I'm on a quest to try all the new lokma places that have opened up in Alacati this year. There seems to be a lokma craze going on this year as many reinvented lokma shops have opened up (I count three in Alacati so far). Lokma is traditionally made by frying a dough batter and then letting the fried donuts sit in simple syrup. These new shops are modernizing the lokma to include a filling and a topping.
Lokmangia is located not in central Alacati but on the Hacimemis route which Alacati has expanded into. What I enjoyed about the lokma at this location is that they made the lokma to order, a lot of times the lokma will be pre-fried so that there is less of a wait time. The result was a lokma that was extremely crisp and warm. The downside of the lokma being made to order is that we waited a good 15-20 minutes for our order to come out. Not a big deal since one of the best past times in Alacati is sitting outside and people watching. Lokmangia has a bench outside the cafe which is perfect for sitting and lounging.
I had my lokma filled with a creme filling and topped with bitter chocolate. The result was a taste that was more reminiscent of profiterole than lokma. I paid 20 liras for six lokmas which was cheaper than some of the other lokma places in Alacati! Overall enjoyed my experience and tasty foods, would come back! read more
