I was an impoverished student in Paddington for about a year and I learnt a lot about being thrifty in this time. Imbedded into my routine was procuring my many beauty products from Paddington Central Pharmacy. I don't think this pharmacy actually advertises itself as a "discount" pharmacy but there is still many savings to be had! Namely on basic things like shampoo, conditions and toothpaste! On a good day one would be able to purchase a large amount of toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner for around $10. This would generally last me about a month. Not a bad deal to stay clean and reasonably attractive for approximately $10 a month! I also went through a health kick and picked up some relatively cheap vitamins but they didn't send me into a bargain bonanza! So in short, this review is for all those poor students out there who need a cheap solution to staying clean!

Aprart from that the bargains, Paddington Central Pharmacy is a good place to pick up your prescriptions and general medical products. They have a small range in make-up too, so if you are in dire need of mascara- it's good for that too. Overall, not a bad pharmacy at all. Before they became a chain chemist it was much more personal but i guess that happens with corporatisation. Still they do have good selection of products and the pharmacists are very knowledgeable. Average experience. Certainly better than the discount chains but i miss the friendly corner sole operated chemist. It seems the world is heading to chain shops with very few small operators left. Little did I know that what looks like a basic chemist from the outside is actually so much more. The space is far bigger than it appears on the outside and it is stocked full of pleasant surprises including a small range of pet goods and a decent stock of health foods. Plus bonus points to the staff who spent at least 15 minutes searching out the back for a particular product I wanted but couldn't see on shelf. Discount Drug Store, you've just earned yourself a spot in my regular chemist rotation!

The small entrance is deceptive and the blocked out windows do not let on how big this pharmacy actually is. The prices really are good and the guy serving was extremely helpful at pointing out where on the shelves the certain item I was looking for lived. The good thing about this pharmacy is not only the prices but the fact that it is always fairly quiet, meaning you get the utmost attention from the staff and are served very quickly. The pharmacists behind the counter have dealt with every situation you can think of many many times and suffice to say you are in great hands. I once injured my ankle hoofing it to a lecture theatre and someone from the Campus Pharmacy came out to help me there and proceeded to treat my leg. That was impressive. They are great, stock a little bit of everything... even sun hats. It can be a little bit of a squeeze in there at times when there are many students trying to get medicines and whatnot, but they are awesome.

They are pretty nice inside and give good advice, especially around the snotty sick exam periods. The Pharmacy is situated in the student Union Complex, next to the Uni Disc book and music store and across from the Uni Salon. There is just something comforting knowing there is a pharmacy nearby for any unexpected emergency needs, whether it is an umbrella, a new bag, thongs, hats, lady products or condoms.
