BUT. Sofia's Cafe has proved me otherwise. This cute cafe & tea shop that recently relocated from Kronberg is such a delightful find. The interior reminds me of a typical British tea time joint that is utterly beyond adorable and quite dainty. The seating is plentiful and the larger windows offer the perfect amount of natural daylight to illuminate this quaint place. I ordered the blueberry latte (because I like to try new things, I mean c'mon!) and it was delicious! It tasted like a blueberry milkshake. Or an Asian milky blueberry chewy candy. We also ordered the Honey Toast which comes with a giant dollop of fluffy whipped cream & drizzle of honey and the strawberry vanilla cake which was equally delicious and so ever moist. I've been living in Germany for close to 3 months and am a dessert afficionado and honestly have not tasted anything that delicious here until now. Sofia's Cafe knows how to do desserts right. They were so good that I got a slice of oreo cake and carrot cake to go (I'm a fatty- don't judge). Both were divine and also not like the uber sweet American cakes back in the US. Their flat white was smooth and perfectly balanced. The milk was velvety and I wish I hadn't gotten take away and walked away or I would have ordered another. I am so happy to see places like this popping up. I, personally, take insult to when sugar is put in coffee (sorry Deutschlanders), but most coffee in this country needs sugar or something to help it. It is rare that I find places like this that offer such an ideal espresso that it does not need sugar. Take mind, I will NEVER go to a place where I'd need to put sugar in my coffee because that is a surefire indicator that the coffee sucks. But then again, I was a barista in Scandinavia for quite some time years ago so I am a bit of a coffee snob. No sugar needed at Kaffeekommune. The best thing about this place is that it embraces simplicity and the products they sell. They won't serve a subpar product. They also offer efficient and kind customer service. I haven't found a better espresso or latte than here, and if you have achey cakey pangs, they have a nice selection of muffins and cookies etc. There's even free water in a jug on the counter. It's self-service, so no waiting around to order and then pay, and you can get a card to collect stamps and get a free coffee, you can then collect the cards to get a kg of Hochland coffee. You'll find it up the side street, by Karstadt, in the pedestrian zone. You can read a magazine or today's newspaper, there are chairs and tables outside and in winter there are blankets for your knees and patio heaters, to keep the top of your head warm. It's all very civilized.
