Caldey Island…read more If you are visiting Tenby in Penbrokhire over the summer holidays then a visit to the island of Caldy is a must. Caldey was a monastic island from the early Christian period to the dissolution of the Monasteries ( 1509-47 ) The present Monastery of Cistercians was founded in 1927 To reach the island which is about 2 miles off the coast there is a fleet of boats that sail from Tenby harbour from Easter to October Tickets can be obtained from the Caldey Island Kiosk at the top of Tenby Harbour The boats run about every 20 minutes from 10am to 5.00 every day except Sundays so there is little waiting involved. The crossing time is about 20 minutes . The monks in addition to other things, like prayer, manage to bake shortbread in the monastery ovens, produce hand made chocolate and perhaps he most interesting activity is their production of perfumes. Some of the perfumes are produced from an extract of gorse flowers. I was always under the impression that gorse flowers had no perfume. Perhaps my sense of smell is not so good ! Yes you can take the dog but it must be kept on a lead at all times. The island itself has some fine walks along good footpaths. It is well worth a visit if you are in or near Tenby.

Kind of wished I didn't waste time coming here, there's barely nothing to do. I don't know why people hype it up. You can walk along the low tide water, go on the pier, a couple of cafes and the smallest arcade in the world. The knitted figures in the pictures were the highlight of the visit. Catherine Zeta Jones and Michael Douglas apparently have a house here. I guess it's a good location to get away from the press. A very sleepy town.

Chained down and totally fed up, the Mumbles Pier Ape Lady epitomises the sad state of this…read morewonderful structure, lying flat on her back, she's completely out of it - have a look at her photo for yourself. What a contrast! The actual pier itself, starts off OK, fantastic setting, poking its way out into Swansea Bay, traditional wood and iron structure. It then gets really delapidated - fenced off end bit with rotten floor boards up, great gaps with stomach churning drop to sea below. A woman was whimpering as she gingerly made her way back to the entrance to the pier - she had suddenly become spooked by the sight of the water 40 feet below through the cracks in the wooden flooring and anyone bouncing along (like me, not realising!) set her off again. Now where are you going to get thrills like this for 50p? This has to be at least a 4 star attraction, a must see, if nothing but to view it in this contrasting state - with luck so you can recall what it was like before the promised renovation. The location is excellent - panoramic views of Swansea Bay right across to Port Talbot and beyond over the waters. The little lifeboat station is a quaint beacon of brightness and the iron girders make a complex crisscross pattern in the setting sun. And if fishing takes your bait, then pay £3 a rod and cast away to your hearts content at the end of the pier. Highly recommended.

Enjoy the silence, where you can hear only birds and sheep and cows on the hills around. If you are adventurous, bring a torch and go explore the natural caves under the castle - but be careful, it's really slippery down there!

It's pretty natural rounded shape, flanked on either side by long, sandy beaches, along with the plethora of boats and small vessels along the jetty, makes this a great place for an evening stroll. Spend the day on either North or South beach then come and wander around here in the evening, looking at the pretty coloured fishermans cottages and watching the world go by. A visit to Tenby isn't complete without a walk around the harbour, finished off by a dinner of local fish in one of the lovely local restaurants.

On the side of a cliff path overlooking Manorbier Beach, King's Quoit is in one of the most…read morebeautiful positions for a Neolithic tomb and also one of the easiest to find! It isn't far from the beach up the cliff path on the left of the beach (south-east side) but the path is steep and rocky in places so care should be taken. There are two small stones which support a massive capstone measuring 15ft by 9ft. At the back corner there is another stone which is low and disappearing into the side of the grassy cliff. The height inside is 2ft 6inches - the chamber being partly underground. There are also other interesting stones of the same kind which line part of the cliff face (which itself is mostly red sandstone). Really worth a visit if you're at all interested in ancient history or just want to soak up the very special and mysterious atmosphere of this incredible tomb.

Lovely for walks and close to the village and the railway station. There is a car park very near to the beach. In the village there are toilets, pubs, cafes and few shops. Great for walking but I don't know what the quality of the water is like for swimming. Not far from Kidwelly on one side and Carmarthen on the other.
