NOT recommended for colour here. Worst experience of my life. I get my hair done every few months, and it is the only experience I have ever had to hold back tears at any appointment - it was that bad. Over a year later, hair colourists at other salons still make comments about the horrible dye job I have growing out. Apparently, the artist here also used metallic dye when she gave me the blotchy, botched balayage job, which is a no-no for hair, has ruined it, and has made it hard to correct the color. Not only was the hair colouring a horrible experience, but when I arrived, I very clearly remember waiting 15 minutes for the receptionist to acknowledge me while she was on the phone. Why do I remember this? Because the stylist came out finally after I was checked in and scolded me for being late! Wow, really? Then the appointment happened. It lasted HOURS because the colourist messed up and had to try again. She was ROUGH and got colour all over my face. This is when I was seriously trying not to cry. She never got it right. After the appointment, the stylist who messed up the colour offered a second appointment to fix it in the future. No thanks - I'm not reliving that experience! Icing on the cake is how over a year later stylists continue to comment on the horrible job done on the end of my hair, finally growing out. I'm thankful that it's almost all gone now and that I've found some better stylists to return to. Ultimately, I thought I was making an educated decision coming here with all the great reviews, but years later I still look back at this as one traumatic experience. Not recommended. read more

In order to be objective and since I was very excited after my haircut, I waited about one month to write this review. I would give a 3 1/2 stars for the welcoming service. The receptionist was nice, but not more than that. I waited about 15 minutes and she didn't even offer me a glass of water --in other places they do as soon as you give your name. Then I met Véronique, it was my first time at Local B, I was there because I wanted a new hair style. I trusted her and I have to say she is very sensitive. She looked at me, she played with my hair and then she started to cut. The result... magnificent. Also she is very nice and professional. I have curly hair, so she took the time to show me how to wear it natural, half dried and straightened. After one month, I am still very happy with her job and I will go back soon. read more

After getting my roots done in November with the grey hairs still showing, and then recently a dark strip that didn't blend with the rest of the hair, the salon said that i was the one with the problem and to not come back. Unbelievable how disgusting these people are. Subpar colorists and stylists and overpriced at that. 1 star is too high of a rating. read more

It was a 14km round-trip walk from my hotel but I'm so glad I sucked it up and schlepped myself over there! Vanee listened to my needs (cute, easy, no bangs, maintenance-free) and came up with a plan. I've never professionally colored my drab brown hair but got such a good vibe from Vanee and the salon in general that I agreed to let her work her magic. She picked a professional, grown-up, sassy color that I love! And since my eyebrow was completely out of control the resident make up artiste (whose name I don't know) painstakingly plucked the thing into the two most shapely creatures I've ever worn! Lovely job! (Particularly since she squeezed me in with no advance notice while my color was setting.) I'm very satisfied with my impromptu decision to hoof it across town to local B for a day of beautification! Next time I get another long Montreal overnight I'll be back for a tune-up! read more

I've been looking for an eyebrow shaper for years and found Pascale at Local B. I've been working with her to grow and shape my brows for months and she does a great job with a great attitude. She is definitely an expert at what she does and shapes them to be attractive for your face. Would recommend her to anyone looking to have beautiful shaped brows. read more

It is my first time getting a haircut at a salon. It was upscale more than I had imagined: appointments, nice sitting area with Wi-Fi, coffee and tea is offered during the haircut. The reception was a little busy and hurried. Though my hairdresser Mathieu is a very chill person, easy to talk to, and gave an unrushed service. My haircut, including a wash, came down to just under $50 - but hey these guys are North American Hairstyling Award winners. read more

I visited local B to see my favourite colourist from Vancouver, Mimi. I called in to book an appointment, because booking online for a balayage wasn't an option, and everything was confirmed for my visit. My experience in the actual salon was very routine, and it was lovely to catch up with Mimi again. The colour I wound up with was close to what I had asked for, albeit slightly dark. Mimi did not apply the toner to my hair, and the result wasn't quite the natural fade I was anticipating, though she did reassure me that with time I would start to see more of a variation in colour. The reason I am ranking my experience so low is as a direct result of how dubiously the salon seems to go about the pricing of their services. Not once, while booking or throughout the visit, was I informed that a blow-dry was going to cost me $45.00. I am very, very willing to spend money on the maintenance of my hair, but a salon charging for a blow-dry post dye job- without being openly candid about that being customary- left me incredulous. I lived in London for a time, and now reside in Vancouver, and even having visited actual blow-bars never paid a person $45.00 to blow-dry my hair. The blow-dry took a matter of minutes. To charge a customer $45.00 when they've already spent over a hundred dollars on a colour is unjustifiable. Hair needs to be dried in order for a customer to see the result of the colour they've just paid for. It's not an extra service. If local B believes that it is justifiable, for whatever reason, clientele should be informed upfront. That $45.00 alone has guaranteed that I will not return, or recommend this salon to anyone else. While I'd recommend Mimi and her services, I would feel compelled to inform my friends based here in Montreal that this salon will charge you in an unscrupulous way for things other high-end salons consider a simple part of your visit. I also wound up having a $20.00 treatment that I wasn't aware would cost me $20.00, and was informed that my balayage was $160.00 when the website posts $120.00+. The treatment was $20.00 on top of that $160.00, so what's the +? I have short, fine hair. I paid, despite my incredulity, because I felt perhaps I could have read the fine-print on the website better, but looking now, nothing on the website informs you that you'll be paying $45.00 for a blow-dry. I didn't opt for a set and style or book one. I booked one treatment and wound up being charged for two other "options" without my knowledge or consent. I left my appointment feeling as though I'd been taken advantage of, and that is not the way you want to leave an experience that is meant to be luxurious. How a salon builds repeat clientele when this underhanded means of up-selling and adding-on is utilized is beyond me. It's such a shame because I would have returned, and would have recommended it, but the experience left a bad taste in my mouth and I'm left unimpressed by the customer service. There was no candor, and as a customer I don't appreciate that. I hope this feedback is helpful. I'm not making an effort to be unkind, but I've never had such a disappointing experience before. Focus on building happy, repeat clients. Not trying to milk the most that you possibly can out of each and every visit. That's not the way to run a successful, sustainable business. I got a haircut from Christy at Local B about a month ago. Christy was so friendly and chill. I don't know much about hair at all but she immediately understood what I was trying to ask for, despite my giving her very little to go on. I ended up with a great haircut. I'll definitely be back. The actual salon has a cleanly stylish vibe without being intimidating or too cool for school. Despite the chic staff and atmosphere, the place still feels warm and welcoming. You may be lucky enough to meet the so-cute-it-hurts pomeranian Marni when you visit. One small friendly suggestion for Local B, that I personally think would make the experience even better: it would be really cool if there were a different way to tip your staff. Maybe it's just me, but it feels a bit awkward handing cash directly to the hairdresser at the end. read more

Great atmosphere. Very clean. I got a very nice haircut for $60. Laurie gave me the hairstyle that I want, and more. I like that they give treats during service: chocolate and peanuts; and orange slices (which can be awkward to eat while getting a haircut). The only reason why I didn't give 5 out of 5 is because I never got the glass of water I was offered twice for. read more

I recently moved from Vancouver and was worried about finding a new stylist. After asking a few friends, someone recommended me to Local B. I made an appointment with Antoine. The salon itself is white and modern, in a cute stretch of Outremont. Not too far from the Metro, maybe a 7 minute walk. While I waited, they brought me tea, fruit, nuts and chocolate! I'm all about the details and I thought that was very thoughtful. Antoine was super friendly and gave me a great cut - I have really long and thick Asian hair. The atmosphere was nice, my stylist did a good job and I thought the pricing was very fair. read more

I love this place, mostly because of Antoine (though I am also a fan of the white decor, the complimentary snacks and the sometimes-hilarious people watching). After years of surfing through Montreal salons and ending up with just okay hair (too blonde, too nice, too choppy, etc), I stumbled across Antoine and for the first time in my life have GOOD hair. Maybe it's just that I love the (Parisian girl in the street) cut & colour he did, but he may also actually be a style genius. He can never move back to France! This place is great! As soon as I got there I was greeted and seated, then offered a beverage. I got a delicious fancy coffee. The hairdresser (named Alice) was friendly and did wonders on my hair. It was a bit pricey, $65 for a cut but I have skimped on quality before to save a buck and it did not go well. It was well worth the money I spent. Never again ! Completely ruined my hair, not once but twice !! Even though I had shown pictures of the color I wanted, I ended up with an orange ombre. It apparently was due to a bad reaction, so I had to come back. My hair was bleached again and turned out urine yellow. The owner is super rude. Went back to my former hairdresse who fixed it all. I was recommended to get my hair cut here by a friend and it was a very unpleasant experience. I have very thick, curly hair and I went in wanting to cut off all my dead ends and get a blow-dry. I was told that I hadn't booked enough time for a blow-dry when I had clearly explained myself on the phone three days earlier. Louis was unapproachable and hardly listened to what I wanted. He kept asking me why I wanted to straighten my hair as if he didn't want to have to do it. I left with a bad hair cut which looks even worse when it's curly. He doesn't know how to properly cut curly hair at all. Also, I was told on the phone that my appointment (cut and blow-dry for thick curly hair) would be $70 plus tax but when I went to pay it was $80 plus tax because he "recently became a master" (I called 3 days prior so it was obviously an unplanned promotion) Will not go back. read more

I was in bad need of a root job when I looked up some places that were close by. This place popped up and while there were no reviews, I checked out the prices and thought they were reasonable. As well, I wanted to try somewhere new so I thought, "why not?". It was the dead of winter so I cabbed it instead of risking hypothermia. When I got there, I discovered it is on this cute stretch of Outremont with clothing and other stores. I go downstairs and am quickly installed in a chair with my assigned stylist. He is nice and does a quick job of the touch up that I so badly needed. However, he failed to put any vaseline on my hairline so I'm stained with hair dye when I finish drying my hair. It's a small point but for $75 (including tip) for a 15 minute job, he should have either put the vaseline on or followed up after I had dried my hair. Fortunately, the manager (or owner?) noticed me trying to rub off the dye and asked the makeup person to clean the hair dye off with some makeup remover. Overall, the service was lacking but he was quick and not too chatty (I like to read while doing my "maintenance"). This place accepts cards. There is street parking. read more

I had my appointment at Local B about 6 months ago. I wanted to have bangs but my hairdresser told me I couldn't. This seemed odd because I've had bangs in the past and felt confident it was a good choice for me. She said that my hair was very dry and that she would suggest products to help with this at the end of my appointment. She gave me a haircut that I was really unhappy with, which I expressed during and at the end of our session. She left me at my chair without suggesting any products. I felt she abandoned me and took my opinion of my haircut personally. I tipped her 10$ and didn't care to write a review because I felt my mood may have reflected my experience. I have since had an excellent haircut with bangs at a different salon which made me realize that my experience with this person was actually bad, and worth reviewing. I'm not sure what the other hairdressers are like at this salon but I will never revisit given my experience with that one person. read more

I had a great experience here today - I got a cut from Antoine, who listened to what I wanted, did great work, and was fun to chat with! The price was a bit higher than what I expected based on the website and Yelp reviews ($80 for wash, cut, and blow dry), but as I'm really happy with my haircut, it was worth it.
