Great service; really friendly and helpful. And amazing tasty food; I had the Rockin Ribeye steak with delicious garlic butter - thank you!

We made reservations for our dinner and this place definitely holds you to the booked timeslot. We…read moredecided at the last minute to go earlier since our wanderings in Christchurch took us closer to Bessie versus backtracking to our hotel to wait. We were greeted immediately upon arrival but redirected to the bar until our reservation time. We didn't order any drinks but just hung out discussing this interesting policy. A couple popped in and were turned away since they didn't have a reservation. At this point there were maybe four tables seated and two groups waiting in the bar. Most of the restaurant was still quite empty. When our time finally arrived we were then seated, our server greeted us and was quite friendly. She offered to hang our jackets but we opted to keep them. She also checked up on us throughout our meal so good attention. The ambiance was on the darker side with the deep wood colors and black seats. Quite fitting for a steakhouse but oddly we didn't order any beef that night. Focaccia was served with four generous sized slices along with a side of olive oil. It was airy with a nice crisp crust. The market fish was tarakihi, popular in NZ, which was pan fried and crisp. It was a rather plain presentation on top of puréed cauliflower and sautéed spinach but tasted quite good. The lamb was cooked nicely to a pink medium and was tender. The chosen side sauce of black garlic and mushroom made it even better. Loved the bone marrow as well. Check was brought to the table and we headed to the front to pay. Overall a bit on the pricier side for what we ate.

Waited for mains almost 45 minutes after appetizers. Server never came to check on the meal status after mains were delivered. Wagyu was so hammered it had not one bit of fat left on it. Driest wagyu I have ever had. Might as well have ordered the regular cut. Likely not worth the price, and while we are from out of the country, if we lived here we would not return. Unfortunate, as the ambiance is great.
