Marrick Homes - Clarks Rest. I moved to the SMD area in Feb 2019 from Huntsville, AL. After being…read morehere for a number of months, I decided to pursue purchasing a home for myself. I really liked the Leonardtown area so I decided to build a new custom home in Clark's Rest which was being offered by Marrick Properties. I contracted to build the single story Lusby home whose design I really liked. Seeing that this home was my first new home ever, I elected to do many custom modifications to the original design to make it more to my liking. Marrick started construction of my home back in Oct 2019 and it was finished 6 months later in Mar 2020 right as COVID -19 hit bad. Funny thing is, I closed in the parking lot and wasn't allowed into the escrow office due to COVID-19 fears but no problem. Anyway, while my house was being built, Marrick typically excavates a huge hole for the homes foundation and then sets and pours the foundation walls and floors (this process is interesting to watch if you've never seen it done). Anyway, after the foundation is poured, Marrick typically backfills the previously excavated soil -or clay in this case- to be against the exterior foundation walls using either a skip loader or dozer. Unfortunately, this is where some of my quality problems with Marrick began. After being in my new home for 30 days, I filed my list of defects with Marrick in April of 2020 of things needing to be fixed or attended to. In this initial list I mentioned -among other defects- the development of various sink holes in my yard and around my property. At that time, some interior home issues were addressed by Marrick, but the sink holes in masse were ignored by them. In the following months, I sent additional emails to Marrick inquiring as to when the sink holes -and the other missed issues- would be finally addressed. Sadly, all of these requests were never satisfied but were met with a lot of promises and email exchanges, but little else. I again mentioned them (sink holes and other quality problems not addressed from my 30 day list) in my 10 month list submittal to Marrick. In the intervening months from the 30 day to the 10 month time frame, the sink holes had progressively gotten worse as the clay soil around my home continued settling which further exasperated the sink holes issue. It is now over 1 year that these issues have existed and Marrick has yet to address them or even acknowledged them here at the development. I have literally send dozens upon dozens of emails asking and begging that Marrick fix these problems as well as other quality issues with my home. The superintendent here, Joe Rieman and the owner Marvin Oursler have both been copied in on these emails but I have yet to hear from either one of them after 1 year. Unfortunately, with the housing shortage being what it is, Marrick is busy building new homes to sell to other customers at maximum profits but refuses to satisfy existing customers and the quality problems of the homes which Marrick built and sold to them. I have posted numerous pictures of my yard and the sink holes here on yelp with captions as to what they are. Please review them and think twice about purchasing a home here or from Marrick in general. The perception I have is that they are real quick in taking your money, but are real slow to fix problems they've created with their building processes. If you do decide to build a home here in Clark's Rest or any of Marrick's other housing developments, I'd highly recommend that you add specific wording into the purchase contract that states that Marrick will ensure that any and all sink holes developed as result of the building process will be corrected by Marrick as they develop or within 30 days of being formally notified. I'd like to add that I really like my home and the way it's laid out. I like the rear entrance garage and the custom changes I've incorporated into it. However, these sink hole issues and the blatant, deliberate lack of response from the superintendent here and the owner of the company has left a sour taste in my mouth and tarnished the joy of having purchased a home the way I wanted it to be. Thank you reading this and take care.

In February 2018, we met with Mike Jacques to consider building our dream home in Clarks Rest. We were so satisfied with all the help we received, because we changed a lot of the floor plans to meet our needs. Mike came up with some great ideas for us! We have owned homes before, but have never built one. The experience has been wonderful, although the weather did not cooperate last summer for our deadline, we were happy with the end results. We are coming up on our 10 month occupancy, and although there have been some minor problems (which is to be expected) we contact Diana Penn and she makes sure all are needs are sufficiently met and taken care of within a reasonable time. She is very pleasant to work with! We would definitely recommend Marrick Homes to anyone wanting to build a great home for a great price. Frank and Donna Pfneisel
