My daughter has attended Logrea Dance Academy since was 5 years old. She is now 12 and I have nothing but positive things to say about this Studio and the Logrea Family. She is taking 14 classes a week and never complains about going to the studio. This studio is like a second home for her. Mrs. Logrea is still the heart and sole of the studio and continues to set the bar high for her students. Nick Logrea is always present and always makes time to talk things out and ease any concerns I have. Mr. Logrea is still teaching ballet classes and is one of my daughter's favorite teachers (He truly cares about hos students and always has a smile on his face when he walks into the studio). All of the teachers at this studio, especially Ms. Rebecca, Ms. Natalie, Ms. Jane, Mr. Billy, Mr. David, and Mr. Josh are all amazing and have helped my daughter grow so much this year! The training at this studio is unmatched. The Spring Concert, the Gala, the Cabaret, and of course Ms. Logrea's Nutcracker are all so amazing! It makes me laugh when I read the filtered reviews for Logrea and how interesting...Everyone rated five stars...Of course that means its totally legitimate, I mean come on! NOT I watched a family member slowly lose confidence after attending this 'academy' and I could not urge more, to really pay attention to your child's behavior if they are a part of this school. The place is freezing, and on one of the worse street corners, accompanied by maybe TWO parking spots. The others are clearly and boldly marked for other businesses, or the Logreas themselves; and otherwise they will tow you. I witnessed many younger children just sitting around while some select few were given the most attention inside; the cramped inside space it was as well. If you were not 98 pounds and the lightest on your feet, forget having a chance. Logrea is queen at playing favorites. I applaud talent, but come on, recognize the other talent around you!!! Some girls were not allowed to graduate to point, one of the most rewarding and exciting times a young dancer can experience, when they are ready; unless you are of course, Too Fat. And by standards of fat, they mean an 8 yr old weighing 62 pounds and at a decent height. I know you need to have 'strong ankles' but it was often ironic that the girls that didn't graduate were the ones that weren't shelling out the $$$$ for 4-5 classes a week. To start the body consciousness, and loss of self esteem at such a young age is deplorable. I'm not saying that Logrea doesn't turn out great dancers, because they can and do; but it is rare when they teach and show all their students with respect. Logrea has always been a highly structured program that prepares dancers and provides meaningful opportunities for performance notably at the county center's nutcracker that has strong attendance. It is a very challenging environment however for everyone except the chosen few who are thin enough, willing to pay hundreds extra per week/month for private lessons beyond the 10 classes per week they are enrolled in, and have enough of a mean girl demeanor to survive the ultra competitive environment the Logrea's foster. Despite all the talk, they do not tolerate anything but underweight straight figures - even as young as 7 years old. They put the kids they like in the first row of classes and only focus on them while the rest of the class just goes through the motions. They look the other way as the girls bully and demean each other. Think twice before enrolling or keeping your child here. It is an unhealthy environment both physically and mentally and I only have this perspective after seeing strong girls deteriorate to emotional messes over the years of this treatment. They endure because they are taught that they "might" get a good role if they just try hard enough, and that the teachers' behavior is the norm in the ballet world. It may sound like sour grapes since it's clear my daughter wasn't one of the chosen few, but the fact is that only 5-ish girls will be and you have to judge the program based on how they treat the hundreds of others that are enrolled here. Do they feel good when they leave for the day, do they make good friends. Are they inspired to try harder, to be healthy and strong, to enjoy dance? Try another school - you will see your child thrive and will still get great training. read more

I highly recommend Logrea!!! Our daughter will be starting her 2nd year there this fall with Ms Vivian who taught her Elementary 1 class (age 4, preK) and will be doing the same for (age 5, K). At this young level, it is warm and welcoming into the dance studio, the children get to bring something to class with them to show. I like the structure they provide for learning at this age, without the kids really feeling pressure. What I like most is that their performance they do at year end, is just for the pre-ballet, Elem 1 and 2 kids on their own with out the pressure of the older kids and them having to sit through other performances (and that is kind of a bonus for parents). Ms. Vivian is wonderful as are the older ballet students who assist her; they give the young ones someone to look up to who once sat right where they were. Yes, the parking can be very challenging there. So I get there early if possible. The waiting room for parents is small, so it can get hot in there, and cramped. But every parent seems to survive. You can watch your little one on the remote tv in there. The staff for registration has always been great. And when my daughter missed a few weeks due to illness the school and her teacher reached out to us by email and a call. If folks give a lesser review because of waiting room and parking conditions for themselves, I find that unfair. What I base my review on is that my child is learning a skill, is gaining fitness, and bounds out of the dance studio happy and ebullient. And even for the kids (preschoolers) that might have a hard time in class or scared or miss a parent, one or the older students attend to them with kindness. read more

I'm a little shocked that five and a half years after my initial review, Logrea feels the need to post a comment directing readers away from my thoughtful, positive yet constructive review. Yes, there are several other reviews that are overwhelmingly positive, and most are probably fake, which is why they are filtered. I haven't been to Logrea since my initial review, so my feedback may no longer be valid. But note the comments I made in my review, go visit, and judge for yourself. If it's still ice cold in the classrooms, there's nowhere to change, and the stairwells flood when it rains, do ask the management why they haven't addressed these things, since clearly they've known about it for (at least) almost six years. I'm dropping a star from my initial rating just based on their comment. read more

Our experience at Logrea Dance is over. My child took classes there for more than 13 years. I still will say it was a challenging disciplined program from which many children can benefit. As for my child she is fit and healthy in mind as well as body thanks to several dedicated instructors who are no longer working there. HOWEVER, there is an undeniable culture of bias and favoritism from administration. The teaching staff was top notch, and the training too was excellent DESPITE SOME IN POWER. I CAN EXPRESS THIS NOW, but because our experiences were not entirely positive and I will admit that because of this my child was able to develope admirably her sense of empathy and kindness through those experiences of joyful highs and disheartening sometimes unnecessary lows, that helped her deal with disappointments as well as triumphs in a gracious manor that would make any parent proud. But I must credit those skilled teachers who put forth an extra effort to be supportive. I can no longer recommend this dance academy as being an emotionally healthy place for a young dancer unless they have great tallent, are willing to pay extra for private lessons, fit a very rigid body type, AND/OR have a support system extraordinary. There are immense benefits to ballet as a discipline and I will say that my child reaped those benefits after leaving and going off to college. But they had EVERYTHING to do with teachers who cared, took the time to build up rather than tear down, help and encourage. Sadly, I recently discover and know of none still there. Also, recently my child was asked to help with some endeavors to hire new instructors apparently to replace those who left and as she was unavailable I informed the academy of this. I then received an email response saying how sad she couldn't help because the owner thought so highly of her. Well this was news to me as that had not been our experience. I responded thus - Really? I'm sure there are plenty of girls regarded even more highly that can help out.- I thought this a reasonable response. HOWEVER, I received a snarky email, that I still have that said, "I DON'T NEED YOUR IMMATURE OPINIONS!" So, be forewarned. It all depends on what you're willing to put up with. read more

We have been attending Logrea for 4 years and have 2 children in their programs. We have been very pleased with the quality of their teachers, the effectiveness and professionalism of all their staff. Are parking spots tight, could the facilities use an upgrade, yes. Though I'm not sure that I would select a school primarily on those merits. I'd rather spend that money on good teachers, a sound program and solid productions. We appreciate the school not rushing the smaller kids onto a big stage right away as well enforcing stricter rules on dress code and timeliness. The older girls are pretty awesome role models and our daughter is excited to be able to pursue an assistant teaching role and get more exposure to the older girls. We can only recommend the school and program. Not sure why Yelp shows limited opening hours. Look at Logrea's website to find the most current opening hours. It's 7 days a week and many times until 9:00 PM. read more

Apart from the quality of the instruction and the excellent (safe) floors, what sets Logrea Dance Academy apart are perhaps two things, One is the opportunity to dance with the Westchester Ballet Company, primarily in the annual performance of The Nutcracker in White Plains, and be part of a professional production with top guest dancers. Second is the sense of family and mutual support that grows over the years both with the faculty and with fellow dancers. One son still dances there - the other eventually gave up when the commitment to sports became the top priority, but the flexibility and strength gained through dance training at Logrea has proved invaluable to him as well. I'm a male dancer at Logrea Dance Academy and I'm shocked to see what parents are saying about Logrea. For some of the parents to say Miss Logrea does not care about the kids and only there money is crazy do you really think some one who does not like kids would spend so much time with us. Logrea is my home away from home. I'm graduating this year and im going to miss it so much from dancing in the Nutcracker to just taking classes. Mr. Logrea and Miss. I think Logrea Dance Academy will be one of the most important experiences of my daughter's life, and she is NOT on a professional track. She has had to work very hard to meet the standards required to be on pointe and perform in the Nutcracker. But she has learned valuable lessons in the process. - and now feels a tremendous sense of achievement that gives her confidence. This dance school puts its money into hiring great teachers, rather than into a sparkling facility. Having been to a school that looked beautiful but didn't have the quality of instruction, I only wish we had started at Logrea when my daughter was little. Logrea Dance Academy has been a gift for our family. A friend who is a professional dancer recommended it as being the "only real dance school in Westchester" and boy am I glad! My daughter came to Logrea 18 months ago after dancing at a local "dance' studio, where she learned next to nothing. With Logrea she has blossomed and is now in their conservatory program. I feel she is learning the tools necessary to be a professional dancer if that's where her passion leads her. Mr Logrea is such a gifted teacher and what impresses me the most is the respect he shows all the children, of all ages. The kids all adore him and it is a happy and yet disciplined environment. My son who's 7 started a few months ago because he could see how much fun it was. He loves it, even though he's the only boy in that class. If you're looking for a dance school which teaches real technique and not just preparing steps for a recital, this is definitely the place to go. read more

The young people of north-western Westchester County are incredibly lucky to have a local school the caliber of Logrea Dance Academy. Here is an institution where, even if a child is not destined for a professional career, she or he will be trained to appreciate and understand the value of precise, careful work, of teamwork, of mental focus, of positive thinking, and of taking great care of one's health. If the child does hope to be a professional dancer, the tools are all there. Every student gets a great deal of first-hand attention and well-considered advice from caring teachers with vast experience and expertise. It's a place where, in my - and my daughters' - many years of experience, one can also become a member of an extraordinarily supportive and close-knit community that embraces young and old, rich and poor, stunningly-talented and two-left-footed, alike. I'm mystified by Robin A's review, as I've never witnessed any of the "elitism," coldness or lack of enthusiasm she complains about. The school is as vibrant and professional, and its students (and directors and volunteers) are as impressive, poised, disciplined and charming as ever. Has Robin A ever been to a NYC ballet school? I would guess not. The lobby can get crowded, and the parking can be a challenge. In my experience, however, I've never seen a spacious, comfortable lobby at a ballet school, where every possible square foot is used for dancing. And dance schools with big glamorous parking lots just don't seem to last. The vast majority of the dancers and their parents seem to be willing to make it work at Logrea - and quite happily. read more

The Logrea Dance Academy is truly the best there is in Westchester County. They offer everything for the young dancer and also have things for adults too. Their core focus is Ballet, but there are tap, jazz, modern and even zumba classes available that are taught by some very impressive instructors. My child is a student there and could not be happier. Mrs. Logrea certainly takes dance seriously and goes to great lengths to ensure every child is truly ready to go on to the next level. She is very devoted and does focus on the older dance students who have a great deal of respect and admiration for her knowledge and ability, which is immense, to teach them ballet. I know my own child looks forward to the time when she will be one of her students. Mr. Logrea's dedication and expertise is also greatly admired by his students and again my own child enjoys the classes with him, especially the folk dancing. I agree with the previous post. The facility is a dump! The co-owner and director , Mrs. Logrea, obviously could care less about the student and their family's experience and made no effort throughout the entire school year to ever say hello much less strike up a conversation as she pased through the lobby to her office each week. The lobby is so crowded that parents often have to stand, the parking is TERRIBLE with one spot reserved for Mrs. Logrea with an obnoxious sigh declaring her space. The bathrooms are reminiscent of a dirty gas station -- they even have the hot water control turned off. The school certainly produces fine dancers for those very few who have the ability and choose to make the commitment. For most of the kids (mine was age 6) they could care less and, until you reach that point, the owners have absolutely no interest in you. I will not be going back to Logrea. The thought of suffering through another year there is just not worth it. We are looking for other schools. read more

I am an older dancer at Logrea. We do not have any flooding anymore. The studios are cold, but after a class, you are sweating! I get the feeling that Ms. Logrea doesn't really care about me, but i can tell she cares more about me now than a couple years ago. Mr. Logrea teaches all my ballet classes, and although it is repetitive, I can tell i am learning and growing. They do care about not pushing you too hard on pointe, and they really do care about NOT breaking your ankles. I went on pointe a year later than most girls my age, but i can tell that my ankles are not the strongest, and that the extra year on flat helped me. My pointe teacher really helps me and watches my progress. I just started modern this year, but I am really enjoying it. Our Teacher really takes time to sort out something if someone doesn't understand. I have been taking jazz for a few years now, and I really enjoy it. My teacher knows that sometimes we just can't make it. Although there is a lot of gossip at logrea (especially around nutcracker!) i still have great friends that i would not know if I didn't go to Logrea. To say that the Logreas DISCOURAGE older girls to talk to the younger girls do not know the company. We are one big family, and the Logreas have a tradition of doing "buddies" where younger girls can always go and talk to the older girls for guidance. There is favoritism, but that's just how life is. read more
