I attended the inaugural Lobster Clam Jam food festival in Toronto this past Saturday at Cabana Pool Bar. The festival originated in Montreal in 2013 with the idea of showcasing great food produced by home grown talent. The festival is centred around seafood with a focus on lobster related food dishes.
Admission was $25 plus taxes and fees online. Children 12 and under were free. The currency used at the event was a CLAM which essentially was a silver token and each token was valued at $3 tax included. Dishes at the event ranged anywhere from 2- 4 tokens.
Venue: Cabana Pool Bar is a great venue for the event, right by Toronto's waterfront which gave it a relaxing chill vibe. Ample parking around the venue and places to sit and enjoy your food. The weather was chilly for Victoria Day long weekend but the pool was open if you wanted to go for a swim.
Food: The food wasn't cheap but it was reasonably priced for what was available. The quality was pretty good and the lobster provided by the vendors were fresh. Alcoholic beverages were 2 tokens.
Full lobster (7 tokens) by the Lobster Snack Shop: Really fresh, good size lobster that was nice and sweet.
Lobster ravioli (3 tokens) by the Food Dudes: Probably the best lobster dish we tasted at the festival, the portion was really small but it was perfectly seasoned and cooked and they added these crispy lentil balls that gave the dish a great texture.
Lobster poutine (2 tokens) by L'Acadien Su La Go: Pretty good dish, great chunks of fresh lobster, great sauce and fries but the dish was a little cold.
Salmon poke (3 tokens) by Cali Love: Pretty good dish, salmon was fresh, rice was cooked properly and fresh ingredients.
Lobster roll (3 tokens) by Blowfish: Least favorite dish at the event, not much lobster, barely dressed and very mediocre.
Entertainment: DJ Eddie Lewis played from 12-6 pm and DJ Chris Laroque from 6-9 pm. I left before 6 pm, so I only heard DJ Eddie Lewis spin. The music wasn't too good for me and the music definitely was geared towards an older crowd since it was a family oriented event.
Overall, it was a pretty decent event for it's inaugural year in Toronto. The event wasn't packed but there was a decent turnout at the event. The food was pretty good and reasonably priced for the quality and for seafood in general. The event was definitely geared towards families as advertised but there was a good mix of couples, friends hanging out, foodies and families. read more
