet her where she was. My daughter ultimately asked to leave because she felt isolated and alienated. Although the school promotes inclusivity, she quickly realized this didn't seem to apply to students like her. When she tried to assert healthy boundaries with peers, she was often reprimanded--not for what happened, but for how she expressed herself. Ongoing micro-bullying from peers was never meaningfully addressed, even after I raised concerns. She thrived at Greensboro Montessori in 7th and 8th grade, where we found the environment far more supportive and attentive to real inclusivity. She is now thriving at Grimsley High School, where she has a 504 plan in place to support her health. To be fair, NGFS has a strong writing curriculum in the later elementary years, and my daughter's writing skills like owe much to those foundational years. But it's hard to reconcile that benefit with the emotional and physical toll she experienced. If I had to do it all over again, I would have moved her by third grade.

Their preschool, A Child's Garden, is appalling & the administration doesn't seem to care!…read more Ive been in early childhood education for 18 yrs & within a week of being there, i could see that what this school claims to be is a lie. I was told by 3 different staff that i could stay with my 3yr old on his 1st day because he has some seperation anxiety & sensory issues. When the 1st day came, they wouldnt let me in & wanted me to drop off at the gate and leave. Then they told us parents are not allowed on the playground or inside the classroom. A vast difference from being told before school started that i would be able to "stay in the classroom as long as he needs". I finally get to go in my sons room & I observe that hazardous chemicals are kept in their cubbies where children can reach them & there are exposed outlets around the room. I consistently observed all 4 teachers in one spot on the playground talking to each other, not supervising or playing with kids. Teachers wouldnt greet parents when they arrived & continued to talk to eachother instead. I'd recieve negative or vauge answers when i asked specific questions about my sons day. When they told us hand foot & mouth was going around the class, I asked what do they do to reduce the spread that they don't already do daily? Admin reported: "our teachers dont wash toys" "they dont have time" & the cleaners only use a disinfectant spray daily. The classroom is grimey and toys are dirty! The teacher said my son had trouble opening his lunch & spilled his food on the floor. She gave him what was left over from his AM snack, which wasn't enough to be a meal, so he was STARVING when I picked him up! Another day he had a scrape on his knee & I asked what happened & the teacher just said "I don't know" "he didn't cry, so I dont know". My son always came home with dirty hands, face and crusty nose. They spend the entire day outside & play by themselves while teachers socialize with each other. My potty trained son had frequent accidents at school to which the teacher said he just wasn't telling them when he needed to go. It turned out that they dont take the kids potty at regular times, causing more accidents to happen. Only one teacher has some Early Childhood Education, not "extensive education and experience" like they claim of A Child's Garden. To top it all off, they took my 3yr old on a bus, off the schools property, a mile away for a "field trip" and did not tell me!! I went to admin with my concerns & they made excuses & offered no resolution. I emailed admin and stated I was pulling my child out of the preschool & why i was doing so, i did not even receive an email back. In my professional opinion, the staff at New Garden put on a facade that they are a great preschool that offers so much, but it isnt true. There is no evidence of it. Instead there is safety & health issues galore. If youre currently looking for a center or have your child enrolled here, please ask more questions and pay close attention, you will easily see for yourself! There are NC state websites that tell parents what to look for when choosing a pre-k, (ncdhhs) look it up and educate yourselves!

I have been coming to the Yanceyville blood donation center for more than 10 years. It is very…read moreconveniently located within 1 mile of my bestie's house, who also happens to be my long-standing blood donation buddy. The staff has always treated us with kindness and professionalism. They take great care of their donors through every step of the process, even if you're deferred for one reason or the other. Special shout-outs to Elizabeth and Star, who took care of us during our most recent donation. The check-in process is very easy, especially if you made an appointment in advance. You can schedule easily through the Blood Donor app. However, they will gladly take walk-ins as well. You can make check-in even shorter by completing your RapidPass ahead of time, which typically hits your inbox first thing the morning of your expected blood donation. You must complete this on the day of your appointment. After check-in, a staff member completes a private health history and mini-physical to determine whether you are eligible to donate blood. Your temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and hemoglobin levels must all be within range to proceed with donating. If any of your values are initially out of range, you will be given a second chance to retest with a different staff member. For example, my pulse was above 100 when I was initially screened during my most recent donation. After sitting quietly for several minutes, a different staff member checked my pulse again, and it fell below 100, so I was eligible to donate! Pro Tip: If you have low hemoglobin (the minimum for women is 12.5 gm/dL), which I have been deferred for in the past, try taking a daily multivitamin at least a week before you're planning to donate. Drinking orange juice with this supplement can also increase absorption. A hand warmer around your thumb is another hack to help elevate levels. You should also drink plenty of water in the days leading up to your appointment, so you're well hydrated. Once you pass the screening, it's time to kick back for the easy part! If you're donating whole blood, the process takes about 8-10 minutes once the needle is inserted. They have TVs in the donation room, so the time passes quickly, especially if you're trying to race your friends to see who can donate the fastest. After donating, you are strongly encouraged to enjoy a snack and a drink while resting in the canteen area. Their snack game is usually pretty strong, with lots of sweet and savory options. I enjoyed some Welch's fruit snacks, Cheez-Its, and water while waiting for our other friends to finish donating. They typically advise waiting about 10 minutes before leaving the premises. After donating, it's very important to drink extra fluids and avoid alcohol consumption for the next 24 hours. My favorite part is that you cannot do any heavy lifting or vigorous exercise for the rest of the day. I highly encourage donating blood with a friend, so that you can increase your good deeds even further! Each donation could help save at least one life, and I can't think of a better reason to give. With the current critical need for blood, the American Red Cross is providing the additional incentive of free A1C testing and $15 e-gift card to a merchant of your choice in the month of August 2026.

As a O+ blood type, I can help so many + people. My friend group likes to come together to donate when our schedules align and then go out for lunch together to celebrate. The process hasn't changed much from what I put below except how they test your iron/hemoglobin. Good news they don't prick your finger anymore, now they use this machine that wraps around your thumb. No pain at all. It takes longer and the reading is a bit inconsistent. Pro tip- heat your hands up before coming in as that helps you get a higher reading (need a 12.5 to donate as a woman). If you score too low first time they will allow you to try the other hand. The staff is all great and makes the process as painless and quick as possible. The snack game here has gotten even better as have the incentives from vendors as the need is so great. Hello everyone, We…read moreare so thrilled to finally share our heartfelt experience with Growing Years Early Childcare Education Center in Burlington, NC. My wife and I are older parents--we had our first baby during the height of COVID. She's what you'd call a "COVID baby." Like many new parents, we were cautious, nervous, and eager to find a place that felt not only safe but nurturing. When our daughter started at Growing Years at just nine months old, we had no idea how deeply this center would impact our lives. From the very beginning, the love and care they poured into our daughter was unmistakable. This wasn't just a daycare--it was a second home. The staff caught her very first steps--a moment we'll never forget. They've been there through every milestone, and now, incredibly, she's about to graduate and head into elementary school. What sets Growing Years apart is something that's rare in childcare today: consistency and love. There's hardly any staff turnover here, and that's not a coincidence. The leadership takes care of their teachers and caregivers, and that care trickles down to every child who walks through their doors. The result? A team that's experienced, passionate, and truly connected to your child's development. As parents, security and communication were top priorities. Growing Years delivers on both. Their camera system allows you to check in any time, giving you peace of mind throughout the day. And when those inevitable bumps and scrapes happen (as they do with young kids), their communication is prompt and thoughtful. They'll call, email, and even sit down with you face-to-face to ensure you understand what happened and how it was handled. That level of transparency and compassion is unmatched. We now have two children at Growing Years. Our son currently attends, and he receives the same love, structure, and joyful learning experience that helped our daughter thrive. If you visit the center, stroll down the wall of fame--you'll find our daughter's photo there. It's not just a picture. It's a symbol of our family's deep connection to this place and its people. We wholeheartedly recommend Growing Years to any parent looking for a center rooted in compassion, high-quality education, and a true sense of community. This is more than a childcare center. This is the foundation for a lifetime of learning and love. With gratitude, The Tysons

I personally just do not think its safe for kids to be playing with a lot of other kids on the concrete area. The director was never friendly with our family - they have received a new one now and hopefully she will be better. BE aware that it is very expensive - you are looking at paying any where from 250 to 280 dollars a week. I am not sure it is worth that when most teachers just let the kids play all day vs teaching them something that will get them ready for Kindergarten.
