Sure, we more or less mastered the fast casual movement with spots like Chipotle and Noodles & Company, but we haven't seem to have perfected a place like Leon yet, which has for years now been among my favorite chains in London. Fortunately, the Heathrow Terminal 3 location doesn't drop the ball. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? For an airport location, the T3 Leon spot does a fantastic job of replicating the proper stand alone spots scattered across the city. Service is snappy even when the lines get lengthy, and the folks behind the counter maintain their charm. The one notable downside is that the menu is pretty severely reduced, and I was disappointed to find that several options were missing from what I'd spotted in the city a day prior. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I was fully expecting to pay ten pounds plus given I was at Heathrow; so you can imagine how far my jaw dropped when I saw that my Chicken Hot Box came in at under seven pounds for a good portion of grub. Great deal. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? This was good stuff - fresh brown rice with fresh and flavorful chicken accompanied by cabbage and a garlic aioli that brought it all together nicely. Spot on. Dual Stars Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? I love Leon, and would gladly eat there daily, but this location loses a star for having the reduced menu. No Star Granted.

Stopped at Leon before my flight back to the US. They had a selection of quite reasonably priced (for London) items ranging from poached eggs, porridge cooked with milk, to smoked salmon muffin. The girls behind the counter were so nice. I mean, they were working 7am Sunday! Bless their hearts. A good sign of whether it's a good restaurant is whether the airport workers eat there. In this case, all the bobbies were grabbing their morning teas/ coffees here. Very good sign as those fellas are pretty disconcerting! Only minor criticism is that the porridge is quite rich - cooked with lots of cream or milk - tasty as it maybe, I am a lactose fiend and my tummy was struggling a little on the flight.

I'm guessing that you can't leave England without getting in at least one serving of good ol' fish…read moreand chips. So when the family hosting us asked what we'd specifically like to try in London before we headed off to the next adventure...I quickly replied that we'd really like to have the staple fish and chips as a meal. They were more than glad to oblige and pointed out a place nearby that was known to prepare it well that also came in gargantuan portions (fitting for a king). I didn't immediately believe the gargantuan part but was most definitely excited about having fish and chips the English way (not that it really mattered but was something I'd always wanted to strike off my bucket list). But lo' and behold, the moment I walked with the sweetest child and her father (who was friend to us) and the stories she told of how famous these chips were...I found myself facing a Chinese fortress. You've got to be kidding me. Café De China? This was *the* place that boasts of amazing English fish and chips? Did the factories in China stop churning out products for the rest of the world and decide on (once again) producing fast comfort food for the rest of the world? I truly was momentarily shocked but the way the little kiddo (sure was darling and sweet can be) just reminded me that *these* were legit food - Chinese or non-Chinese, lol. So I agreed to set aside all mannerisms and waited patiently like a dog having a treat on her nose. These be good food after all yeah? Well, come pick up and witnessing the amount of food that went into the packaging...they didn't disappoint. It was amounts fitting for a king. It was enough to serve a whole village if I were to describe it right. My fork that was on the dinner plate that it was served on later looked ill-fitting - like a teaspoon used for a main course. Yeah, good ol' Chinese way of giving you ENOUGH that you'd never complain again. Well, I'm not complaining, lol. BEST freaking bang for the quid so far. BEST freaking BANG. NOTE: I actually was impressed enough with their fish and chips as well as their following (considering that there was enough English-folks ahead of me when I queued up to pay) that I decided to stealth back later when the lady was sleeping to try a few of their Chinese dishes. Well, they didn't impress like they did their chips. Boring at best...but hey, their staple rocks off the sock so whatever...4 stars and a fan I am!

This was my first time ever at a Nando's and I'm not even going to lie, I loved it. If you're like…read moreme and have never been, Nando's does rotisserie style chicken with their own special peri-peri sauces that range from mild to wild (sort of). If you don't like chicken, they do have some healthy vegetarian things for you to check out. But you're here for chicken right? So when you come in, they'll give you a table & menus. When you decide you order at the counter and pay, and your food will be brought out. Things like silverware, drinks, sauce/condiments are self serve. I love that they have a hand wash sink right in the middle of the restaurant. It's great for cleaning up if you've gotten elbow deep in your meal and honestly, we can all use an extra hand wash or two, right? Also love the fact that you have beverage refills (almost unheard of) and ICE - and it's the very best chewable pellet ice. I opted for the 1/2 chicken "hot" with 2 sides (rice and peas) as recommended by the friendly staff and honestly it was excellent. My chicken was juicy and full of flavor. I appreciate that along with some spice heat, there was tons of flavor in the rub and sauce. We liked it so much that we bought some of the rub and sauce at a local Tesco to take home. Staff was super friendly and nice, the place was very clean and you can get beer or wine to make your visit extra cheeky!
