I didn't know exactly what to expect, but hypnotherapy isn't what I thought it would be. It's basically like a guided meditation that is specific to your issues. I was lucky enough to find Michelle online having never tried hypnotherapy before. On my first visit she was professional, warm, friendly, nonjudgemental and knowledgable. She explained how hypnotherapy works in a simple and easy to understand way and made me feel confident in her abilities. Michelle is amazing. I can't recommend her more highly than I do. Hypnotherapy is a really valuable tool for accessing and healing our minds. Michelle understands the complexity of the conscious-subconscious dynamic of the mind, and she has a great skill for opening us up to let our minds heal themselves. Her personality and demeanor are soothing, calming, and accepting. When my first child was born, I had a bad experience with labor and delivery. Although my son was soon healthy and we were able to take him home a few days after his birth, the experience I had left me anxious and traumatized, despite the fact that "everything turned out fine in the end." I suffered from post-partum anxiety, which I eventually worked on in therapy once I realized that's what was going on. But I also had panic attacks that could be triggered by certain conditions, and which persisted even after I started addressing my PPA through therapy. When I became pregnant with my second child, being pregnant again and anticipating the birth (in a positive way) also caused me to deal with a lot of fears and trauma that had been left unresolved from the first time. There were periods when I was having panic attacks nightly, and they were so terrifying that my fear of another attack was becoming its own trigger. On one hand I loved my life and growing family, and was excited and happy. On the other I was terrified and haunted by these panic attacks. There were horrible. I was desperate. My doctor mentioned hypnotherapy, but at 30-some weeks, I thought, "how will I find someone, get scheduled, and get in in time to get anything done?" But my attacks were so frightening, I started reaching out. I'd gotten doulas to help me through the pregnancy, and they immediately recommended Michelle. Her schedule was packed but, upon hearing about my situation, she worked me in to every opening and cancellation. I will never forget our first phone call, when we discussed our plan and she mentioned that many people see significantly less panic attacks after 6 sessions, and some stop getting them altogether. I was floored. I choked up. I didn't know I could be completely rid of this beast on my back. I had been feeling like they were something I'd have to live with for so long. We scheduled an aggressive plan - twice a week for the few remaining weeks until my due date. I saw changes in myself immediately, and my full-blown panic attacks came with less and less force. There is something about Michelle's listening that is profound. She is with you in a way most are not. Hypnosis was truly easeful and freeing. I have been diagnosed with PTSD and nothing I tried worked. I wasn't even living life, I was existing, just barely coping. So I started looking for alternative methods of dealing with my issues. Two things stood out to me online. One was float therapy and one was hypnotherapy. Michelle is wonderful. I was very very skeptical at first, but I was hit with a absolutely horrible season of depression and anxiety. I had low grade depression before but nothing near as bad as this. I was desperate. I went to the Doctor, got on medicine, took CBT classes, got therapy, managed my diet, took vitamins and was looking for more because my symptoms were still incredibly bad. I did some research on helping anxiety on the Internet, and found out that hypnotherapy has been well documented to help with coping with anxiety. That surprised me. She did a consultation and fit me in that day because my anxiety was so high. I felt like I was spinning in a hurricane and she used hypnotherapy (Or what I like to call, guided meditation) to calm me down. She helped me learn coping techniques that I still use. The process is: You sit in a reclining chair and she talks to you. She guides you through several visualization exercises and you feel yourself sinking in. I was a bit scared of "going under". Turns out, it's just a really heavy feeling in your body where you feel very relaxed. I remembered everything from our sessions. I was never uncomfortable. Her voice is very soothing to listen to. My improvement was huge in three months and my anxiety and depression are now in control. Praise God! I feel SO much better. I am 60 years old and have had a terrible sleep disorder that comes with fibromyalgia for 27 years. I couldn't fall asleep until 2am-5am, slept fitfully for a few hours and woke exhausted. Every day. I was truly skeptical about hypnotherapy but I decided to give it a try. Neal put me at ease straight away. This was partially due to his kind, calm, respectful, and patient demeanor. However, Neal mostly put me at ease because of his obvious intellect. I came in wanting to work on softening into situations and not needing to feel like I had to be so in control. He helped me to develop wonderful stress reducing visualizations, taught me how to affect my dreams, how to talk to people I love but can't communicate with, and make major decisions in my life during a particularly difficult time. I have been told that I seem bolder since starting hypnotherapy. I have had a few amazingly liberating dreams. I am smiling more sincerely and openly in photographs. My sessions with Michelle were great. At first, I didn't know what to expect. We began with a short consultation to see what I wanted to get out of our sessions. She then incorporated my goals into our sessions. I was a bit nervous and shy to start off with, but she has a calm, soothing presence and voice that help to put me at ease right away. I can't recommend this enough! Neal really helped me to see my own thoughts in a new perspective! I went in originally to get healthier habits around diet and exercise, but I got so much more than that! Neal's thoughtful line of questioning and the clarity I got during hypnosis led me to figure out pretty quickly that the roots of my particular problem were more about decisiveness and confidence in general. In hypnosis, I discovered that I don't need to try so hard to get everything right, and this goofy way of being me is just fine - in fact, better than fine! To be clear, I'm not perfect (and anyway, what on earth does that mean?), but I don't really care! I'm having too much fun! And I've been going out dancing, cooking, cutting up vegetables all the time, swimming, hiking, having really vivid dreams, going out and being a lot more social, and even convincing my friends and family to come with me to the gym (so it's helping them too).
